I reviewed Orchard Hill five years ago after our first visit and we just finished another amazing stay at this beautiful property. While Orchard Hill no longer serves breakfast, we were lucky enough that MaryAnn, who is a retired chef, would be our hostess during our time here. She invited us to join her for a delicious Blueberry Creme Brûlée French Toast breakfast with sausage and fresh fruit On morning. Yumm! She's an excellent chef and great company. The Garden View room is spacious and cozy all at once. The private balcony looking over the property is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee, or evening wine. We'll try not to let another five years go by before our next stay. read more

We all had a splendid time for a couple of days in the Carriage House at your wonderful English-style accommodations.  Our visit was a lovely reunion with our long-time friends, who we met by chance in the exact same Carriage House in your then-B&B about 10 or more years ago.  We had rented the room facing the main house, and on the same days they had rented the room facing the chickens.  We met in the common living area, had a bottle of wine together, ended up going out to dinner together, and have been constant friends ever since! We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Carriage House - everything that we could possibly need was provided - your usual careful attention to have everything there, including decaf coffee and sweetener, as well as the very welcome cake, the vases of flowers and other details were much appreciated, and the bottle of wine was really excellent.  And everything everywhere was notably clean - kudos to the cleaning crew! read more

This is simply an amazing place. The attention to detail in the interior decoration and outside gardens is impressive. Doug & Debbie are great people and go above and beyond for their guests. This is quite the little romantic getaway. Aside from the aesthetics of the place, Doug and Debbie are extremely knowledgeable of the area, wineries, and surrounding roads up/down the central California coast. Breakfast here is delicious - be sure to come hungry as you will definitely leave satisfied. Who can describe peace & quiet? This place was wonderful. It was greater than expected. See the attached photos of the place. Deb and Doug left the duties of the place to Elissa & Scott as the aforementioned were vacationing. The breakfast meals were gourmet planned with extra care as to our likes and dislikes. We had eggs from their own chicken-laying hens. Elissa made sure our stay was a pleasant one, offering great suggestions on what to do in and around the area. She even made dinner reservations for us at a couple of nice places. We visited the neighboring wineries, a walnut farm & an actual olive oil manufacturing farm during the day. There is no question that this bed & breakfast is worth a 5-star rating! You will leave feeling refreshed and well taken care of. read more

This last weekend, my wife and I went to Paso Robles for some much needed R & R. It was our 22nd anniversary. Thankfully, we stayed at Orchard Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast. We arrived later than expected and Doug and Debbie Thomsen, the wonderful owners, were willing to change their own dinner plans to accommodate our arrival. This was the first clue that we were in for a treat. We met Doug upon arrival and he showed us to the lovely Garden View Room. We opened the door to magnificent amenities: huge, plush king-size bed, lovely decor in browns and burgundies, walk-in closet, beautifully appointed bathroom with an outstanding shower. There is also a lovely adjacent bedroom with 2 single beds, perfect for older children, should one need it. We went to dinner at Artisan in downtown Paso Robles....AMAZING! (See my review on Yelp) In the morning, we went for a lovely walk along the fog-shrouded pathway around the gorgeous home. There are beautiful trees which were resplendent in autumnal beauty at our visit. There is a working vegetable garden, lovely rose gardens replete with adorable statuary and an antique birdhouse. After our walk, we were famished, so we walked into the common area in the main house where we met other guests and the wonderful Deb...the warmest, kindest host any one could hope to encounter. We joined other guests around the breakfast table......YUMMY!!! Warm, tender pumpkin-brioche french toast with homemade apple cider syrup, two types of delicious turkey sausage, my favorite being the spicy one with sage....OK, I'm a sucker for holiday flavors! Additionally there was delicious pomegranate-orange juice, fresh fruit and outstanding strong coffee. Deb is an accomplished home cook who pays attention to every detail. The very best part of the morning was our pow-wow with Doug and Deb where we just sat around the table or visited the lovely country farm kitchen for some inviting and relaxing repartee. Eventually we all planned our wine tasting excursion with their knowledgeable recommendations. It was a very leisurely and comforting morning where all were left to feel that Doug and Deb would have welcomed your visit for hours. This is a very rare gift that the Thomsen's (Doug and Deb) share with all who visit Orchard Hill Farms. Sorry for the late review... My husband and I stayed at this LOVELY inn back in August. I cannot say enough about our stay! WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT HERE! I highly recommend that you spend your special time there. I loved having privacy on the deck. We went wine tasting during the day and came back and enjoyed our wine with some nice cheeses we bought at the local store out on our lovely deck with a darling view of the other cottage. At the time noone had checked in so it was just us and so private! Even when the others checked in it was still private. If you want to impress your significant other...this is the perfect "getaway". Love the owners...they were very attentive and sweet. Enjoyed talking to them as well. Trust me...book this place...special touches everywhere...and just lovely! We literally felt we were in another country...not Paso! Thanks to the owners for providing a perfect getaway to make those sentimental memories! Hugs to you! Hope to see you again! (one more note...I enjoyed painting rocks Mandala style which is dot painting...very relaxing) Never done this before and I am not much of an artist...but I was able to have some peace and quiet there on the lovely deck...having the trees and plants blow in the breeze...along with the love birds chirping and playing in the lovely little fountain in the garden. Amazing bed and breakfast. The property was so beautiful and while just up the road from major wineries it felt like a true getaway. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and cheese plate. The room was beautiful and cozy, the bed was so comfortable and we took advantage of the common area in the evening, lit a fire and played cards. The owners and inn keepers were all wonderful and kind and very knowledgeable of places to visit. We stayed two nights and the breakfasts each morning were absolutely delicious. My wife and I have stayed at over 30 B&Bs in the past 20 years and we can honestly say that Orchard Hill Farm ranks among our favorites! The accommodations are comfortable and tastefully decorates. The endless vineyard and orchard views had us longing to extend our stay. It is the perfect balance of country privacy and convenient proximity to restaurants and wineries. Owners Doug and Deb have created a true gem and were happy to assist with recommendations for restaurants and activities. Reservations are now seamlessly managed by Paso Robles Vacation Rentals. Our only regret is that we did not discover Orchard Hill Farm years ago. We intend to return soon and often. read more

