It's been quite awhile since I've stayed at Moonstone Landing. I was excited to come back and see if anything has changed. The staff were super friendly and accommodating, just as I remembered. Unless you plan on pulling all-nighters, I don't recommend this place. I got very little sleep both nights due to hearing the people walking above me past midnight. A call to the night manager Friday night did nothing to stop it. But at the same time, it's not as if they were partying or shouting. They were simply walking around, and I was unlucky enough to be in the room below them in a place that clearly wasn't built to be a hotel. I've stayed in countless hotels with people above me, and this is the first time in my life that I've paid them any mind or had the urge to report a noise complaint. Which again...they were just walking, which they technically have a right to do, despite how annoying it was to me at the time. The room was a bit overpriced to begin with, so this only made me regret that much more. Two stars instead of one since the property was still nice with a prime location. But if you have your heart set on this place, book a room on the second floor. Other reviews show that I'm not the first person to have this issue. read more

I've been vacationing here for years. This year we splurged and paid a premium price for an ocean front view. We enjoyed our stay and all the front desk employees were extremely polite, helpful and accommodating. The room was very clean. The fireplace is easy to use and extremely effective. However, I would like to make a few suggestions on how to improve the experience of staying at Moonstone Landing for all your guests: First, please provide your guests with 3-ply, SOFT toilet paper. The cheap, one-ply toilet paper this hotel uses was horrible to use. If you're asking guests to pay premium prices for these rooms then at least provide them with decent toilet paper. Second, please consider investing in NEW, comfortable outdoor patio chairs with accompanying foot rests. The chairs you have now feel cheap and uncomfortable. Third, I would jazz up the "average" continental breakfast. It's the one thing hungry guests look forward to every morning and the pastries provided leave one underwhelmed and still hungry. Linn's cheese danish pastries are delicious but the other two muffins were "meh". The boiled eggs are fine. I think adding a variety of cereals would be appreciated. Maybe provide granola bars? Fourth, I know renovations are costly. But at some point you'll have to redo the stone flooring in all the bathrooms as the long cracks in the stone initially make a bad impression. Again, we enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this hotel. As a long-time patron, I'm offering my insights in the hopes you'll make the necessary changes to stay competitive and continue to draw in new guests. read more

We have stayed at other places on Moonstone Beach in past years. We decided to try a different property and the reviews looked inviting. We had room 101 which is on the first floor ocean front. Parking was convenient, right next to our room. The room has a perfect view of the ocean. The patio has 2 chairs and a table. The room had plenty of chairs, a comfortable bed, mini refrigerator, walk in shower and a large bathroom vanity. The fireplace took the chill off at night. Complementary continental self-serve breakfast is served in the reception area and an outdoor patio is also available. There is a hot tub but we did not use it. The only down side is that we could hear the people in the second floor room above us walking. This was a little annoying. read more

Fantastic clean hotel on moonstone beach. We stayed in a king partial view room upstairs, #216. The room got fairly hot in January. Rooms on the Sea Chest Oyster Bar restaurant side (which this one was) seem to get more sun, so they are warmer. It cooled down at night, but not enough to use the gas fireplace. We didn't notice any restaurant noise, and we were able to hear the ocean all night, which was lovely. In the morning they serve pastries and muffins and coffee which were all delicious. The bed was very comfortable, and we got a good nights sleep. It's just so wonderful to be directly on moonstone beach where you can walk on the path and see the stunning ocean. There are also stairs taking you down to the beach. The Sea Chest Oyster bar is super popular with people lining up to get in long before it opens. We were able to get in about an hour after we put our name down and the food was delicious. Cash only. There are other restaurants within walking distance and one night we ate in town at the Sow's Ear, which was also delicious. Would happily return to Moonstone Landing! read more

Stayed overnight recently. Room was clean and pleasant, but this is NOT a $300+ / night hotel. More like a motel with nice furnishings. Walls and ceiling are paper thin; we were up for a couple hours past midnight listening to the upstairs guest pace on the creaky bamboo floors. Earplugs didn't help. The WiFi router in our room beeped CEASELESSLY. Finally managed to turn it off on our own. Management was unwilling to refund a portion of our room fee because we didn't call the night manager and were able to fumble it off ourselves. Honestly, in our sleep-deprived state we were just desperate to make the noise stop. Would not stay again and recommend folks stay elsewhere. read more

