Walls are extremely thin! If you book I highly recommend making sure you'll be in a top floor room. We checked into a bottom level room and the noise from above was the worst I had ever heard. Talking, music, steps, tv. We could hear everything. The front desk agent very kindly moved us to a room on the top floor before he left for the night. It was a LOT better to not have noise from above, but we could still hear everything in the room next to us. It's centrally located, which is nice. Staff was accommodating. The lobby and exterior of the buildings are so cute. But for $200/night, which is what I paid for a weekend, I'd probably opt to stay somewhere with thicker walls. read more

Bluebird Inn is a historic motel seemingly from the era of motor lodges and early car travel in CA, like many motels in small beachside communities along the coast. The historic main house is restored and the rooms seemingly have been recently renovated and well maintained. For the most important features of any hotel/motel: the mattress on the bed did not hurt our backs. They seem to have the CA low flow "no go" shower heads, but these are counterbalanced by good water pressure. The water temperature on both the sink and the shower has to main settings: burn your face off and freeze your shorts off and are very sensitive to but possible to get the sweet spot in between where the water is just the right temperature. Very importantly, it was super quiet during the night with no street noise, just like when we first moved to the country many years ago. The motel is conveniently located within walking and/or short driving distance to several local restaurants and also trails. Some of the properties in the area are in disrepair, but the overall community seems reasonably safe and lives up to its reputation for beautiful scenery. The parking lot as the historic somewhat small spaces and lot, but there is sufficient parking for the number of rooms. Overall, better than motel 6 and at the higher end of cheap motels. If you can get a good deal like we did on this trip, this is definitely a nice place for a restful trip. read more

Check in was fine, but everything went downhill from there. Room was filthy. Sheets, blanket, pillowcases soiled. Some trash found in a bed table. There wasn't even a phone in the room for emergencies. I was in room seven, which is a handicapped accessible room and was completely rundown. Very poor pressure in the shower and the unit above me for the two nights I was there was extremely noisy and stomping around past midnight. When I use my own cell phone to complain to the front desk we were told there was a family reunion and there was nothing they could do but offer me ear plugs. Totally unacceptable response and I did not feel valued at all. A terrible experience and I would never stay here again. read more

Crazy frustrating for me as a first timer where an Inn closes at 9pm. Coming from LAX... Plus rental car place.. no way could I make it on time for 9... But... Just let them know you will be late... Arrangements are made in that case. I worried too much about that for nothing. I hauled my luggage up a steep flight of stairs. No one running above me as it's 2 story but the walls here are super thin. I could hear every word of my neighbour next door ... I just put the tv on. There is an area if you must smoke... In the middle where there is a little seating area. It's cute. My view out back from my room... Not good. But that's someone else's junk and not their property. Inside reception by day.. board games. Fireplace. So cute and clean with a grab and go cold breakie and coffee/tea. Parking was tight... Mid May.. I think I got the last spot that night The room has a fridge but no microwave. Shower... Beyond basic with no tub sadly but it did the job and for the price and staff... I think I'd stay here again and recommend. It's not the Ritz but I like supporting family owned businesses. read more

THE WORST! When making the reservation I requested ground level and got email confirmation for that request. When checking in they didn't have ground level available. I showed her the email confirmation she said sorry but I don't have a ground level available. No accommodations whatsoever. Being upstairs you can hear people walking and talking from next door and down stairs. The dresser drawers kept opening up when you walked by it. No closet. Room needs help. Needs a serious make over. Needs new drywall paint flooring and furniture and lighting. Bed had a dip in it right in the middle. It wasn't a good experience at all. Giving it a minus -100. Cute hotel on Main Street. Room was a bit small and yet roomy. Very clean. I didn't smell cigarette smoke. Very clean restroom and shower. Room had a microwave and mini fridge that wasn't so mini. Also had a coffee machine. Medium size tv mounted on wall. Small closet with luggage rack. A short walk to the east side of town. Took us 15 minutes to walk there. And only 2 minutes to walk the other way towards JJ's Pizza. The registration desk employee was lovely. She was very sweet & informative. Suggested places to eat & things to do. There is no pool or jacuzzi on site. However there is a big firepitt at the front of the hotel. Many guests including myself gathered in the evening. The Inn is small but the grounds are clean. Looks renovated. We had no issues during our visit Will definitely stay there again. read more

