We absolutely love Gray's Inn. They are friendly, have nice beds, TVs, full kitchens, and decks with amazing views. While we love supporting local places by going out to eat, it is also a perfect place to make your own dinner, put the umbrella up on the patio table, and enjoy dinner on your deck. It is also great for morning coffee and watching the boats go out for the day. They stock coffee and tea in the kitchen, but there is also a little coffee shop next door. I love going over, grabbing a Mexican Mocha and a bagel, and sitting outside in the morning. A couple of things worth noting are that Units A and B share a deck with only a partial separation, which opens up the view of the bay for both units. There is one regular parking spot and one handicapped spot, but three rooms, so someone has to park on the street. However, parking is free and unlimited, so that wasn't an issue for us. Things are quiet a good amount of the time, but it is on the Embarcadero, so it can also be noisy from the restaurants nearby at times. It is further down from the busiest part of the Embarcadero, so things aren't crazy down here. Still, it is only a one-mile walk--or a three-minute drive--to the Rock, and the cute little movie theater is just half a mile away alongside countless shops off the Embarcadero. Everything is within easy walking distance. If you want to stay in, the couch is a futon, and my son says it isn't too uncomfortable to sleep on. We all fight over who sits in the armchair--it is a perfect reading chair. We highly recommend staying here. We stayed here for a week last summer and this summer. read more

This place is amazing. This is my second time visiting this year and again, I'm not disappointed. It is a small inn with 3 rooms. Each room (some one bedroom, one a studio) comes with a fully stocked kitchen, which is great for breakfasts and snacks. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The deck is amazing! It has multiple chairs and tables with the bay literally feet away. I've enjoyed drinking my coffee on the deck, watching otters in the bay, and boats coming in and out. The downtown area starts next door. All shops and restaurants are within walking distance, a major plus! Lots of adorable shops and delicious places to eat. It is very quiet and relaxing here. The owner is kind and takes great pride in his inn. He personally shows you the room, all the features it has to offer, and provides maps for things to do in the area. Also, this trip occurred during COVID. Masks are required in all shops. Patio dining is available at most locations (with the view that's really where you want to be seated anyways!). Everyone was compliant with wearing masks, even on the streets, which made me feel extra safe traveling during COVID. I highly recommend this place!! "The hidden secret of California" This was one of the nicest, most pleasant and peaceful stays I've ever had anywhere. There are only 3 rooms in this hotel so definitely plan ahead if you want to enjoy what we got too. The room is spacious, very nicely put together, high end king bed, 2 nice leather recliners, a huge deck over looking the bay. Had a full kitchen for the longer stays. No matter were you are sitting or laying in this suite you will always have an amazing view of the bay! The hole side facing the bay is glass with 2 ways to go in and out from the deck. The owner treated us as if he had known us a lifetime. Dont miss out on staying at this wonderful gem hidden in Morro Bay California. I would recommend atleast a week it's a truly amazing place with many things to do. read more

Todd, our host, welcomed us and even helped us get situated in our room. The only downside I can think of is they have a pretty slow internet connection. We enjoy the inn very much. Nice location friendly owners! We just visited for our anniversary. Our silver anniversary, 25 years! I love thé set up and I love the location. It's quiet generally and it's right on the water looking out at boats and people watching. The kitchen has most things needed pots, pans, dishes utensils coffee maker etc. We love to cook and have meals out on the deck while watching the water and the sailboats. There is a kayak/boat rental next door and we enjoyed taking a kayak out also. We road our bikes and we were able to keep them on the deck. Walking distance from shops and restaurants. Great spot for a 7 night stay away from the stress of our jobs. It's like going to a second home. The bed is super cozy and the couch is a pull out also. Couch although a pull out very comfy. We walked and purchased lobster tails and had a romantic evening on the deck. The inn is a smaller one, meaning, only 4 rooms/apartments, but it doesn't lack charm. There are plenty of towels blankets pillows and well privacy. We have gone to this location several times and it does not disappoint! Thank you Grays Inn for yet another wonderful anniversary, we will be back. read more