Really lovely, modern, clean, well equipped little seaside lodge. Across the street from the lovely moonstone beach shores with lots to explore and indulge in ultimate R&R. Within walking distance to two yummy restaurants Sea Chest oyster Bar and Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill neither of which take reservations but never a long wait. Breakfast is included which is a simple continental breakfast with more than enough of what you need such as yogurts, fruits, oatmeal, juices, milk, coffee and pastries from a delicious little bakery in town. Another great recommendation from fellow yelper Chris D. Stayed at two other places in the past along Moonstone Beach Drive, and this is by far the best one, but also the most expensive one so far. Seems to be a very popular place as it's usually fully booked. I was only able to secure a room because I made the reservation more than 3 months in advance. My family and I stayed in a room with partial ocean view with 2 queen size beds. Our room was very clean and spacious, including the bathroom. Probably the biggest bathroom I've seen for a hotel. Had all necessary bathroom supplies like shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and hair dryer. Noise level was minimal, and this place charges a penalty if you make too much noise after 10 p.m. Check in time: 3 p.m. Check out time: 11 a.m. Complimentary breakfast is served between 8 a.m.-10 a.m. in the registration office, located at back of the building by the jacuzzi. During our stay there were 2 different types of cereal, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, fruit juices, fruits, and pastries from Linn's. My main complaint with this place is height of its beds. They are quite high, almost to the point where I felt like I had to climb or jump up to it. It also has hardwood floor, which looks nice, but not ideal if you are traveling with little kids. My 6-year old son fell off the bed twice in the middle of the night. Good thing I knew about the floor in advance and brought along a padded floor mat. read more

We stopped in Cambria for a night to break up a long drive home. I tried seeing reviews of hotels on my phone's small screen the night before and morning of booking my room. We needed an ADA room, with 2 beds, and no stairs, as my mother can't bend her knees well, and can't do stairs. She is not in a wheelchair, but does need bars in the bathroom, and a walk-in shower (not a tub that you have to climb over), and preferably a higher toilet, not the extremely low ones that many hotels have, which is difficult for anyone that has height to them, has bad knees, etc. We were extremely happy with our room! We got an ADA room with 2 Queen beds and a partial ocean view. My suggestion: if you love ocean views, but are getting a partial view, you might just go with a regular view and walk down to see the ocean. It is a small amount of ocean that you will see, and if foggy, as it was in October, it's not worth paying extra for the small amount of view. Ocean front may be a different story; especially if staying several days, and maybe partial views closer to the front of the building. In our case, we were mainly interested in the ADA (handicap enabled) room, but would have taken the best view we could get, but paying extra for our partial view was not worth extra cost. Our room was very spacious, comfortable, and had a lot of charm. The bathroom had a beautiful tub with a seat, and a raised portion that someone with some mobility might be able to sit on and swing their legs over (not the case with my mother). The toilet had bars and was a good 4 - 5 inches higher than a standard toilet - exactly what is needed for anyone with height, bad knees, arthritis, etc. Not sure if that is more difficult with a wheelchair. While my mother was not able to use the shower in the tub, due to bad knees, the toilet (higher height) was the best of the 4 hotels we stayed at this month, including an exclusive resort. An important feature for many. Our room was near the office on the 2nd floor, (#218), however, the hotel is on a hill, so you can access the 2nd floor & office from the raised parking lot in the back, without doing any stairs. Our room had a fireplace, a table with 4 chairs near a window with our partial ocean view, a coffee maker, 2 large glass bottles filled with water, and a nice-sized fridge. They had 2 luggage racks, which also seems to be a rarity in hotel rooms these days. The room had comfortable arm chair with a reading light, which is very nice, as some of the luxury hotel rooms we had stayed in recently had no ability to read in the room, due to the lighting. There is a nice breakfast in the office in the morning. They have yogurt, cereal, Danish (from Linn's Restaurant in town), bananas, other fruit, hard boiled eggs, tea & coffee, etc. There were a couple of men exclaiming about the wonderful taste of the coffee (from SLO). It is in the office, and there are some tables outdoors, as well, on the patio, where there is also a hot tub surrounded by plexi-glass, to keep the wind away. There is a cute fountain of a wine bottle pouring wine into a glass. They had some Halloween decorations up when we were there, along with a bowl of candy on the counter. For a relatively small hotel, they had quite a few little extras that were nice. Our room was near the office and breakfast, and we heard a lot of noise in the morning, likely of the people going in for some breakfast. Otherwise, it was quiet during the night. Overall, we were more than happy with our room. It felt clean, very comfortable, and very spacious, with many nice touches. I would definitely come back to this hotel to stay. read more

