The pathway from the street to the black barn/ Squibb Houses
Katy J.

This was our second time staying at the Squibb Houses. We stayed in the Black Barn, Maple Room. My husband and I absolutely loved it! It's a cozy, welcoming, beautiful BnB in charming Cambria. It's in the middle of the downtown so you can walk to everything. The garden surrounding it is gorgeous and ethereal. Tiffany, the hostess, is a gem! She is warm, friendly, and helpful. Also a great cook! The breakfast spread is delectable. In the evening, there are cookies and tea available in the lobby area with a warm fireplace and big windows to view the beautiful garden through. We HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for a charming and memorable getaway that is relaxing and rejuvenating.

The bed was a little soft, the windows need blackout curtains, and an air conditioner or ceiling fan, but the space was immaculate and welcoming. The Bed and Breakfast host meets and greets each person in a super friendly manner. The welcome snacks and breakfasts were excellent.

If you value authentic experiences in historic places the Squibb house must be on your list when you are in mid coast california. The ambiance is quiet and the rooms tasteful and decorated with historic photos or early days. The in town location means you can walk everywhere. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely loved staying here! Check in and out was swift as it's just self service. I stayed here for my 4 year anniversary in the Parlor Room and enjoyed every minute of it. The garden out front was lovely and any staff we approached were friendly. They have lots of options for breakfast and will leave afternoon treats! Water is available in the kitchenette at all times too. I also enjoyed the amish furniture (sold next door). Remember to bring earplugs too as the walls are thin and you can hear every creek and passerby. Looking to stay here again in the future!

My wife and i are really enjoying ourselves at the Black Barn, a newly appointed Bed and Breakfast house next to the Squibb House which is owned and operated by the same owner. The Squibb Houses have the Squibb House, the Black Barn, and an Amish Shop adjacent to one another. So clean, peaceful, and simple. We had a wonderful time here!! The breakfast and coffee was so good and Bruce, the owner, joined us and the other guests too for breakfast each morning. The wood that you find all around the barn from the ceiling to the floor is from the owner's great grandfather's barn built in the 1870's in Pennsylvania. It is quite stunning to think of the history and the labor involved to accomplish this feat. And, if that's not enough, the long table in the Black Barn where we stayed is a gorgeous, repurposed carpenter's work bench from this actual property also from the late 1800's! When you stay here, you will find yourself in a peaceful, unique, and clean atmosphere with a friendly and attentive owner and staff. Even the furniture is made by Amish craftsman and you can buy what you see in the shop next door. If I could give extra stars, I would!

We stopped in last year and our friends wanted to check it out also. My friend just loved the hand made rocking chairs especially one that just stood out. I can't recall the name of the hardwood, but these bent hardwood Amish rocking chairs are just beautiful. The craftsmanship is incredible and well worth the price for a swivel chair for $595.00. Bruce the owner took us next door to the B&B and gave us a tour of the old B&B built in 1877 and the newer B&B which is adjacent. He told us the history of his great grandfathers barn in PA which he had deconstructed and had the wood milled and trucked out here to use in the newer B&B. We will be back to spend the night here.

Perfect location in downtown Cambria. Such a charming Victorian inn. We have stayed in the Gothic and Village rooms. Both were lovely.

Wonderful B and B with historic interest. I was fortunate to be hired to play guitar for a wedding there and it was lovely.

The place is immaculately clean and they absolutely left us alone. That said, it's a peculiar place in that you will not have any human interaction of any kind with the staff or other guests. When you arrive, you will receive a text with a code for the lock on the building and your room. There is no check in at a desk. They provide a breakfast but they leave it in a picnic basket outside your door. There is no dining room with breakfast. There is a small room with individual coffee making machine and a microwave in this small room. Management does respond by text to questions that you text them. They will help you find local places to eat, etc. But you will not interact with another human face to face at any time. Again, though it was perfect for us, it's kind of like being under quarantine. In fact, it's like covid is still a thing. I never saw anyone from management or staff. If you're looking for a typical bed and breakfast where you dine with other guests at a table or enjoy the social aspects, this is not the place for you. If you are like us and just wanted to be alone, you've found it.

For my boyfriend's birthday weekend, I decided to book J Patrick House and Inn. I was really…read moreplanning on giving this place a 5 star review but after the awful experience here on our last day, I decided to take 2 stars off. Let me start with the positives. Before our arrival we were given a code to enter the living space and our room, so it was very convenient to have such an easy check-in with no hassle. Plus was a warm welcome from Nana, the Inn's pet cat. She was really cute and friendly. The room itself was cozy and patios enough for the two of us. The room was spotless clean and loved how spacious the bathroom was, and how comfortable the bed was as well. As far as the complimentary breakfast we received. It was okay. It was a quiche, yogurt with fruit, a muffin, sausages, and orange juice, on both days. It was left by our door around 9 am the two days we were there. Now, for the negatives. Parking spaces are limited and each room doesn't have a guaranteed parking spot. They have misleading information on their website. If you come back after 8 pm, forget about finding parking there. You will need to park in Cambria Inn, their sister property, and walk up a very dark and dangerous road back up to the Inn, which is unsafe! When I let their Inn know about this parking situation, the night before, I couldn't reach anyone after 8 pm, so I was told to call Cambria Inn. The person who picked up was extremely rude, and told me to park anywhere there was parking, after I explained there were no spots available. Finally we ended up parking at the Cambria Inn. The next day, I let the J. Patrick house know about this parking situation and someone over text got super defensive and was trying to send me screenshots of there being parking, when clearly there was none when we arrived, and kept arguing with me about it, which left a really bad taste in my mouth, and in stress I ended up leaving my super expensive jacket, which I still haven't heard about from the Inn. It's unfortunate that this situation happened because I was really hoping that we would have a better ending to a special weekend! I will not be coming back here again!

I want to express our sincere gratitude for Sam's help…read more Our original room was extremely hot and muggy, likely due to the location and weather. For $350+ a night, I expected a little more. The room looked…read moredecent enough at first, but the strong musty smell and stained carpet quickly changed that impression. We were also tucked way in the back in a dark corner of the property, which wasn't exactly inviting. Then the little things started adding up. The shower curtain rod was pulling out of the wall, the wallpaper around the shower was loose from moisture, and the ice bucket still had trash from the previous guest in it. At that point, it starts to feel less like an older coastal hotel and more like nobody is really checking the rooms. The pool was half empty with green water sitting at the bottom. Maybe it was under repair, but it definitely wasn't usable. Housekeeping is another strange setup. If you want your room cleaned, you have to request it the day before, and then repeat that request every day. You can't just ask for service for your whole stay. At check-in we were told they used to offer complimentary breakfast, but the new company stopped. The alternative was to walk down the street to another hotel and pay about $20. The next morning my wife went for hot water for tea and they were out. The suggestion was to use the coffee maker in the room. That works, I suppose, if you like your tea with a little coffee flavor. The guy at the front desk wasn't rude, but his attitude was very much, "it is what it is." And to be fair, I've stayed in worse places. The difference is, those places usually charged a lot less. For $350+ a night, FogCatcher is asking you to overlook quite a bit.
