Excellent property management company assistance The house I…read morerented was in a very convenient location in the town of Cambria and centered between Morro Bay and Ragged Point allowing for tons of beautiful area to explore. Due to a circumstance beyond the property managements (Scenic Coast Property Management) control I needed to be relocated. Valerie was in touch with me immediately and not only gave me four different homes to choose from, but she actually took the time to speak to me about each individual house and made sure I picked the right one for rest of my vacation needs. The house they moved me into was an upgrade as well and I was not charged extra for it. It's nice to know that I can depend on someone like Valerie and SCPM to be there if needed. I will definitely be using their services whenever I visit the central coast.

I was in the area for a wedding and decided to rent a pet-friendly bungalow, as opposed to a hotel…read moreor motel. One of the problems when staying with dogs at a hotel is that, at least with my dogs, they tend bark at every little noise. With people checking in at all hours of the day, this can become annoying. So I figured staying in a small bungalow would be a good fit. Not only would did it have it's own private backyard for them to run around in, I could also kick back and do a BBQ. Doing an online search for pet-friendly places I stumbled upon Cambria Beach Bungalow, which is managed by the Blue Whale Inn in Cambria. Looking at the photos, I decided to stay there. Although expensive, I really enjoyed my stay here. It's about a block away from the Beach, so it was real easy to walk the dogs down there. The interior is country home kitsch, it has two bedrooms and some fold out couches in the living room where you can accommodate more guest. The main drag to Cambria is less than a mile so it's easy to get supplies there. The backyard has a nice garden and plenty of room to run for small dogs. There is a fence to hold the dogs in, but a larger athletic dog should be able to jump it if they had the urge. They have a charcoal BBQ in the back yard , so I went to Soto's Market in Cambria and purchased some grass-fed Hearst Ranch rib-eyes and hamburger to grill. Mighty tasty! I enjoyed my stay at the Cambria Beach Bungalow as did my dogs. You do pay a pet fee as well as a cleanup fee so it does get expensive, but hey, once in a while I will splurge for the pets.

For $350+ a night, I expected a little more. The room looked…read moredecent enough at first, but the strong musty smell and stained carpet quickly changed that impression. We were also tucked way in the back in a dark corner of the property, which wasn't exactly inviting. Then the little things started adding up. The shower curtain rod was pulling out of the wall, the wallpaper around the shower was loose from moisture, and the ice bucket still had trash from the previous guest in it. At that point, it starts to feel less like an older coastal hotel and more like nobody is really checking the rooms. The pool was half empty with green water sitting at the bottom. Maybe it was under repair, but it definitely wasn't usable. Housekeeping is another strange setup. If you want your room cleaned, you have to request it the day before, and then repeat that request every day. You can't just ask for service for your whole stay. At check-in we were told they used to offer complimentary breakfast, but the new company stopped. The alternative was to walk down the street to another hotel and pay about $20. The next morning my wife went for hot water for tea and they were out. The suggestion was to use the coffee maker in the room. That works, I suppose, if you like your tea with a little coffee flavor. The guy at the front desk wasn't rude, but his attitude was very much, "it is what it is." And to be fair, I've stayed in worse places. The difference is, those places usually charged a lot less. For $350+ a night, FogCatcher is asking you to overlook quite a bit.
