I am a pub kind of guy! And this one did not disappoint! We came in for dinner after a long day of lounging on a rainy day in December. The pub is located in the basement of the Sudsbury Inn. The pub was crowded, but the atmosphere was laid-back and pretty chill. We were greeted and sat after about 5 minutes. Big wood tables, a large bar in the middle of the space, and a stage and dance floor. We all got drinks. I especially loved the Pabst Blue Ribbon $2.50 draft special! Everyone of the 5 of us enjoyed their meals. We had the baked Haddock (2 orders). Nicely done and served with rice and veggies. (We had one made gluten free without the bread crumbs.) I had the Carnivore pizza. I have to say, I am from NY and a bit of a pizza snob, but the pizza was surprisingly good. The small pie was more than enough for me and to share. Crust was great, perfectly cooked and topped with ham, pepperoni and sausage. We also had the veggie burrito (which was huge and loaded with cheese on the outside!). We added grilled chicken. My son had the haddock sandwich, which he loved and the sweet potato fries, which were excellent. I would have liked a maple dip. The service was excellent and friendly. A live musician played a couple of sets while we were there and we thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, food and atmosphere of the pub. This may become our go to place when we come back! read more

An excellent choice tonight. We Came downstairs to the basement - man cave bar. NO Ada features. We had pulled pork sandwiches and split a Cobb salad. Great choice. Came here tonight as we were vacationing in Bethel this week. So glad we did. Great selection on the menu for almost anyone. I had the chili and my wife had the chowder. Both very good. For meals she had the Cobb salad which she liked. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Again, very good. If you like BBQ sauce, maybe ask for some extra on the side. It was moist, but I should have asked for some extra. My fault, not theirs. The bartender also recommended a great IPA, and was very attentive in spite of covering most of the tables himself. There were very few open options on a Monday night in Bethel, so we took a chance on this place. It's a basement bar around the side of the inn. The stairs inside are a bit treacherous, so be careful if you have mobility issues. There are different sized tables, and we chose a long table for large groups because the place was packed! We later shared the table with another family, which wasn't awkward. Our server was fun, quick, and on top of her game. My dietary requests were honored and respected. If you want ribs, get there early because they sell out quickly! This is definitely a solid Monday night option for dinner. read more

So you can't visit Maine without getting a lobster roll! The town i'm located in, is about an hour from the coast, but I made it my mission to find a lobster roll! So I stopped at Sud's Pub, which is actually located underneath the Sudsbury Inn. Upon walking in, I felt like I had stepped back into the 90's. the bar was hazy, with wooden tables and chairs, and sports playing on the wall mounted flat screen tv's. You pick your own table when you go down. My Waiter was kind and promptly served me as soon as I ordered the lobster roll. Upon coming out, the lobster roll was surrounded by nice crisp toasted bread, and the amount of lobster was abundant! In addition to an abundance of fries. I feasted into it and was overcome with the fresh taste of lobster and the many flavors that came with it, with each and every bite. I was able to relish the sandwich, and the slightly crisp fries as well! I was satisfied, and got my lobster fix! If i'm ever back here, I would like to try their fried haddock and fries! This place is a gem!!! My Husband & I visited Maine for the fall foliage & were staying just 15min from this location. It came highly recommend by the owners of the home we were staying with. It's got such a cozy vibe & low seating bar is unique and comfortable. The bartender & locals were very welcoming. The bartender had some local beer recommendations which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food was absolutely delicious. You MUST try their award winning Clam Chowder, you won't regret it. During our stay in Maine we visited this location twice. We decided to try this place out while we were in town. The pub itself is in the basement. The atmosphere is a typical bar/pub with a restaurant. Our server was very pleasant and did a great job I tried the Clam Chowder soup and my wife tried the French Onion soup; both were pretty good - not great, but definitely good. And this was the only game in town other than the Chinese restaurant or pizza. We weren't sure what we were walking into when we went down the stairs to the basement, but inside there's a large space with a central island bar that you can sit round. The barman was very friendly and chatty, and he produced our fish & chips in short order. He had explained that the fish wasn't in fillets like we would be used to, but instead came in nuggets. Been coming to Bethel for many years (8+) have tried Sud's about 4 times. Every time I have found the place one of the worst places to go in the evening. Because of Covid a lot of places have changed and we thought we should try Sud's again. We can honestly say it's got worse, over priced, service is slow, waited over 45 minutes for a pizza, the beer was extremely expensive $9 for one drink. I believe you could find better atmosphere on the moon. Would of had more fun and better service in the supermarket across the road. Over priced place and cannot comment on the food because we left before it arrived. E for effort and E for places to go in Bethel. (Rubbish). read more