My wife and I and her parents rented the carriage house from Doug and Debbie and were blown away. The location is great, slightly secluded but also just a few minutes away from a number of vineyards and an olive grove, so plenty to do right around the corner. The accommodations were absolutely lovely and being able to have the whole carriage house to ourselves was very nice, with multiple balconies, a large living room and kitchen with snacks and drinks available. Breakfast on both mornings was also amazing, and a fun experience meeting the chef of the day and chatting with the other guests as well as Doug and Debbie. Doug and Debbie were also very helpful with recommendations for both wineries to visit as well as more than accommodating on setting up dinner reservations for us, etc... Overall we couldn't have asked for a nicer experience. read more

What a great place. First, the setting is about 10 minutes west of downtown Paso just off the 46 on Vineyard Road. Very convenient for access to restaurants in town as well as near some great wineries. It is on the top of a hill with several acres of beautiful grounds and nice views. Second: The hosts, Debbie and Doug are great. They are welcoming, helpful and informative but not intrusive. They are also very knowledgeable about the wineries and wine of the region. Their recommendations were spot on. Lastly, the rooms. There are three rooms. We stayed in the largest - the Garden View room. It is cozy and comfortable. It is attached to the main house, but has its own entrance and is not connected to the main house internally. It is a large room with a King sleigh bed, sitting area and bathroom. There is also an attached bedroom with two twin beds for additional storage or if you are traveling with an order child or parent. The main room also has a huge walk in closet. There are two rooms in a separate building, but we didn't see them. The web site has pictures of them. Their attention to detail is excellent. Doug and Debbie are frequent travelers themselves, so they know what travelers want. They also ask for feedback on what else could have made your stay better. We couldn't think of a thing to add.. Examples of their nice touches in the room include chilled wine and real creamer in the fridge, robes in the closet and fuzzy blankets on the sofa. We will be back. read more

