I am disappointed with my experience, as this is now the second time my reservation has been canceled just 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances can happen, last minute cancellations like this are highly inconvenient and disruptive. What makes this situation frustrating is the strict enforcement of the company's cancellation policy, which charges customers a 50% fee when canceling less than 24hrs in advance. It is only fair that the same level of accountability be upheld on both sides. Customers are expected to respect the policy, and in return, the business should demonstrate the same consideration and reliability. Not be compensated with a $5 discount. When if I had canceled the appointment would have been charged $30. Experiencing this issue more than once concerns me about their consistency and professionalism. I hope improvements are made to better manage scheduling or compensation. read more

I am beyond devastated. Worst experience ever. From start to finish. I don't know where to begin. This was my second time back at Sugar and Glow in Downey after many years of having a bad first experience. The few times I've been sugared here have been the most painful experiences. I've been getting sugared ( Brazilians) to be specific FOR YEARS so im no newby to the pain. I didn't decide to leave a review of my experience up until now because at the least, on my first experience I received exceptional customer service. Today just left me feeling really devastated. The customer service with Sugarist Kathy was shocking. I don't understand how someone in this type of field could be so unwelcoming and careless. It felt like she did not want to be there. She did not bother to introduce herself kindly or interact with me in any kind of way. She seemed very annoyed. She didn't care to make me feel welcomed or comfortable in such an intimate service. During the service I expressed to her that she was going too fast for me as I was in extreme pain from the way she was applying the sugar on my skin to the yanking of the hair. She stated that it was because I was on my cycle and because my hair was extremely long, now I understand it was long but like I said im not a newby to the pain of a Brazilian. She could've responded in a more understanding way. It just was not a pleasant experience for me from the moment she came out to get me from the lobby because of the customer service. I don't know if I got her on a bad day, but I wouldn't want any girl to experience the treatment that I did today. Sugar and Glow I hope you reiterate to your staff how important it is to make clients feel welcomed and comfortable, and to simply be kind and friendly, basic human decency. Extremely disappointed with their service and booking. I understand that they have a card on file policy to guard against no shows, but their inflexibility demonstrates that they do not care about the customer. I explained to them that I could not provide a physical card for their file as I was waiting for my physical card to arrive in the mail but that I would be happy to pay in advance so that there would be not be any no show concerns. I offered to pay in person, via Apple Pay, Zelle, Venmo, square, with banking information, other online payment options, and still they declined to book me because the required a card on file to guard against no shows. Given the fact that I offered to pay in advance, their policy position doesn't hold and their inflexibility to work with the customer to complete a booking simply doesn't make sense. read more

Sugar & Glow wasn't hard to find and parking was a breeze. Booking online was simple. I got the Brazilian + Hydrojelly Mask because I knew I'd need a little TLC after getting sugared. I used to get sugared regularly years ago so I kind of forgot what to expect. Darlene walked me through it and made the experience tolerable as possible. I'm not sure if I've just gotten more sensitive through the years or if I blocked out how painful it used to be but she kept me comfortable as possible. Darlene let me take as many breaks as I needed. She's a sweetheart, I'd definitely recommend her to anybody getting a Brazilian for the first or millionth time. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but my experience was honestly terrible from start to finish. I got a full sugar wax (stomach, back, neck, and face), and I ended up with a severe reaction that I believe came from poor technique. The waxer is NOT a new sugarist, so I expected someone experienced. Instead, she went over the same areas way too many times and didn't apply pressure after removing the strips, which left my skin extremely irritated. Within hours I developed painful, itchy bumps that turned into ingrowns and inflammation. Two weeks later, I'm still dealing with it. On top of that, the waxer repeatedly referred to me as "girl." I'm an adult woman, and being addressed that way during a professional service felt disrespectful and unprofessional. It added to the overall discomfort of the appointment. What made everything even worse was something that should NEVER happen in a professional environment: while waxing my face, she accidentally ripped out one of my diamond earrings. My earring ended up in the wax pot before anyone even realized. I had them cleaned afterwards, and now one of the diamonds has fallen out completely, and I have to pay to repair it. There was also zero post-wax aftercare advice. No instructions, no guidance, nothing to help the bumps and irritation I had developed. Overall, this appointment caused me pain, a bad skin reaction, and damage to my jewelry. Based on my experience, I absolutely cannot recommend this place. read more

This was my first time getting sugared, and I walked in feeling nervous and unsure of what to expect. The space itself is beautiful and clean, and the receptionist was incredibly kind and welcoming, which I really appreciated. My biggest critique is about the actual session with my technician. She did check in with me from time to time, but the overall energy felt very cold and unwelcoming. It didn't feel like she wanted to be there, and while I completely understand that this is a job, the lack of warmth made the entire experience feel incredibly isolating--especially for a first-timer. Being in that much pain, exposing such intimate parts of myself, and not feeling emotionally safe or supported was really overwhelming. I became more emotional simply because I felt alone in the process. As a business that specializes in such intimate services, I think it's important to create an environment where clients feel safe, supported, and at ease. One thing that really stuck with me was that I wasn't told I could take a break until midway through the session--by that point, I was visibly crying and upset. Up until then, I was just silently enduring a lot of pain, not knowing I had the option to pause. When she finally mentioned it, I was already emotionally exhausted and just wanted to get it over with. I wish that kind of option had been communicated upfront to make the experience feel a little less overwhelming. Another moment that rubbed me the wrong way--at one point during the service, a piece of sugar wax with hair on it fell onto my bag. She didn't acknowledge it or offer to help clean it, even though I saw it right away. I had to clean it off myself afterward, which just added to the feeling of detachment and lack of care. All that said, I've heard great things about Sugar & Glow and other technicians here. I'm open to giving it another try, but I would definitely book with someone else next time. Overall, I'd give this experience a 6/10 -- not terrible, but not one I'd recommend unless you're with a more supportive tech. read more

Overall I cannot complain about how smooth my skin is and it isn't as horribly red as when I usually wax. This time around I didn't bleed a whole lot either compared to when I waxed which was a great sign. My hair tends to grow fast so I will keep an eye on how long it takes this time to grow back. I was told hair takes a tad bit longer if you sugar wax. This was my first to doing sugar wax so I did not know what to expect. I will say the application process was insanely painful; however, I do have very sensitive skin&had long hair so that could be it. Sensory was another as I felt the drag of the sugar across my skin which sorta threw me off but it was warm instead of piping hot which was nice. I cannot recall the aesthetician who did my sugar wax but they were incredibly patient, kind and understanding. This made my experience a whole lot better even though it was painful. I was looking for a new eyebrow place, and this business caught my attention.... It is conveniently located on the corner of Downey ave and Firestone in Downey, literally blocks away from my place. I called and the receptionist answered right away, the appointment process was smooth and she answered all my concerns.... I arrived to my appointment, and Thony was the girl who cleaned out my eyebrows.... The whole process took about 20 minutes, since she took her time to make sure I liked my eyebrows.... And truly did!.... I voiced my concerns about waxing since waxing has left me with skin burns and she explained to me the difference between sugaring and waxing.... Sugaring is definitely a better healthier option and a better experience....
