Every time we travel to Sunday River, we look forward to spending time at The Foggy Goggle! This year felt a bit unusual as it was emptier and not as good as it has been in the past. We were told that it was understaffed which explained the long wait and many empty tables. Once we met Jennie Mae it was all ok. She was attentive and super friendly. With the outside entrance, it seems to always be cold inside now. The food and drinks were great as usual but the atmosphere would have ruined the experience if we didn't have Jennie Mae. read more

Reading through some of the reviews, I was kind of shocked to see so many lower ratings. Foggy Goggle is located at South Ridge at Sunday River, and I have consistently appreciated the food and service that it provides. Foggy Goggle has an expansive bar that is the central component to the restaurant, and there are varying booths and tables for patrons to sit at. There are also picnic tables on the outdoor porch that has service, or you can stand and enjoy the outdoors with a beverage. The menu is also expansive ranging from pub favorites, salads, sandwiches to varying entrees. There are always specials that change daily, and they have a large cocktail and beer list, which feature a wide range of local brews. You can also get a loaded Bloody Mary which has a pickle, olives, bacon, etc., which is always great. As far as food, I am always impressed with the quality. I have ordered the nachos (definitely get it if you are a nacho fan) with chicken, the BBQ salad, buffalo chicken dip...all have been really good quality. Foggy Goggle certainly does get busy, however, I have consistently received great service from the staff. They are always attentive and friendly, even when it is extremely busy. However, if you are looking for an in-and-out experience, you most likely will not receive that. Why not 5 stars? It can get a little pricey. Expect to pay $12 for any local beer, and food items are in the $16+ range. Regardless, I plan to continue coming to Foggy Goggle for all things apres ski! read more

The Sunday river no cash policy needs to be advertised more. There needs to be clear signage at all locations as it causes issues. I was at the Foggy Goggle and ended up getting stuck paying for someone else's bill. I was sitting at the bar and started talking with a kind and nice person that ordered food and drinks. She left before me and left cash for items which was taken by the staff at the bar. I was then given the bill for itens that were both mine and hers and was forced to pay for items that were not mine. I was told that cash wasn't accepted which I already knew but apparently this other person didn't. The staff at the bar acknowledged the cash that was left but stated that cash wasn't accepted and that I was responsible for the entire amount of the bill which isn't fair. If the mountain is going to have a no cash policy they need to clearly document the policy so that all patrons that enter the establishment are aware of the policy. This way people like me are not taken advantage of and forced to pay for the food and drink bills for others. I did not know this person but I was basically penalized because we had a conversation with each other and the staff made the assumption that we were together. This other person was there before I was and left before I did. I should not have been forced to pay for the food of other patrons because the mountain doesn't have the no cash policy clearly documented. I was kind to the staff as this is not their fault and let it go but this is something that needs to be dealt with from a management standpoint as I paid the bill for someone that left cash that was not aware of the policy. This is not fair to me and other locals that frequent Sunday River. I live in Bethel and feel taken advantage of. read more

I don't write a lot of reviews but the "buffalo chicken dip" is worth one. There certainly wasn't any chicken in it and I'm fairly confident there wasn't any cheese in it either. So the sour cream that happened to be colored orange wasn't my fave. Just don't get that. read more

Awesome environment, live music, great beer options. Not a huge fan of the food, but it was edible. If you're an actual charcuterie snob don't get their meat and cheese board, it's pitiful. Nice arrangement of cheeses, but the meat tasted like someone froze it and quick thawed it and was soggy. Gross. The bartenders are quick and courteous. During the week service is great, once the weekend crowd hits it lacks. I honestly think they're understaffed on the floor. Our server was running around like a mad woman, but she did a good job. I make better stuff in my kitchen for my kids at lunch in a rush. Cold fries. Pink hot dogs. My chicken parm sub tasted like it was made by my 9 year old with chicken fingers and ragu sauce (come to think of it he did disappear for a few minutes near the kitchen entrance...) I have vacationed in Sunday River twice, however this was my first trip to the Foggy Goggle. It was very crowded anytime we went to get a beer after a day of hitting the slopes. The beer was good (the craft beer was yum), the food was "meh", and the service was okay. What is not okay, were the PRICES. Myself and 3 others were there on St Patricks Day and was reccomended by our waitress to try the "shot special" of the day (a Dirty Leprechaun or somthing), and said sure. I wish I had asked how much they were first... who would have thought a shot "special" would be $12 a piece? Just those 4 (small) shots graced our bill at $48... with 3 entrees (my siblings split a meal) and a bucket of beer, our bill was well over $100 for cheap bar food... wow. Learned my lesson; do not buy liquor at a ski bar. We chose not to return the rest of our visit. Stick to the beer. read more