More of a 2.5 My friends and I dipped into suds for an early dinner after a long new year's ski day. We had not eaten much, and had really worked up an appetite. Unfortunately, the friendly service and lively atmosphere that always drew me to this place in the past was majorly lacking. The hostess and server seemed genuinely disinterested and rather annoyed we were there. The worst part of it all was the atrocious wait for our food. After our group of 4 ordered two bison burgers, a steak bomb, and a BLT, we were treated to an excruciating 45 minute wait. Keep in mind this was around 4pm and the place was not busy at all. Once our food finally arrived, my friend and I were disappointed to bite into burgers and find that they were overcooked. Normally the bison burger is a highlight of Suds and it's too bad they served it well done (we ordered medium) and not very juicy. Additionally, the sides of fries on all orders were definitely smaller than we would've liked, as they actually were pretty good. They also charge extra for cheese, without explicitly saying so on the menu and the server immediately asking for our cheese preferences while ordering our burgers. I sure hope this sorry excuse of customer service is a holiday anomaly because this truly was not an acceptable dining experience. read more

Came back after tuesday nights attempt (we didn't realize they were closed) and we are so happy we did! Found in the basement of the Sudbury inn this place is a gem! Lots of character here in this hideaway! I started off with a Aligash white pint draft and started with the mussels Provençal! The bf had the voodoo chili! The mussels were tender and very flavorful and came with homemade rolls to soak up the broth! The chili the bf said was good but a little lacking in the spice department (he has won a trophy for his chili.. and did I mention he is a firefighter). For the entree I got the spinach salad w/ the crab cakes ... and the bf got Shepard's pie. The spinach salad had fresh spinach with mushrooms and a cooked egg topped with honey mustard dressing. The bf really liked his Shepard's pie, topped with real mashed potatoes and served in a individual casserole dish. He said it was perfectly sized! The atmosphere is awesome! Signage everywhere some vintage and business cards up in the ceiling. The place and service (Dan was our waiter) is awesome!! We will definitely hit this place up again! read more

Sud's Pub is a bar and grill tucked away in Maine that actually offers a veggie burger on their menu. You'd probably never know it was there unless you lived nearby or were looking for a bite to eat near Sunday River. My two friends and I stopped in to grab a bite to eat and watch the Chiefs roll over like dogs against the Patriots. The house was packed with Pats fans, eager to tell each other that the AFC West was an awful division. It was interesting to wait quietly for a seat at the local watering hole while my home town team was getting crushed. There wasn't really anywhere to stand. Someone's kids were playing the Pac-Man game and not sitting at their table, so we couldn't sit on the bench near the entrance. It created the following situation: The waiter pushed me in the back as a way of gesturing that I shouldn't be standing in her path. I guess where I'm from, where the football is "bad," we just say excuse me. The push was effective - her elbow was strategically placed in my lower back. The irony is that the food was not all that great, and the Broncos beat the Patriots just a week later. The veggie burger was below expectations. I've had Quorn, Gardein, and so many more grocery store frozen patties, and that's all I was expecting from Sud's. The bun was redeeming though, and I enjoyed the fries. For what it's worth, the lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp. Sud's Pub sort of reminds me that in the US, we accept lower quality food because "we're in a rush," or "we're in a small town," or "we're at a bar, not a restaurant." This is a low-key and casual pub downstairs from the fancier Sudbury Inn which operates a more upscale restaurant on the street level. It opens for business at 4pm and is right on Main Street in the heart of Bethel. One of the reasons we like Suds Pub is that it seems to draw a nice mix of people -- year round residents, weekenders who own vacation property nearby as well as visitors and tourists staying in nearby Inns or skiiing at Sunday River. The groups all seem to mix freely around the bar. Staff has been great in our experience and there are at least a dozen beers on tap as well as a healthy bottle selection. Food selection is above-average-quality pub fare at reasonable prices. Seeing people order pizza and pasta dishes for takeout is pretty common. read more
