Found this place so I booked a room and though let's try it out. Its cute right off main street. Easy walking to local places. It was quiet and the room was clean and comfortable. Host was polite and friendly when you asked questions. Its all single level and has a shower only which works great for me. We really enjoyed our stay and plan to stay again in the future. The office space seemed very small but just check in and your done. Looking forward to more stays in the future. read more

My fiancé and I stayed here the weekend of April 11th-13th and we had a wonderful experience! The owner was very sweet and made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Each room had a vanity separate from the bathroom (which I loved since it made doing my makeup a little more fun) and each bed had a Magic Fingers Massager attached! It was relaxing to use at the end of the day, and I'm glad that the owners have kept the nostalgic device to this day. For an Inn at this price, I TOTALLY LOVE IT. It's NOT a Marriott or Hilton, so don't expect that. However, the place is super clean, the furniture and rooms are updated, the Inn is walking distance to all the shops and restaurant, and the place is run by the nicest person. When I come back to Morro Bay in the future, I totally would stay here for several days. We stayed at this cute little motel 2 weeks ago. I don't know what took so long to write the review. We loved our stay and will be again. It's very cute, quiet, clean, walking distance to the water, views of the bay and Morro Rock. You can hear the sea lions from your room and the owners are so sweet. This is a motel, but steps above your typical roadside motel. But it does provide the basic amenities you need in accommodations, including a microwave, fridge, cable tv, and a small seating area to eat or sit and relax. Furnishings are a bit dated, but perfectly fine. You also get free parking. No pool, breakfast, or wine hour or anything like that, though. What I love about this place is the owner keeps the rooms scrupulously clean. She also works the front desk and is super friendly and helpful. I also love the motel"s proximity to numerous dining options within walking distance, including the waterfront embarcadero and Morro Rock. My only issue was the pillow top bed was a bit too soft and slightly lumpy, and pillows were too flat for us, but totally serviceable. This will be our go to place for Morro Bay from now on. read more

I use Yelp and Tripadvisor extensively when picking out hotels and was excited to see this as one of the very few 4.5 star rated places in Morro Bay. BUT...keep in mind this is a one story MOTEL! PROS: -Clean room and clean bathroom, surprisingly for a motel! -Quiet location -3-5min walk to the waterfront's shops and restaurants. -Free Parking -One of the highest rated places in Morro Bay CONS: -It is a "Motel", cars and people will be right outside your door. -Saturday night rate of $220/night(inc taxes) is a ripoff for you get. I'm sure the weekday rate is much more reasonable. -Thin walls, as in any older motel. -If you're looking for a "romantic" getaway, this is not it. I would've given this a 5 Star if it was $150 or less. read more

Clean and well-run no frills motel run by a Mom-and-Pop team. They take excellent care of you at a budget price. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathrooms are spotless! We arrived at the last minute after we found that our reservation at the Embassy Suite in San Luis Obispo was by a fraudster agent who had scammed others. The Embassy Suites told us that the only room they had was 3x what we thought we had reserved. It was late and we were tired but we began calling places and the Sundown Inn at Morro Bay had a vacancy. The ordeal turned out to be a blesssing! We got a much better deal than what Embassy Suites could offer. Also the next morning, we explored Morro Bay and found a comfy beach town with some really nice places to eat. If we ever come back to SLO or Morro Bay, this is probably where we will check first. read more

The reviews are accurate - this small, family-run hotel is a great place to stay in Morro Bay. I had a King bed room which included plenty of space for storage (large dresser and walk in closet). The high vaulted ceilings add comfort and are just nice to look at. The bed is comfy, the room is warm and cozy, and most importantly, the entire place is squeaky clean! I only stayed a night so I did not get the chance to settle in very much, but everything was so seamless I just had to write this recommendation. One piece of advice if you're staying in this area generally and are arriving late at night, call ahead and let them know. We knew we would arrive after 10 pm, so we called and they kindly left our key ready for us for seamless entry, that way we could just check in the following morning. It has all the conveniences you will need - incredibly clean room and bathroom, big tv, parking, wifi, and a friendly staff. If I visit Morro Bay again I will come back here. read more

Ann & her Husband have owned there little boutique hotel for 40 years. They both came from Thailand to the USA . This is what the American Dream is all about. A cute, cozy and clean motel just a short walk away from restaurants and shops. We were on a road trip and wanted to stop somewhere cheap and comfortable on the way. Sundown Inn was perfect for that. We had a double room, the beds were nice and comfy. One of them had "magic fingers" where for a quarter you can get vibrated for 15min. There is a coffee machine, microwave, free WiFi, cable tv and a small fridge. Also a small dining table with comfy chairs and cute tea cups. The cupboard is big and deep so you can hide bags out of the way. Plus an ice machine full of ice outside. Overall a very good stop in a cute town with a vibrating bed. read more

