This little place is location, location, location and what a view it does provide. If you are looking for a weekend getaway or just stopping through, it's a clean little hotel and it also offers free breakfast. The rooms are decent size. We did have a slight miscommunication on the room type but we were able to make it work. The rooms did have a smell to it but you get use to it. There's a pool with a fire pitt and right across the street is the walking path. Absolutely stunning at sunset! They also have a swing which is nice to sit on. Jack was here to check us in and assist. They also had cookies for you in the room. Wouldn't suggest the ocean view because only 1 room has a full on view. Otherwise it's all off to the side with partial view. read more

Paper thin walls. You can hear people farting, sneezing blowing their nose etc in the rooms next to you. Above you elephant tap dances. Bed was super comfy. Hotel staff were borderline rude or hate their job. Cleaning crew only makes the bed. No restock or throwing away trash or cleaning surfaces. Our stay at Castle Inn was alright. Incredible location, decent continental breakfast, and we enjoyed the pool/hot tub a lot. Rooms were alright- the bed was comfortable and rooms were spacious, although there was a pretty large and noticeable gap in between our door and the ground. It was very easy to hear outside of the room. I would NOT recommend paying extra for the ocean/partial ocean view. Very marginal difference. Generally, I feel like it was a bit pricey for what it was. Genuine small piece of advice- if the water station in the lobby is meant for employees only, it might make more sense to put it behind the desk or in office. Such a great spot! This was my first time staying on Moonstone Drive. I loved all the outdoor activity options - firepit, Adirondack chairs, pool, spa, and proximity to the beach and boardwalk. In the room, I loved the Keurig, fresh baked cookies and comfort of the seating areas as well as the king bed. It got cold at night and I put the extra blanket to use. The rooms and grounds were very well-cared for and maintained. The only downside was that I should have considered that my room could be on a second story. Lifting heavy things up stairs is not my favorite! I also realized my room was extra drafty because my door had a large gap under it. It needs a "door sweep" or bottom thing to help with that. Loved my ocean view, though. All in all, a fantastic stay! read more

We were down during the Cambria Christmas Market. This is a older small motel along the coast. Fabulous views of the sunset, fire pit, chairs to watch the view, clean and tidy. The walls and ceiling are thin but it was updated and very well kept. The continental breakfast was a surprise with the big selection of eats. My good friend always stays here whenever she visits the area, and after hearing my daughter rave about it, I decided it was my turn to try it out. The place is so charming and inviting--nothing fancy, but just right. We only stayed for one night, but I found myself wishing we could stay longer. The location is perfect, right across the street from the oceanfront boardwalk, making for a gorgeous and scenic walk. I enjoyed sitting outside in the evening, watching the sunset by the fire pit, which was wonderful. They also offer breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately, I accidentally left my seat cushion, which I need for my back, by the fire pit, and someone took it without turning it in. I was disappointed, as I needed it for the rest of the trip. The rooms we stayed in were average size for 2 bed rooms, nevertheless they were quite nice and well maintained, well furnished. The pricing seemed to be average / on-par for the surrounding area, so not exorbitantly expensive, fair pricing for being a stones throw away from the ocean and Hearst Castle (the reason for our stay). Offers small breakfast bar in the morning. One area where we were quite impressed was the customer service - we feel it important to recognize the fella working the lobby. Our guy, Jack, really went above and beyond. He was very friendly and affable and took a few small steps which impressed us. We checked in on Valentine's Day, Jack / the hotel offered us small Valentine's Day gift bags for our children, in addition to fresh cut roses for my wife and my daughter. This small token offering by Jack and the hotel was quite nice and well appreciated. We would stay here again for sure. read more