As many of you know, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. This year was especially exciting because I decided to spend it in the little village of Cambria on the California coast. They have a Scarecrow Festival where residents and businesses create spooky, silly, fun scarecrows and compete for the best. I also thought it would be fun to see all of the children dressed up and trick-or-treating. I chose the Bluebird Inn because of its location to the area of town where walking is easier than driving. They also have a nice forest area behind them for lovely walks. After checking into my room on October 29th, I wanted to get into the Halloween spirit, so I decorated my hotel room window with a dragon holding a solar lantern, a small pumpkin and some pumpkin lights. My room had a table and chairs on the porch, so I made some sugar water, filled my hummingbird feeder and put it on the table. I didn't think anyone would mind. I settled in to watch Game 3 of the World Series and was impressed with the softness of the bed. Drifting off to sleep after the game was easy. Around 1am, things took a dark turn. Someone broke into my room, tasered and beat me. I woke up in so much pain and took videos of my injuries. Somewhat in shock, I packed my things, told management of the assault and checked out. They asked why I didn't call them and said they would have called the police. I assumed they would do it at that time so the police could conduct a thorough and timely investigation, looking at the room and speaking to witnesses. They didn't. Instead, they sent me an email saying they would conduct their own investigation and let me know the results. I immediately filed a police report in Monterey County not knowing that Cambria is in SLO County. They sent me an email asking me to contact SLO instead. I sent a copy of that report to hotel management. That's when I found out they didn't contact the police until after the room had been cleaned and potential witnesses had left. Then they accused me of fabricating this assault, even though I have video of the injuries, including the taser burn. I understand that something like this is bad for business, but it's worse to treat me badly after this experience. It took me days to stop crying and now I have to fight with the hotel to get a refund for even the two days I didn't stay there, let alone the night that I was assaulted. They should be ashamed of themselves for not doing everything possible to help law enforcement find the person or people who did this. They should be ashamed of themselves for calling me a liar instead of helping me to heal and get justice. Hopefully they'll read this and think about what they can do to help me instead of continuing to cause me more grief. As people, we are often judged by how we respond in extreme situations. The Bluebird Inn has shown their true colors. read more

Check in was easy and friendly. Parking was easy. Coffee and granola bars in the lobby in the morning. Fire pit. Fireplace in the lobby with some toys for kids. All of it was good and easy. Room was updated. Plenty of outlets for charging. There were two things that aren't complaints, just preferences: it's a standing shower, which means water gets all over the floor, which drives me nuts (and it's hard to bathe young kids without a tub), and there's no A/C, which means you leave your windows open to cool off, which works well, but everyone who walks by your room (which is a lot of people since the parking is motel-style) can hear every word you say, and you them. For families with young children like us, we had to worry a lot about our kids being too loud, or crying, or being woken up by someone unlocking or locking their car, etc. Next time we'll ask for a room further in the back. We will definitely be back! read more

Great place to stay! This place is in a fantastic location, walking distance to the Main Street here. ( it is surprisingly quiet considering it's right off the main road). The rooms are super clean, the bed is comfortable and the staff are very friendly. I felt very comfortable here, I could feel myself relax completely. They do not have a/c like many of the places here don't as they usually are not needed so keep that in mind if you are someone who needs cold air constantly, they do have a heater and a ceiling fan. They also provide secure wifi. There's a pretty garden in the back and a creek. There's a lot of history in Cambria, this inn is no exception. I would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Cambria whether it's your first time or your 20th time. I hope to stay here again in the future! read more