The Sun Down Inn is an awesome place to stay while visiting Morro Bay! I stayed here for a weekend and really enjoyed my stay. The vintage style décor is adorable and the room was exceptionally clean! I find it easiest to list the pros and cons when reviewing hotel rooms. I went on a west coast road trip with friends from Seattle down to California and we stayed at various places from camp sites to motels, etc. I wanted to specifically recommend this place to everyone - the reviews speak for themselves but the owner of this place is incredibly nice and it offers parking, wifi, and the rooms are clean. The owner noticed it was for three people and immediately came over to our room to give us an extra set of towels and then proceeded to share how it can get cold and how there is an AC that can be used to heat the room and warm us up. In general - I really enjoyed staying here and if I ever am in the area again I'll be coming back. read more

This is a very nice motel, with clean, charming rooms, and a very nice couple who runs it. This is not luxury, but a comfortable, very reasonably priced place to stay if you're taking advantage of all the great things to do in Morro Bay and the surrounding area. There was a larger-then-most-motels refrigerator (with a small freezer), a small microwave, and a simple coffee maker. A large tv with plenty of channels. Parking right outside your room, and a good location- 2 short blocks to downtown. The proprietors were extremely sweet and helpful. Definitely recommend, and will return. read more

I'm rounding up from 2 stars, based soley on the cheap rate for staying here. We spent two nights here, and while it was okay, I can't say I'd stay here again. Cramped room, small bathroom, and wi-fi was intermittent. However, you get coffee in the room, and there's a small fridge. Dealing with the owners (parents) on the phone and upon check-in was fine....however having to communicate with the son on site was strained and unpleasant. read more

Great stay for our first time in Morro Bay. Ann and her family have a classic beachside motel that was very clean, comfy, well-kept and visually appealing. The room wasn't 'modern' yet had everything we needed... coffeemaker, fridge, decent bed, luxe towels and a nice bathroom with a fully-tiled shower. The sailing-themed wall mural was retro-cool, and the nicely-finished open-beam ceiling was a plus. Ann was so nice and fun to interact with, even while she was working hard cleaning the rooms and getting them ready for the arriving guests. I have to admit it, I've never stayed in a motel. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing but nonetheless kinda shocking. I stay in hotels all the time but this was my first experience in a motel. Motels have a reputation of being cheap and dirty but that's certainty not the case here! Especially during COVID-19, a clean place to stay is a must, and the Sundown Inn delivers on that promise. The Sundown Inn is located in a great part of Morro Bay and you can even see Morro Rock poking out in the distance. The place is owned by one family, they are so sweet and thoughtful and seemed very happy to own and manage the motel. They take great care of the property too, and it shows. The room was spotless and felt very clean. I can't wait to visit the Sundown Inn again soon the next time I come out to Morro Bay! read more

The owner (lovely lady) was wonderful, welcoming and very helpful with anything we needed. The motel is clean and quiet and the magic fingers for the bed actually worked. I did have to tap the top of the machine after I put in the quarter to get it to work but after that it worked great. We stayed in room A. We will most definitely be back as it's so close to the school our son will be attending. I also forgot to add that the water is soft water so you hair won't be a total rats nest and the soap they provide for you is wonderful gentle soap that softens your skin nicely and worked great for my face since I forgot my makeup eraser towel. read more

Very small but quaint motel. I was apprehensive about how close the rooms are but the neighbors were all very respectful and quiet. Only draw back is the guy who wanted coffee at 5:45am and fired up his car right in front of our door. Super clean rooms and bathrooms. I spent one night here by myself on a Saturday night and was quoted $250 plus taxes the total was $296. A little pricy but I couldn't find any other hotels. Everything was booked. It was a small room, nicely decorated, no bath (only shower), quiet. You can't book online. You have to call for the price. I was going to stay on Memorial Day but cancelled but she quoted me $220/night for Memorial Day weekend. I'm not sure why she charged me so much for one night. Also the air conditioner didn't work very well so I don't think it was worth the price. read more

Very clean cozy room for a low price. Stayed here for $90 total on a thursday night. Very clean with abundant parking. Although it looks old and run down on the outside, the rooms have been renovated. Cool electronic remote for the AC/cooler. Funky 80's decor. Feels more like you are in an 80's motel than anything. My most favorite feature: the sinks dont have that nasty black full of mold hole in the bathroom sink! That shit is so gross i have to put a towel over it before i can brush my teeth. Otherwise it makes me gag. This place doesnt have that. 10 stars just for that!! read more