Needed a place to sleep 1 night after Hearst Castle. The motels available closest in San Simeon looked just so so, and that area didn't seem to have much of anything else. So I came across Castle Inn in Cambria during my search, a much nicer town with lots of restaurants and motel/hotels to choose from. Castle Inn had a reasonable price and looked clean in the pics and location seemed perfect across the ocean walkways, and along the strip of motels and restaurants. Cost is more than the San Simeon basic motels, but glad I chose Castle Inn for the stay for us 3. This is a small motel, but it's been updated to look so clean and inviting from the outside. Check in with Mr. Jack was smooth and got the keys to lucky #7 room! Swung open the door and wow, so cute! Super clean interior. Not too roomy but had everything you needed. Bathroom was kinda small (to go in with the kid to help him shower) but modern and clean. Everything felt very clean and fresh, and wife loved the make up seating area too. Loved the lawn chairs and kid was hooked on the swinging bench. He swung most of the night when we were seated around the fire pit with other guests. Seemed like many were regulars who come stay at Castle Inn, so you know this place is good. Kid swung way too much and he actually got some motion sickness from it. Luckily was able to get him washed up and into bed to go to sleep without any issues. The bed on the bathroom side was a bit noisy lumpy maybe, but the bed by the window seemed to be good. Either way, good to have clean bed to sleep on. I loved the fresh cookies, I ate mine up for dessert after dinner at the next next door place, lol. Firm chewy excellent treat! Breakfast at lobby had some pastries and fresh coffee. I was told the cookies and breakfast items are all baked fresh by the owner? Wow, no wonder everything was so good. Morning walk on the endless walkway with a coffee in hand was perfect start to the new day to continue on our way. This place is KISS, keep it simple stupid. Super clean rooms with nice setup and everything needed in a small footprint. Even the parking lot was immaculate and great. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay around the Hearst Castle area. read more

What a view! Right across from Moonstone Beach. Plus a hot tub, pool (not heated very hot, around 70), and chairs across from the beach. The room was fine, we paid extra for a king. They have a luggage rack, small closet, small bathroom, fridge, desk, side table, keurig. They also had a continental breakfast, which we weren't expecting, along with an EV charger. Main drawback was that the walkway goes right in front of the windows so you need to keep the shades closed for privacy, motel style. read more

We love coming to Cambria and we have stayed at the Castle Inn a few times since it was acquired by the Cambria Inns collection and totally remodeled. One of the things we appreciate about this property. Is that many of the rooms have a very nice ocean view. Several reviews show the remodeled rooms which are always very clean, but in this review, I wanna focus on the breakfast room and the breakfast spread that is now available to every guest From 7 AM to 10 AM. The breakfast room is a new building that we watched being constructed on earlier visits. You can see from the pictures that they have a nicer array of typical breakfast foods, but there are several fine touches that make it a nice, easy, and accessible breakfast when you're guest of the hotel. First, note that they provide trays so that you can carry things back to your room. This is one of my biggest complaints in many facilities, because if you wanna eat in your room, you may have to make two or three trips to be able to take the things you would like to take. They have a touchless pancake maker that makes one, too, or three pancakes at a time. They also have hard-boiled eggs (which my wife loves) and some instant oatmeal options. I appreciated the yogurt they have cause it's the brand I use at home and I eat it every day. Excellent customer service from check in to check out! The room maybe limited in size but surprisingly functional & very clean. Towels, bedsheets & pillows smell so fresh. Toilet paper & napkins are supplied sufficiently. All the section in the room are clean & organized. Complimentary breakfast from 7am to 10am has wide selection of oatmeal, cereals, eggs, pancakes, bread, yogurt, juice, tea, coffee & and lot more. Staff are always present to serve. There's a decent size of swimming pool for adults & kids. Not to mention the beautiful view of the serene beach as a bonus! It's also a walking distance to bars & restaurants. read more

We stayed two nights here last week for the first time. We were pleasantly surprised with the very clean and nice accommodations! The property is beautiful with a lovely pool and hot tub and fire pit. There are plenty of chairs on the lawn to watch the sunset from or even whale watch. The staff was super super nice. read more