We have stayed at Grays Inn many times, as it is one of our very favorite places. It is very clean, well appointed with kitchen items, and the beds and recliners are very comfortable. The view is spectacular! We can see Morro Rock from the bed, and we enjoy watching the otters, sea lions and birds. Todd is a friendly host who is helpful without invading our privacy. Took the girlfriend on an anniversary trip and was floored by how beautiful our room was. Walking distance to almost anything you'd need (food, drinks, activities, beach, hiking). I spent ample time out on our own private deck over looking the water, watching boats pass, jet skiers, paddle boarders, taking in the sunset, and fully relaxing. Todd, the owner, is especially helpful when it comes to knowing the area. He had excellent recommendations for where to dine, drink, and have fun. My husband and I had a wonderful time. Todd and his wife were great and very informative. The room was beautifully decorated. We loved the view!!! I can not wait to go there again. The refrigerator unit is a little noisy and on Sunday the foot traffic to the kayak rental place, which is below the balcony, is a little noisy but it gave us quite some entertainment. Monday was a quite day and compared to some other waterfront places, this is a great value. I would recommend the unit C which has a private balcony and unobstructed view of Morro Bay Rock. read more

In Morro Bay, we spent the night at Gray's Inn, a family owned and operated bayfront inn and art gallery that features work from multiple central coast artists, and of course the unmistakable style of beautiful paintings and prints produced by the late local artist Robert Gray. The inn has 3 units and we stayed in the upstairs 'C' unit. It's a studio apartment. Huge comfortable king size bed, seating, cable tv, full kitchen, bathroom and a large private deck/balcony (shared balcony downstairs, but bigger 1 bedroom units) and very clean. Woke up in the morning, looked out the window and saw Morro rock. Beautiful! Excellent host! He is very personable, warm and friendly. Good taste in music too, imo. All around cool dude. Makes you feel welcome and right at home. Even the cleaning lady is awesome! We chatted with her a bit in the morning. 10/10 would stay there every time. read more

We've stayed at the Inn many times over the past 25 years. We remember Mr. Gray painting in his studio and also checking us in! It's charm is its old authentic feel and proximity to all of the Bay's organic life. While on your deck expect to watch Otters, Seals, Egrets, Herons and Pelicans. The Morro Rock is so close it's almost a religious experience. You will hear the seals, at the nearby "Aquarium", bark all day. Enjoy it while it lasts - sadly they will soon close. A few years back Mr. Gray passed and Todd bought the property. It was just wonderful to hear him tell of his many years staying there before he bought it. He too felt the magic. Todd has made some nice updates (new beds being the best!) but he remains committed to keeping it like it was.... authentic. If you're looking for one of a kind, and authentic Morro Bay, look no further. read more

This place has incredible view. My friend and I stayed at this lovely Inn and loved it! There are only three suites here, two downstairs with bedrooms and a smaller studio upstairs. We stayed in one of the larger units downstairs. We were greeted by a sign on the door with our name, and the keys waiting for us on the kitchen table. What we found was a cute apartment with a wooden deck where you can relax and watch the marine life (seals, pelicans etc) playing in the water very close to your porch. It was a very relaxing one night stay. Each room has a kitchen as well. It is not a fancy hotel but very comfortable. I highly recommend it for tourists and romantic getaway. read more

A hidden treasure that will only be around for a short time longer. Only three units, all with great views of the bay and harbor. Units have living rooms, kitchens, and decks over looking the boats and water. This is a old school artist funky place, so if your use to the Hilton or Marriott--if your a yuppy--you will probably not like this place. read more

I didn't give it five stars because this place isn't for everyone. As another reviewer stated, if you are the Marriott crowd, stay away. If you want a quaint (yes, I realize this word is over-used) little getaway, this is the place. It's usually reserved months in advance, so if you're interested in this place, book as soon as you can. Three units, behind an art gallery featuring one of the most talented watercolor artists I have had the pleasure of seeing. I have several of his originals, and just bought a print on this trip. Three units. Full kitchens. No maid service. No ice machine. Just the most spectacular view in all of Morro Bay (been coming up here for almost 40 years). I'm surprised with all the development on the waterfront that this place has survived. read more

Amazing place to stay! We were very lucky that there was a room left since we just saw it driving by. The owner is super nice and helpful. The view is spectacular! The one bedroom apartment unit is clean, very nicely decorated, has a full kitchen, has great TVs, and is just all around wonderful. The outside deck was surprisingly warm and free of wind and is quite spacious and has two lounge chairs and a cute table with an umbrella. The deck is a great place to watch the sunset. It truly is a wonderful and quaint place to stay. I would highly recommend staying here if there is vacancy. read more

Fantastic view, super clean rooms, friendly staff. In addition to what is already posted is the fact that the manager went out of his way to return some clothing that got buried in the sheets we took off the bed. He called, and offered to box them up and bring them to the post office. I considered this way beyond the call of normal service. I don't know when I will go to Morro Bay again, but when/if I do, this is where I will try to stay. read more
