They usually offer free parking, complimentary Wi-Fi, and breakfast, making them an excellent value for families on a road trip. They're often my go-to choice when traveling. This location, however, is a notch or two above the typical SpringHill Suites. The property is beautifully decorated with a wine country theme that fits the region perfectly. It features a very nice on-site restaurant, a cozy and charming winery-inspired patio, a pool, and conference facilities. The guest rooms also have one of the most unique layouts I've seen, with the toilet and shower in separate rooms, making it much more convenient for families getting ready at the same time. The overall atmosphere is warm and inviting, capturing the feel of California wine country without being overly lavish or expensive. I'd happily return for a staycation. Within about a 30-minute drive, you'll find plenty to do, including nearby beaches, downtown Atascadero with its beautifully restored City Hall and local restaurants, zip-lining adventures, and the stunning light displays at Sensorio in Paso Robles. It's a great home base for exploring the Central Coast with the family. While everything is clean and well maintained, there are a few minor signs of wear here and there. Nothing significant--just the kind of small maintenance items you'd expect from a well-used hotel. Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations. It offers an excellent balance of comfort, value, and amenities, and I'd gladly recommend it to families looking for a relaxing getaway or a comfortable stop while traveling along the Central Coast.

Flat like drinking MD 20/20 after a glass of Austin Hope Reserve Cabernet! I'd give it five stars if the pillows were remotely good. They were THAT bad to bring it down a star. This location had easy access to the highway and a was good home base for touring various wineries, breweries, and drinkeries in the area.

Our first night, we were woken out of a dead sleep by a very large and extremely loud group partying around the main fire pit. My husband politely asked them to quiet down, and unfortunately, instead of being respectful, several members of the group became confrontational and began threatening him. It appeared to be alcohol-induced behavior, and frankly, they should be embarrassed and ashamed of how they acted. The bigger concern was that there was no staff or security available at that hour to handle the situation. We ultimately had no choice but to call the non-emergency police number. Thankfully, the group eventually moved away from the area or went to bed. Management did refund us for that night, which we appreciated. We had another hiccup on our third day when we requested housekeeping. Someone came into the room and removed all of our used towels but apparently left without cleaning the room or replacing them. We didn't realize it until the following morning, when I got out of the shower and discovered we had no bath towels. Thankfully, we still had a few hand towels! We contacted the hotel and received towels, and management also offered us two complimentary cocktail tickets for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, when I went to pick up the drink tickets, the woman at the front desk had a surprisingly poor attitude. She told me, "We already gave you a late checkout, which is usually $50." The late checkout had absolutely nothing to do with the housekeeping issue or the cocktail tickets management had specifically offered us. I actually had to show her the text message from management before she reluctantly handed them over. Her attitude was disappointing and completely unnecessary. That being said, these situations did NOT ruin our stay. We genuinely loved the property, the atmosphere, and our time in Paso Robles, and we would happily stay at River Lodge again. A special shout-out to Michael, who was wonderful. He handled several of the issues we encountered with professionalism and kindness and went a long way toward making a few bad situations sit much better with us. One small suggestion for the rooms: we would definitely recommend adding at least a few drawers for clothing. For a multi-night stay, having some drawer space to unpack would be a welcome addition. River Lodge has so much going for it. With a little more consistency in housekeeping, overnight support/security, and front-desk hospitality, it could easily be a five-star experience for us. We look forward to giving it another try on a future Paso Robles trip.

Upon arrival, We walked in with another couple, and there wasn't anyone to greet us for about 5 to 10 minutes. The other couple texted, called without connection. There were no instructions on checking in either. So we were just confused together for a while until our host appeared. In addition, a dog was barking intermittently the whole night, for both nights that we stayed. So that detracted a little but overall a good experience and would recommend.