My friends and I stayed here for a girls' trip and we were satisfied with the motel. Located right across from the boardwalk of Moonstone Beach, you can literally step outside, cross the street, and set foot on the boardwalk. We occupied a room on the second floor, so be mindful when booking if anyone in your group has a physical disability that makes stairs hard to climb. If that is the case, make sure to ask for the lower floor. Also when booking, the place never sent us a confirmation email, but thank goodness we didn't have any issues with staff locating our lodging reservations. The room we had was clean for the most part, except one area of the bed looked like it had coffee stains. The one weird thing about the design too is the walkway/hallway outside. You can see directly into the rooms if the windows are drawn, since anyone walking is basically going to walk past your window. However, we had no issue with noise the day we went, and overall, we were glad that the room was clean, and this place was conveniently located to the beach. There is also a small fridge and microwave in the room. We also appreciated that the bathroom was equipped with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a blow dryer. They also have a Keurig machine, coffee pods, sugar, and tea packets for use. The motel is also about 10 min. away from Hearst Castle for anyone considering to visit there too. What a wonderful hotel with a beautiful location! We were in the upstairs Room 10. Even though there were lots of lounge chairs out in front of the hotel to watch the sun set over the ocean, our room had a great oceanview from the window as well. Room was very clean and spacious; we really liked the lighting in the room and the bathroom. Air conditioner worked efficiently and was pretty quiet. Bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows, and lots of towels available to use in the bathroom. Room had a microwave, mini fridge, and mini Keurig with a few coffee pods provided. Breakfast in the morning included muffins and scones. Also FYI, the ice machine outside had a little water spigot to fill a water bottle! read more

No communication I called the number that I was provided and I couldn't get in touch with anyone to let them know that first I had been given the deluxe room and I thought it was a completely different room and also we might be a little early if they could find a spot for us so I was put on voicemail several times. Finally, I got in touch with a guy that said he had a room full of customers and he would call me right back. He took my number and then two hours later it was obvious he wasn't calling back so the next day when we came there, they said they were just finishing up a room and they would call us when it was ready and they didn't call us until we we contacted him at 2:30 and switch. The man said this is not my problem. You people know you we don't have check-in time till 3 o'clock. I want to emphasize that it's not my problem if it's not his problem I'd like to know who's problem it is anyway we won't be going back. read more

The rooms are clean and comfortable. It has all the needed amenities. I would have liked a channel guide though. It also would be nice if they had the option to stream Netflix. It is cozy and relaxing. We loved the location! Also having an EV charger and for free is definitely something we definitely appreciated and actually had a big part in our choice to stay here. I would go back, but I do want to try another Inn that has more of a luxury feel to it. I would have loved a robe and maybe nicer bedding. But, it was perfect for us to spend a safe comfortable fourth of July. I would go back and I definitely recommend it. We enjoyed Cambria! Oh and the chairs on the front lawn is a really cute touch. My husband and I spent the weekend here in beautiful Cambria and stayed 2 nights. The hotel is one of many on this strip and the most affordable. The rooms have been newly renovated with modern furniture. They are bright, spacious and offer lots of storage. They make very effective use of the small space. They have a heated pool and many lounge chairs to sit on their beautifully landscaped lawn. You can sit and enjoy the views and sounds of the ocean. We opted for an "ocean view" room and there was a view but it was a bit underwhelming. We weee in room 6. Just be forewarned, you will not get a complete ocean view as the hotel is separated by a street and walking path. The bonus is you do have easy access to the breathtaking trail across the way. Literally just steps from the hotel room. The only complaint we have about this hotel is how thin the walls are. Our first night here was very noisy as it was a Saturday night. There was a lot of foot traffic up and down the stairs, which we were close to. We could also hear the neighbors. It wasn't until about 11 or so that the place settled down. Overall, we had a wonderful stay here and would return. read more

Love this place. 2nd time staying here. The room are small but they work well. The Oceanview room has a great view of the ocean. You can walk across the street to the beach. They have a nice sitting area with chairs. The pool is open. The fire place is cozy, especially on a hilly night. The room we stayed has everything you need, from a coffee machine to a small refrigerator. They have bikes for couples or a family to enjoy. Shower pressure is good.