For what it is in its "hotel category" (so to speak) The Bluebird Inn is a great stop in Cambria. The lobby building is a big, old-style room with a warm, welcoming vibe. We lucked out getting a room that faced the creek in the back, and as you can see, I really recommend it because not only does it cut down on the noise, but you also get this great view and a very serene spot for breakfast or cocktails. It's practically another room! Inside the amenities were fine - our room had a gas fireplace which was nice for the cool evenings. Some of it was a touch outdated but I'm willing to overlook that when you consider the surroundings, helpful staff, and location to other places in Cambria. Based on the room and upgrades, I would have given them a four star. Looking at the old pictures from 6 years ago, the owners have made a lot of improvements to the place. This is also why they charge more. The first room we were given was very plain and boring, similar to the other reviews with only a full bed for two full sized adults. I think not! We chose to upgrade and were given a lovely, charming room more of what was expected. It had an updated bathroom, 2 queen beds, little kitchen nook, a fireplace and best of all a patio overlooking the creek. Underneath was unused units it seemed. This is the best part of the inn and recommend they work on this area to maintain it and update the units underneath to be used by someone. Unfortunately during our stay, they had a gas leak in one of the buildings which left us without heat and warm shower for the rest of our stay. Our friends who were arriving later in the day were informed prior to us finding this out. I let my husband decide as he is more picky than I am. We choose to stay. The room was cold without the fireplace and the old heater in the room didn't work. We were able to pile on 3 blankets each to stay warm overnight. In the morning, we left early and showered at our friends hotel. I don't blame the inn for what occurred, I'm sure it was out of their control. The inn is very close to the restaurants downtown so that you can walk. I will definitely return and hopefully not encounter the same problems. read more

This is a return trip to Cambria but first time here. The grounds and office are adorable. The actual room is austere and needs charm. Old furniture that matches. Nothing on the walls. Large ceiling fan, good WiFi and the TV WORKS. The shower is nice but no Kleenex if you want to use it. The bed is decent and the old fashioned wall heater works well. I really expected more " cute" and I got adequate. I can live with adequate but I'm here for three days over Thanksgiving at a special restaurant here in town. We drove from Ventura Harbor to be in Cambria for Thanksgiving. It will be fine. read more

It's a simpler aesthetic and that's perfectly fine by me. Check-in and check-out processes were smooth and the premises were clean and functional (with complimentary coffee in the morning to boot). Showers were hot and high pressure, beds were reasonably comfortable, and readily available parking for ease of access to our rooms. The fridge did need to be reset to cool things off so I could use it, but otherwise everything was good in my books. I certainly enjoyed my stay and if I pass by this area again this'll likely be the first place I'll look into. read more

Centrally located in Cambria and the charm of a old style motel I have to say this is now my favorite place to stay in Cambria. The rooms have been modernized while still keeping their motel charm. We had a room with a fireplace and it warms the room on a cold night quite nicely. This is a place where you stay if you want to just relax the lobby has a nice fireplace and plenty of seating and there's an outdoor firepit for when the weather is nicer. Lots of nice shops and food a short walk up from the hotel. I've stayed in a few different places around town and I think we will stick with the Bluebird going forward. read more

Lots of things to appreciate about the Bluebird Inn... the location is FANTASTIC. Easy to walk to the downtown shopping area. Super close to the bus stop for the Cambria Christmas Marketplace light show. Great restaurants nearby. They have an EVgo charging station right in their lot! The outside is charming and very well maintained. The price is beyond reasonable. Given the price, I gave this hotel 5 stars. I would have knocked, off some points if it had been any more expensive since the rooms are shockingly utilitarian. No closet, no clock, no comfy chair, no dresser for the tv (which is mounted REALLY high on the wall and not centered to the bed)... the sounds from the people in the adjoining room were very noticable. Despite the quirks, it's a very comfortable and affordable place to stay. read more