Stayed here two years ago and couldn't wait to come back!!!! The only plus this time was the friendly staff! Sad to say the stay was terrible this time. Room was very dusty. Partial view of ocean was not visible due to the very dirty windows. Room was so hot while sleeping and the open window screen was so dirty that any fresh air couldn't get in. The television was so small and none of the apps worked. No instruction was given for WiFi so we were completely off the grid. Not able to record our medical equipment data. Plugs didn't work on the lamp either. The floors left all of our feet black, so bring slippers if you plan a stay here. The handicap shower was a lawsuit waiting to happen. You need an instruction sheet to get in the tub/shower or whatever it was. This room was the only one left for the weekend. A huge let down for such a wonderful location, this hotel needs a face lift and lots of love. read more

Highly recommend the ocean front rooms, otherwise you may just get a peekaboo view, maybe. Comfortable accommodations with a fireplace, two comfy lounge chairs, dining table and chairs, fridge, microwave and a nice sizable bathroom with jetted tub and separate shower. Downsides included a full on ant attack of our snacks bag (bummer!), a super janky hard-to-use "disappearing" screen door to the patio, a property jacuzzi that was definitely an afterthought with no view and awkwardly positioned outside of the property office in the back, and a less than mediocre continental breakfast offering. read more

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the mini fridge in the room kept turning on and making a noise all through the night and woke me up each time it went off. read more

Really enjoyed this hotel for a quick trip up to cambria. Booked a "partial ocean view" room and it was amazing. Competent, attentive and friendly staff. Got a good recommendation for dinner in town and all you have to do is walk 2 minutes across the street for beautiful views. Close to hearst castle as well as cayucos, morro bay, and san luis obispo. Modern, cozy, clean room had a comfortable bed and a fireplace. We stayed at Moonstone Landing for our anniversary in May. One of the best things about staying here was the receptionist Cass. She was extremely pleasant and went way beyond what was expected!! I made the reservation by phone and I told her it was our anniversary. When we arrived there was a card wishing us Happy Anniversary. She was helpful with finding things to do since we had been to Cambria numerous times. Upon leaving we had left a book in the room and she ran to find us in the parking lot. She also arranged for my hat to be shipped home (which was found later.) The room was very clean and if we needed anything it was sent to our room quickly. Will be leaving in the morning after having spent five nights in Room 101. Housekeeping was excellent. Pillows suck; we should have brought our own. My neck is killing me. This is a motel, meaning room doors open to the outside. Watching some of the people who walked into the parking lot, I wished our door had a swing bar on it -- a suggestion I made in my last review. The rooms also need a lighted makeup mirror and a safe. Having stayed here a couple of times, we knew we'd find one luggage rack. With two suitcases, we decided to bring our luggage rack from home with us. What a pleasant surprise to find that there were two luggage racks in our closet! They have upgraded their breakfast option. I noticed that, instead of pre-packaged store-bought muffins, they now have a selection of muffins from Linn's Restaurant & Bakery. That's definitely an improvement. The room needs maintenance: touch up paint is needed through-out and there are big cracks in the bathroom floor. Mary, about whom I've raved in past reviews, has passed; therefore, I didn't get the warm welcome that I've come to expect from Mary. But, that's life: no one gets out alive. read more

We had a patio room directly across from the ocean & it was exactly what I needed. We were able to sleep with the sliding glass door open a bit (there was a security bar in place so we felt safe about it) & listened to the sound of the ocean. Perfect, soft, sink-your-head-into-the-pillows and an extremely comfortable mattress. Lovely fireplace, and each room definitely has a great ocean view. WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, and the only bad part was that we only planned for one night. THIS is the kind of place to stay longer. I've stayed at the Blue Dolphin, Sand Pebbles, and each time, I've said how great the room is, and they really were, but I always like to try new places. The room space was ample enough to set up a travel crib if you have a one year old like I do. The moment we walked in the room and saw the view (Room 203, upstairs middle) our jaws dropped as you could see the ocean from the extremely large back door. The room was extremely large with plenty of space for walking around and the two indoor lounge chairs for when its nippy outside you can relax indoors and still enjoy the ocean. Why only 4 stars? The only down fall was the ants we had in the room that seemed to be mostly in the bathroom, but they seemed to move around the room if you had something on the floor and moved the ants moved also. They were like tiny kitchen ants but they were all over the sink and we had to move towels and leave our bathroom items out on the table and for the view we just put up with them. Staff tried getting rid of them but they never left. On our next trip we will still request upstairs ocean view!! What a location!! Clean, relaxing, clean. Request one of the five upper level ocean view rooms. Worth every penny to have the ocean practically inside. Rooms are spacious, with gas fireplace as primary heat source (on thermostat). We slept so well. Also, THIS PLACE IS SPOTLESS. They take cleaning seriously here, including care for the glass balconies. Continental breakfast was simple but satisfying. Outside is the ocean-front boardwalk and perfect for multiple daily strolls. Downtown Cambria is a little farther (+/-0.9mi), but walkable. Highly recommend. read more

