    Cousins!

I want to post a full review when I have the pictures back from our photographer, but until then, just know, this place is a gem! We rented the Pickford house for my wedding weekend, and had the evening reception here. It was so great to have essentially an entire hotel to ourselves. The evenings leading up to the wedding spent with family was perfect! Seeing the little cousins playing, having drinks in the dining room as we shared memories from years past, I wish I could give it more stars! If I could do it all over again, I would have gotten married on the beach and had everything else at the Pickford house! Lorienne +1 (805) 200-7908 catered our event and made things just as I had envisioned! She hired a great bartender for us, and hired staff to clean up too!

Came here for the week for a family reunion. The 1920's cinema theme is displayed in colors, decor, photos, posters and even shown in the antique piano, fireplaces and bar. There is plenty of parking, lots of room to hang out and play games. Each bedroom has its own vintage 1920's bathroom. Kitchen is huge with two fridges, a monster hood vent and a stove big enough to roast a big. My only complaint is about the resident groundskeeper who lives in a unit attached to the Pickford house. He leaves his TV blaring all night, which sucks when you paid a premium price to rent the whole house for your family and you want A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP. Also, he sits on his porch and smokes. The smoke fills the first floor of the house. I cannot tell you how aggravating it is to have the house filled with a dozens of children and adults.... ALL BREATHING CIGARETTE SMOKE INSIDE THE HOUSE!! Especially when you're paying a premium price for a non smoking building. There is signage posted all over showing smokers to go to the back of the parking lot patio chairs to smoke. I guess this guy has it so good, he doesn't have to follow the house rules. I had a great time. But due to the resident groundskeeper, I won't come back.

After years of reading reviews, this place has finally made me want to write one! I booked this 9 room house 8 months in advance of my 30th b-day. I had done tons of research and this was the best option for hosting an event and having 22-29 people all stay in the same house...comfortably. In a short statement: The house is Awesome, the service and friendliness could definitely improve. If you want to judge for yourself, I'll give you some facts about our experience, things that were important to me, may not be as big of a deal for others. The house is amazing, very unique in decor and although its a little rough around the edges (like some rooms don't have working heaters and the fan turns on the same time as the main lights, etc..) BUT its got an awesome dining/hang out room with a fantastic vintage Bar. Well equipped kitchen and 2 fridges. Not only did this house work great as a venue for my Old West Saloon themed party, but it is also a great option for family reunions, etc. Each room having its own full bathroom and all the rooms being upstairs keeps everyone's stuff stowed away and the downstairs area becomes a clutter free hang out zone. It is right next to the 1 HWY, so some HWY noise and no yard, but the rooms seal off sound really well. The house is a 20 min. walk to the beach and a short easy drive. About 20 min. walk to downtown. My issues with the stay: Marci, the owner is very busy with other things and doesn't really have the time to address all the little questions that come about with booking a reservation...she does get back to you and will answer them, but you always ge the sense that she is annoyed and has more important things to be doing. I was paying for the entire rental myself and when I'm spending a couple grand on something, I'm going to have questions and be a little high maintenance. The caregiver that lives on-site was pretty rude, but it could have also been due to possible miscommunication between her and the owner. She was supposed to let us into the house late night and when we arrived those arrangements had not been made, she was also supposed to take the trash out each day, but that did not happen either. I had rush ordered a costume piece and it arrived the day of the party, but the caregiver did not give this to us, instead she opened the package and eventually it was shipped to me at home 2 weeks after the party. On the day of check-out, we had arranged for a 2pm check-out, but the caregiver came out angry at 11 and it appeared as though the information had not been communicated to her. The caregiver was great in that she did not disturb us and put up with our loudness, but she could have been a lot more welcoming and friendly. Like I said before, LOVE the house and would prob. turn this into an annual family reunion location, but not jumping to make those arrangements considering the annoyed energy the people give off.

What a unique place to spend with family, friends and/or organized groups! I spent a weekend there with my friends and we had the best time with tons of space to relax and enjoy ourselves. The Pickford House is equipped to house large or small groups privately and comfortably. I love love love the fun theme and style of the house. It is perfectly suited for a great memorable time in the Central coast!! I'm already planning another visit for next year. Hopefully my week will be available!!!

Beautiful setting for a wedding or special event

Great place for weddings, family reunions or other events. 9 bedrooms - each w/ private bath, and nice living room/dining room with plenty of space to congregate. We were here for a wedding, and really enjoyed being able to spend time with everyone in a relaxed setting. So much more comfortable than a hotel.

One of the problems when staying with dogs at a hotel is that, at least with my dogs, they tend bark at every little noise. With people checking in at all hours of the day, this can become annoying. So I figured staying in a small bungalow would be a good fit. Not only would did it have it's own private backyard for them to run around in, I could also kick back and do a BBQ. Doing an online search for pet-friendly places I stumbled upon Cambria Beach Bungalow, which is managed by the Blue Whale Inn in Cambria. Looking at the photos, I decided to stay there. Although expensive, I really enjoyed my stay here. It's about a block away from the Beach, so it was real easy to walk the dogs down there. The interior is country home kitsch, it has two bedrooms and some fold out couches in the living room where you can accommodate more guest. The main drag to Cambria is less than a mile so it's easy to get supplies there. The backyard has a nice garden and plenty of room to run for small dogs. There is a fence to hold the dogs in, but a larger athletic dog should be able to jump it if they had the urge. They have a charcoal BBQ in the back yard , so I went to Soto's Market in Cambria and purchased some grass-fed Hearst Ranch rib-eyes and hamburger to grill. Mighty tasty! I enjoyed my stay at the Cambria Beach Bungalow as did my dogs. You do pay a pet fee as well as a cleanup fee so it does get expensive, but hey, once in a while I will splurge for the pets.

The ocean view can be enjoyed from the quaint living room while sitting next to a blazing fire. You may want to take in the view from trails along the bluff above the magnificent ocean, or venture down to the beach for a little beach combing, it's called "Moonstone Beach" for a reason...look carefully, you will most certainly find sea treasures. The lush lawn is a pleasure and it even has a fenced back yard for your furry, 4 legged, family members.

This property is owned by a company that owns at least four other properties on Moonstone Beach, and shares with them poor customer service. Examples from a recent stay include Wi-Fi that was frequently nonfunctional, and when complaints were made, we were told either that the problem couldn't be fixed, or couldn't be fixed until the next day because no maintenance staff were available. The rooms, lack decor and character, although the bed was very comfortable. When we asked that the waste baskets be emptied at the beginning of the day, we were told that since we did not make that request the night before, it could not be accommodated because of insufficient custodial staff. When I made this request to the manager on duty, she gave me a look as though I had asked her to donate a kidney. We emptied the baskets ourselves. The property has two fire pits, both of which were essentially nonfunctional. Also, the pool was closed. When they ran our credit card on check-in, they actually immediately charged the entire fee for the stay at once. This is an unusual practice, since most similar properties assess the actual charges for the room at checkout. If you were looking for a place to sleep, steps away from the boardwalk on Moonstone Beach, this will fit the bill, but there are a number of better options steps away from this property.
