Pros: free bread (the biscuits were divine), lots of space (seems covid compliant), good salads, convenient if you're staying at the resort Cons: the price We ordered a salad with grilled chicken and the meatloaf. My salad was very tasty, and my husband enjoyed his meatloaf, but our bill came out to about $80 (salad, meatloaf and two drinks). $80 is pretty steep for standard fare in a low key restaurant. We are from Manhattan and are used to paying a lot for dinner, but at least the food is unique, or the vibe is very trendy/hip. So far I am pretty annoyed with this place. I arrived on Friday afternoon and was looking forward to grabbing some takeout dinner from here. I called soon after they opened around 4:30 PM and asked if they did take out. The gentleman on the phone said they do not do takeout over the phone, I have to order online. So I took the time to set up a profile on Sunday River's online ordering website. When I tried to order, Camp did not even come up as an option. "Sliders" which is not within walking distance of the hotel, was the only option. So I was unable to order dinner. After Friday night's failure, I was looking forward to hitting the breakfast buffet. It starts at 7 AM and I figured hitting it early would be the best bet. I went downstairs at about 7:10 and there was a line of about 50 people out the door wrapped all around the lobby. I was not in the mood to stand in a long line. So no breakfast for me. A few hours later when I was walking through the lobby, I asked the host what time they open for lunch. He said 11 AM. So I went back to the room and looked at their lunch menu online. I was looking forward to having a bloody Mary and a burger. Not wanting to deal with a huge crowd, I went downstairs at 11 on the dot. The door was locked. There were a few people milling around inside so I figured they were just doing last minute things before they open. So I sat in a chair in the lobby and waited. Meanwhile, a bunch of groups of skiers all started gathering around the door and everybody was confused why the door was locked. We all waited until around 11:20 AM and called it quits. Apparently they no longer serve lunch. Not sure why the host told me they opened at 11, why they have a lunch menu posted online, and why their Google hours state they are open for lunch. Very annoyed at this point. Since this is the only restaurant here at the hotel, you are limited in your options. I am not skiing due to an injury, so it is very inconvenient having to walk down through the snowy, icy parking lot and get in the car to drive somewhere off mountain. Very annoying. I tried to order takeout dinner online Saturday night and again, Sliders was the only option. After seeing some of the prices, it is probably for the best. $27 for a piece of meatloaf, $21 for a burger. A blessing in disguise I guess.... read more

The breakfast are the best! The crispiest bacon and delicious made to order omelettes. Although the biscuits need to be 86'ed from the menu until they find a better recipe and can serve them warm. Also they need a whole wheat alternative for people looking for something healthier. Dinner was mostly good. If you don't feel like venturing out after a day of skiing it's wonderful (only restaurant in the hotel!) so the best choice. The service is impeccable. The carrots, bearnaise sauce, and the steak itself was cold. The Penobscot potatoes were good though. A great restaurant that's a break from the normal American fare in the area. Really tasty food is complimented by a rustic yet modern upcountry Maine feel that's cozy and inviting. I stayed at the Grand Summit Hotel at Sunday River ski resort with my family and we came here every morning for the AMAZING breakfast they serve daily. They really bring out the goods every morning at this place - I'm talking French toast, pancakes, bacon & sausage, fruit, pastries, bagels, smoked salmon, a full omelette bar (with omelet chef Frank who is my new favorite human being), hash browns, oatmeal & so much more. Needless to say we were rolled out of there! The dinner here is not nearly as superb as the breakfast, but it's still tasty nonetheless. I enjoyed my veggie burger (made of sweet potato, black bean & quinoa) and my family enjoyed their meals as well. All in all, I think I'll stick to breakfast at this place when we return...unless we're forced to stay indoors for an extended period of time & need to eat somewhere close by :) read more

So, this is the first time I've ever written a review of a restaurant, but my service was so bad it warrants a first time. I've been coming to the Grand Summit and Sunday River as a whole for 20+years and never have I ever received such poor service. I don't feel good that have to do this. We showed up at 8 for deserts and drinks. After we were seated we waited ten minutes for a waitress. We place our order and waited 20 minutes for ice cream and pie. When a different waitress arrived with the food there was no apology for the wait or explanation of why our waitress changed. I asked her about my drink, because I hadn't seen any sign of it during this time. This waitress was great to go get my drink started finally and brought it back promptly. After we got our desserts we overheard the waitress we had before offer the table behind us options for the desserts she had not offered us. They said they could make almost any drink, but it was the worst tequila sunrise I've ever had. Unfortunately after all was said and done we waited 30 more minutes for our check after we finished our food. The bus boy came by 15 minutes before we got our check and we only got our check because I went to the bar and asked the bar tender if I could just pay there since I'd waited so long for my check. He was super helpful and got the waitress right off. The waitress came over with the check. I handed her my card and she said nothing to me. She brought back the check for me to sign and asked me to fill the receipt out and quickly ran off before I could tell her there was no pen. I saw markers under the unattended hostess booth, so I grabbed one and filled it out since I wasn't waiting another half hour or more for a pen. Sunday River is a great place. It's inherently expensive and for what people are paying I definitely expect more than that. I'd give my service at Camp no stars if that was an option. It was much busier at Sunday River Brewing Company and we got excellent service for lunch, the food was better and the price was more fair. My family and I dined at Camp on our last night of our Sunday River trip. I really enjoyed the Tenderloin Bordelaise and my wife raved about the cauliflower dish. I'm up at Sunday River for the weekend to go skiing with a group from all over New England. Our itinerary said to meet at Camp for breakfast before hitting the slopes, but I didn't see anyone in the restaurant, so I headed over to the breakfast buffet and found myself a table. A waitress comes over and asks if I sat myself or a staff member sat me. I told her I sat myself, and she said a staff member is supposed to, and I should've waited for someone. There was no one at the front counter, and no sign saying to wait to be seated. I was there the night before to meet up for drinks, and there was no one seating anyone then either. Then she asked if I had a voucher; for what I had no idea. She asked for my last name, I presumed to look me up. After tending to her other tables, she came back a few more times to get my last name again. She finally brought over a bill, and then ANOTHER employee comes over and asks for my last name to check his list. Then he asks what room I'm staying in, and I said I wasn't staying at the hotel. Mind you, this is all happening while I was eating. I'm staying at the Snow Cap Inn down the road, and the clerk told me to go there for breakfast. read more