Day two of our spontaneous bday weekend getaway we found ourselves back in Paso Robles for a little wine tasting on our way back home from Pismo. We were on a super tight budget but really wanted just one more day to relax before facing reality. So I hopped online to look for a room. Completely disappointed to find absolutely no available rooms in Paso with the exception of one scary dive that the winery owner strongly suggested we not stay at, and the $300 room at the Marriott which was WAY out of our budget. I was determined to find something though so kept looking. Cambria? Booked. Morro Bay? SCORE! We'd never been to this part of the coast so off we went on the next part of our adventure. 5 Star "Motel" with only one $? Totally apprehensive probably because of the picture of the "magic fingers" box next to the but but called and booked it. 40 minutes later we arrived and were pleasantly surprised. The owner who checked us in was very sweet and suggested a few local restaurants for dinner. We ended up at Fish Bonez which was AMAZING! Read my review on that because it truly should not be missed. Anyway, cute well maintained motel right off Main Street and within walking distance to great little shops, pubs and restaurants and a 5 minute walk to all the waterfront activity. This of course is where you can find Fish Bonez! Shameless plug I know. Our room was exactly like the picture showed. Small and pretty dated but super clean and comfortable. There was no air so it got a little stuffy at night and the TV remote didn't seem to work so great but who cares. The bathroom was small but in great condition with fantastic water pressure. Walls were a tad thin but our neighbors were quite. This little gem is perfect for couples on a budget! We'd totally stay here again. read more

If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Morro Bay, this is it! I wasn't wanting to spend 300$ a night. I wanted someplace affordable so I could spend the money on food and entertainment instead. It's not right in the center of town. It's not too far from all the shops and restaurants though. It took me about 5-7 minutes to walk down there. But I was also taking my leisurely time. When we pulled up I wasn't too sure what we were in for. When you walk in to the very tiny office a very nice older Asian lady greets you. I think her and her husband work this whole place. I noticed that they don't use a computer, old style reservation books here. I haven't seen that in years. She was very welcoming and explained that we are in a room next to ice machine. We were told if we wanted to take a daytime nap she would turn it off. So it would not bother us. I thought that was nice. She also said it would be turned off at 8pm. When we returned it was off like she said it would be. The room is small, had a double bed and twin. Small fridge, tv, little table with two chairs. The bathroom is tiny but it worked for us. It also has a closet with a dresser in it. I was happy that it was hardwood floors and not nasty carpet. The room is very clean, you can tell they work really hard to keep the place up. I went out to have coffee and shop some. When I returned the owner was outside, she came running over to make sure I was happy. She also offered to get me more towels. She is friendly and really cares about your comfort. The only complaint was you can hear everything the neighbors are doing. It can be kinda annoying. I felt like I had to talk really low so nobody could hear me. This is an older place so not much you can do about that. The place is well maintained, beautiful succulents all around the property. I would definitely stay again if I was in town. WiFi is not so good here. But it won't stop me from staying here again. read more

We made a last minute decision to come to Morro Bay for an overnight stay to celebrate our 39th anniversary. So glad we found this little diamond. The room was spotless. The amenities perfect. Nothing that wasn't just what we needed. The staff is kind and informative. We couldn't say too much about this little hideaway just a block or two away and easy walking distance from the main area along the Embarcadero. We'd recommend the Galley for dinner (worth the wait) as well as Dorn's for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be coming back. read more

People, listen up!!!! If you need an inexpensive getaway near the beach.... THIS MOTEL IS FOR YOU!!! All the great reviews can't possibly be true, right?? Wrong! This IS a great bargain. The rooms ARE super clean, the beds ARE super comfy and the rooms ARE small but adequate! No lies here!!! We spent less than $50 per night. The place was super quiet, which I didn't think was going to be possible considering the parking area is in the middle of the little complex. But we slept very well all night long. The room had a wall heater and a neat digital a/c unit, both worked nicely. I had the plague that was going around and had chills but was able to stay comfortable. The staff is awesome. They're constantly cleaning and fixing things; upkeep is a noticeable priority. When we were there they were fixing cracks in the parking lot. This motel is right in the heart of Morro Bay. We had a view of the rock from our front door. My husband walked to the a little north of the motel, a block or two... Got me coffee at a coffee shop me every morning. You just can not beat this place if you're not set on a luxury stay. It's simple, clean, convenient and inexpensive. There's also a grocery store a few blocks away.