They had a decent spread - omelets, turkey sausage, hash browns, muffins, toast, yogurt, fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs, waffle station, etc. We had planned on going to Justin on Sunday, so I picked his hotel due to the proximity and my Hilton loyalty program. Used 60k points. Otherwise, I think that night was going for like $400 something. I am Diamond status, but wasn't upgraded or anything. Not sure if they would have upgraded me anyways, but we didn't check in with a person. Just thru the app and headed straight to the room with the digital key. Fine hotel if staying in Paso. Like we serious we pay 200 for a room and then for PARKING?!?! What kind of fraud is this. Absolutely ridiculous and greedy. Then we check in everything seems fine with check in, the manager Samantha seemed to have a bit of an attitude but could have been a long day. Anyways, we got our key and go up to our room. We open the door and BOOM!! All you can smell is bleach, it was piercing our noses and was making it hard to breathe. I'd recommend not staying here. While the word motel has certain perceptions attached to it, farmhouse is in actuality a bright, modern, and very aesthetically pleasing hotel with wonderful amenities. Prices can be average to above average depending on the time of the year, but we were able to use some credit card points to save even further. I'd say the stay is worth the baseline price, though. We got the standard king bed room. Each room has its own little patio, and a shared fire pit nearby. The room was spacious, clean, and the color palate is a dream. The bathroom amenities were standard. It's a room you wouldn't mind doing a staycation in. The service is wonderful. There is a front desk for easy check in, and the host was available via text if we needed anything ( at one point we needed more tissues and she brought it within minutes). They also offer free rosé upon arrival and free pastries and fruit/coffee during breakfast. The location is not exactly in downtown but it's a 15 min walk or a 5 min drive to the park/square. They don't allow "outside food" in common areas, whose definition was never clear to me- does it include the patios in front of the rooms? So I felt like a criminal bringing in takeout for dinner, but there is no food onnthe premises other than various kinds of overpriced chips and cookies. They don't let you bring outside wine in common areas, either, which might have something to do with licensing or might just be trying to make you buy their wine. So we waited until it was dark and no one was around to enjoy our outside wine on the patio. But we didn't get in trouble so maybe it was ok. They're also really promoting their bath products, for sale in their little gift shop, along with membership in their hotel chain for "rewards." The website says pet friendly and indeed, dogs are allowed in all rooms-- $50 each is a little steep for pet charge though. The website says there's something for pets in the room but there was none in our room, even though we booked in advance. I don't really care that much but if they say it, they should do it. There were also some rich women guests who looked at me like I was a homeless person or space alien, but other guests I met in the breakfast room were normal and friendly. But basically, it's a hotel oriented toward well-off "classy" wine tourists, and if you're not one of those, you might feel a little awkward here. (I did.) But it's a lovely, comfortable little room with charming grounds, probably nice for a romantic getaway without your dogs.

Martin who is the owner and purchased this vineyard in 2005, he built this winery literally from the ground up. He is a native from New Zealand and brought the Kiwi culture into this unique winery which is 1 of 300 wineries in Paso Robles. Julia was very helpful & kind, and an excellent wine pourer. I purchased the 2023 Kapua (white blend) for $36 and a short sleeved t shirt for $26. This being our first stop on our "Wine Line" tour was worth the views and ambience, great tasting and full of the Kia Ora spirit!

They do have a restaurant that opens at 7:00 AM, but when I arrived right at 7:00, it wasn't open. An employee mentioned the staff was running late--it was already 7:10 AM by then. Not a great look. Beautiful Hotel, but Not a Five-Star Experience…read more We have always loved the charm, location, and intimate atmosphere of Hotel Cheval, which is why we not only chose to stay here but also recommended it to friends. Unfortunately, the price point suggests a true five-star experience, while the condition and maintenance of the hotel simply do not. During our stay, we experienced plumbing issues as well as problems with roof leaks. More concerning is that friends we recommended the hotel to also experienced plumbing problems during their stay. Their solution? They were handed a plunger. At a hotel charging luxury rates, that is simply not an acceptable response to a guest experiencing a plumbing problem. Hotel Cheval has so much going for it--the location is wonderful, the property is charming, and we genuinely wanted to continue loving it. But luxury is more than atmosphere and a premium room rate. It also means excellent maintenance, attention to detail, and service that resolves problems without making them the guest's responsibility. At this price point, the infrastructure and level of service need to match the promise. Right now, they don't. I hope management invests in the property because Hotel Cheval could absolutely live up to the experience its pricing suggests.