We waited for our waitress to come back with menus and after about 10 min we asked the person behind the bar if it was buffet only or if there was a breakfast menu. We were unpleasantly surprised when the appetizers appeared almost immediately, and well before our cocktails. Either the bar was understaffed, or our waiter did not put the drink order in before the apps, or the apps were prepared well in advance and then warmed, or maybe a combination. The scallops in a maple sauce with sweet potato gnocci were good, but not great. The sticky ribs were better. The meatballs came in a bland cheese sauce, and the charcuterie was weak - a slices of mediocre meat sticks and equally middle of the road brie and a tasteless semi-hard cheese. Our drinks arrived about half-way through the apps, after we sent out an APB. Waitstaff needed training - each request was a separate trip - from, "may I have an extra napkin?" to "what is on tap?" - the former sending the waiter on a hunt and the latter a separate hunt for the beer list, and then a separate trip for a beer order, which. . . wait for it . . . arrived mid-meal and was served to the wrong people. Burgers were good and the side potatoes a high point; the meatloaf dish was prepared in advance and re-warmed (judging by the crust on the mashed potatoes) and the harvest salad was okay, but could have been better, as the roasted veggies were small, cubed and dry and the dressing lacked any particular luster. We had two rounds of drinks (one person was driving and did not drink), apps and entrees and the tab before tip was just shy of $300. Not a meal to remember or to repeat. read more

Food was EXCELLENT. I had this chicken that sounded kind of odd - mustard crusted with a maple glaze. It was perfect - great flavor - well prepared. Even my mashed potatoes and green beans were super! Price was quite reasonable - on par with all other meals in the area - even ones that weren't nearly as good. This is a much improved restaurant than what was here several years ago. The place has a cool Northern Exposure vibe and a has a great bar to gather once you've settled in at the Summit. The food is ok. The portions are average. The prices are a bit higher than equally comparable places in Newry. Beware of the mystery meat that they use in the Cesar salads. Looks like pork but doesn't quite tastes like grilled chicken. Maybe previously frozen after being grilled? Not really sure. This place was advertised as the official "After Party" location for the New England Forest Rally. They knew we were coming, and the crowd of drivers crew and fans was not as big as years past. The bar staff was horrible and it was obvious they didn't want to see us, you almost had to grab one just so they would look up and not completly ignore you. Last call was 12:30 or ealier and security was kicking everyone out by 12:45. The only time I could really hear the wait staff and bar tenders was when they started kicking everyone out at 12:45. The breakfast buffet was included in our stay and was fantastic! There was a great selection of healthy and indulgent options. The blueberry pancakes were definitely my favorite! Dinner was pretty good, the service was very slow though. It took awhile for our server to even greet us and take our drink order and the food took quite awhile to come out as well. I ordered the burger which was good but definitely not the best I've ever had. The decor inside of the restaurant is very cute and the overall atmosphere is great as well. Tips for the chef in order of importance: 1) do not use bottled Italian dressing to replace Caesar salad dressing, try making it from scratch, it's easy; 2) if you serve a piece if salmon with salad, please brush it with a bit of oil and season with salt and pepper and lemon otherwise it is just protein; 3) don't over salt the lobster bisque, it kills the delicate flavor of the lobster. Worst meal I have ever had on mountain. Not only were the bar tenders talking about they have never eaten off the new menu they had no idea about it. Dear chefs just add more meat and cheese loose the wasted time of the mediocre pickled products. Every guest around us was complaining! The entrees are all equally a miss. What restaurant does not have a steak. The menu writer does nothing but describe a truck stop meal with the selections. Maybe thats why the place is empty??? Our group had higher hopes and expectations for this restaurant. We started out ordering some apps poutine fries, brussel sprouts, and the meatballs. Apps came out hot and warm and were good to split among our group. Service and speed of the restaurant seemed to take a dive after that. Our server seemed busy and too occupied with the wedding that was happening at the same time. When we finally got our meals our steaks were not cooked to our specifications several of us had cold sides/vegetables and we were all fairly disappointed in the portion size. For the price of the meals I would encourage the restaurant to evaluate larger portion sizes. Meal isn't over yet though we waited about a half hour to get the bill... we asked one server who had helped us earlier for the bill and said the other would get it for us. Bill finally came after what felt like much too long of a wait. Overall food was good but not worth the price tag. Better off getting $400 of dank pizza at a mom and pop joint. read more