I can't believe there is a better spot to stay in Cambria. The location is perfect for gorgeous views of the sea. Lucky for us, we reserved a room in the front, which must have been the best one in terms of views and privacy, room 201, although any along the front would be great. The room is huge, includes a mini fridge, small microwave and a coffee maker. There is a large dining table with 4 comfortable chairs. There are also 2 large comfy leather chairs with a foot stool, perfect if it is a bit nippy to sit outside but still catch the amazing views. The king sized bed is super comfy. This room has a large whirlpool tub. There is a fireplace in the room. And, directly across the street is where the locals surf, so we spent a lot of time watching them. One morning a dolphin joined them for a few minutes! A few words about the Covid precautions they are taking: The office where you check in is limited to one person at a time. Check out and any room service you need is done over the phone. No daily cleaning, no whirlpool, no breakfast. The room was very clean with extra sheets over the mattress, over the comforter and so on. The walls of the room facing the ocean are mostly huge windows, but there are great black out shades. Also an excellent screen in the sliding glass door if you want some air but don't want to keep the door open. I hope to return to this exact room for another relaxing stay in Cambria in the future! read more

Currently staying here. The location is right fronting the beach, sunsets are amazing. The room is in decent size, sheets are freshly washed. We got the partial ocean view room, it has a microwave and a mini fridge so convenient for those who love to gos. We bought some munchies and packed salads and just throw them to the fridge. The bathroom is a tub combined shower, not a fan, I would rather separate them. Fireplace is electric and I have no Complains. Overall the room is cozy and well kept. Ocean view room is double the price of a partial view like... literally. Parking is bad, we drive an outback and compact parking is a challenge. That's just it. Otherwise, we are enjoying the stay. read more

I've stayed at over a dozen places in Cambria and all of them have pros and cons. Moonstone Landing has been the best place I've stayed at so far and honestly don't have any cons. Perfect view, excellent service, huge spotless room, huge spotless bathroom, big flat screen TV, great service. It's adjacent to the Sea Chest restaurant. I've stayed all over Moonstone Beach and even though every hotel is right on the water not every "ocean view" is the same. Some hotels have parking lots right in front of your view or there's a giant tree. Here it's 100% unobstructed beauty. This is the first hotel I've stayed at with hardwood floors. No mysterious stains in the carpet just shiny floors that were cleaned daily. I even dropped something and had to look under the bed and there wasn't a dust bunny in sight. The room had black-out accordion style blinds too which were a nice touch. Patio door was screened with a broom stick to lock it in place if you wanted to leave it open a crack at night to hear the ocean. The bathroom was gigantic with a HUGE walk-in shower and a HUGE Jacuzzi tub. Like the rest of the room it was spotless. No nasty mildew or old nasty caulking. They have a continental breakfast in the morning but since I didn't want to waste the calories I never once visited it. I did though take advantage of their free coffee which was available until 8pm. They also have stemware for red wine, white wine, and champagne in a cabinet above the coffee. We drank wine on our porch every night so it was much appreciated! Parking was never an issue and the free wi-fi was decent. I've been coming to Cambria for at least 18 years now and every time I visit I pick a new place to stay. I think I'll be stopping that habit and stick with Moonstone Landing. It was truly the perfect stay! read more

The customer service at this location was so mindblowingly awful. If they did not like the price that I got for the hotel room online they did not have to put me into the worst room possible then tell me that I'm LUCKY to have gotten in at all. Especially after I was trying to see if I can do an upgrade. But I guess I should be grateful that I have a room there at all. They then proceeded to tell me that I could cancel right then and there if I wanted to... wow! So because you guys are not making your commission or enough money on the room you want me to cancel?? Got it. Corporate needs to be involved in this one & class it up a bit really trashy attitudes! read more