Our weekend stay at this gorgeous place was too short! Not only was our cozy Garden View room beautifully clean, and decorated with victorian charm, our hosts, Doug and Debbie, were warm and friendly... they recommended the best wineries to visit, offered coupons for free tastings, and even provided almond milk and a vegan banana bread, to accommodate my husband's dairy allergy. A beautiful bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived, and the king sized bed is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! I cannot say enough about the care and kindness we were shown...the views and the grounds are breathtaking. I even made friends with one of their free roaming chickens! Well, between Paso Robles itself and this charming little hideaway to stay in, I can't imagine it getting much better. From someone who loved coming here and staying in the downtown square to be in close proximity to the food and energy, I must say, I have found Jesus again (metaphorically speaking). The Orchard Hill Farm is such a treasure, we thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The location was quite ideal or it's just a coincidence that many of my favorite wineries are along that same road (could be serendipity I suppose). It's such a lovely venue for two couples which is what we did with our dear friends and wine aficionados. The two bedroom suites are situated on opposite sides of the cottage and have their own bathrooms with a perfect kitchen and living room in between. Everything was quite comfortable and in good working order. The stars indulged us in the evening as we sat outside and BBQed our dinner listening to a playlist I titled 'slightly edgy cab' - it came to me literally as I gazed at the night sky while Joe Jackson asked if I felt like trying something new....ahhh moments. Seriously you wine loving, utterly civilized, grateful grape enthusiasts, you ought to give up your hotel room for a weekend and head for the hills, or specifically, this hill and just let your heart melt away at the simple pleasures in life....the vegetable garden in the front....stop...the rafter of turkeys on the slope below....stop!....the starry night sky (yes it deserves a second mention)....stop!! and the accommodating and friendly proprietor Deb reclining on her porch, is that a mint julep?...I can't even. It's just a hidden gem, and now you're in the know...isn't it great getting the inside scoop and it exceeds your expectations...or it will when you get there. Debby and Doug are the dynamic duo who'd make your stay truly memorable. We stayed during the Harvest weekend when the fall weather just kicked in and the leaves just started to turn colors. The property is strategically located just off Vineyard drive where most the famous wineries cohabit happily. It is perched on top of the hill overlooking vineyards on the rolling hills which give you beautiful view of sunrise and sunset. The day is peaceful with the sound of breeze, and the water trickles down the multiple fountains. The night is the starriest I have seen and it is never too loud even with the sound of crickets chirping and the coyotes howling. Yes, the farm has chicken pen, so the roster crows gently from a distance just before sunrise. The main house and the carriage house are well-appointed. We stayed in the "country side" room that was very cozy furnished with overstuffed couches and super duper comfy bed. It is decorated (not cluttered) with antiques, it has private patio and bathroom with wonderful toiletries and robes. And not to forget, the chocolate truffles and a bottle of wine on the arrival day!!!! Debby proves that more is more and the more the merrier.. Breakfast was served at a comfortable 9am in the main house's patio where we got to meet and greet other guests. This is where each of us formulated our plan-of-the-day. Doug kept the freshly brewed thick coffee flowing and Debby made this delicious egg shuffle and baked pastries that put the prefix "gourmet" in our breakfast. Do keep tap on time because it's easy to chat your day away here (not that anything wrong with it if that's what you want). They made going home to OC really difficult and we'll be back read more

What a gem! A beautiful, pastoral and peaceful setting where you can spend all your time wine tasting in Paso Robles or lounging in your room. Personally, I could have spent all day in that bed. A charming room to match the wonderful hosts. They're happy to give you as much space as you need (you can come and go of your own accord since your room is separate from the main house) or talk to you about anything. They're gracious hosts with great personalities that served me more food than I could handle -- but I tried. Your "guest house" has its own lounge area and kitchen so you can even bring wine and cheese or some yummy dessert back to the homestead. What a treat! My boyfriend and I stayed at Orchard Hill a few months ago for a romantic weekend away from town. The bed and breakfast surpassed both of our expectations. The grounds are beautiful. Both the main house and the guest house over look the hillside and provide lovely views of the town below. Doug and Debbie were extremely accommodating, and even shipped me a shoe and some medication I left behind following the trip! This B&B was hands down the best we have ever stayed at. My husband and I just stayed here last weekend because of a family wedding across the way. AMMAZING really does not do it justice. The rooms were classy, immaculate, romantic, and very roomy. Fresh flowers on all the tables, chocolates on the nightstand, wine in the fridge, and gorgeous views of the rolling paso robles hills from each rooms private deck. Debbie is so kind and such a gracious hostess. Breakfast was a highlight! Gourmet entries served either on the wrap-around deck overlooking the hills, or the dining room. Fresh local fruit, squeezed juices, gourmet frittatas, and pastries filled with glorious deliciousness were some of the entrees served while we were there. The most beautiful location for a B&B on the Central Coast. Rooms are perfectly detailed, feels like the home you wish you had. Views are out of this world. In addition to wholeheartedly agreeing with the previous reviews, each room features its own balcony and spectacular breathtaking views of some beautiful countryside in every direction no matter which direction you are facing. We stayed in the fireside room and really enjoyed it along with a spacious bathroom. We enjoyed an amazing view of the moon, the sound of nearby owls and the quiet stillness of the evening. It all added to the romantic setting. The surrounding, the rooms and place itself all speak of a quiet elegance like enjoying an increditble meal in an appropriate setting. "This Place is beautiful" was all my husband could say every 5min. We so enjoyed our stay here with the views, the huge room (sitting area with window seat, walk-in-closet,small refrigerator with real cream for coffee if you get up early, breads and chocolates, a new btl of wine every day, deck with chairs/table, nice bathroom, extra room that had two singe beds in it, electric fireplace) it was so nice that after wine tasting and lunch we just brought back cheese/bread/salami and made a fire in the outdoor fire place every night: watched the sun go down over the hills/wineries and the stars come out! Debbie and Doug didn't miss a detail and my husband didn't miss ESPN. There are only 3 suites available so it was very private, quite and yes "beautiful". read more