She wasn't even our waitress but had come over to tell us how cute our 5 month old was (which is a winner with any new mom) but she went out of her way to help us out and serve us. I came here with friends to take a lunch break from skiing. It was a loud atmosphere but it had great views of the mountain! I ordered the quesadilla with chicken and my friends to the half soup and sandwich and a burger. The food came out super quick was really great, and the quesadilla was really good!! The Foggy Google is located Mountainside at the South Ridge Lodge at one of my favorite places to visit in Maine, Sunday River Ski Resort. I don't actually ski but the mountain has so much more to do then that. On this visit we were watching the North American Wife Carrying Championships during Peek Foliage season and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat for lunch. The Foggy Google was open special for the weekend so we gave it a try. We sat on the second level outdoor patio. One of the first things we noticed were the many yellow jacket hornets flying around. This was a little concerning but obviously would not be a problem in the winter. They kept to themselves for the most part but I probably would not have been happy getting stung by them. The menu was limited for the weekend but included most of the Foggy Google Favorites. I was in the mood for nachos so that's what we got. Also on the menu was Beer and Cheese Dip with Pretzel Breadsticks so we couldn't resist that either. The Loaded Nachos were a half portion size and they were still huge. We opted for no Jalepenos but decided to order them with braised chicken This was a good choice because the chicken was excellent. Unfortunately it was all dumped in one spot on the top of the Nacho mountain and not spread throughout the dish. I thought that was bit lazy as it would have been more enjoyable to have chicken with each bite but i just used my fingers to clump and dump the chicken on my chips. The Beer cheese dip was pretty amazing. It was a tangy hoppy blend of cheeses and ale and was super rich and thick. It would have made a great Mac and Cheese. However the pretzel breadsticks were obviously from a frozen box and came out rubbery like the bottom of my shoe with almost no salt. Again, a little lack luster and lazy. We actually dipped most of our chips in the beer dip instead of the breadsticks. Overall this was a decent meal that could have been great with just a bit more care and pride. Because of the inconsistent food a four star rating turns into a three. I may be back but with so many other great places in the area I probably wont be banging down the door to get in. read more

Went here to meet up with some friends after they went skiing at Sunday River. Place was really nice and had a great view of the mountain and everything. We got some beers, some people got burgers. This is a bar located at the base and main lodge of the Sunday River ski area. I was recently at Sunday River and had dinner at the Goggle. I ordered a bacon cheese burger and a few 7&7's. Everything was great. Unfortunately while we were up there it happened to be Children's week and all we could hear was screaming children. However the food and drinks are great, the staff is friendly and the prices are not that bad. read more

Nice little bar at Sunday River Resort in the main lodge. I like the idea of the deck outside facing the mountain - awesome view - and enjoying the outdoors. Unfortunately this spot seems to be pretty much crowded from lunch time on , though a few of us that were done for the day did manage to grab some spots at the bar. Prices are fairly cheap (this coming from someone who lives in Boston)...but the service was sub-par. It seems like there is just too much going on in there and not enough staff to get a handle on it. Heck if you are up skiing though you might as well give it a try after all it is right there. read more

Went a few weeks ago and usually have a great time. This night we had a girl from New Orleans tending bar. A girl at the bar ordered a birthday drink for a friend, and before she started making it, asked to change it because she asked for wrong drink. She was very polite but the bartender made a big deal of it rolling her eyes. I then saw her say to a friend who was at the bar that she hated these Mass people who, by the way, were tipping her very well for basically no service at all. I ate here yesterday with my family. I agree with previous comments regarding the staff. They did seem to not want to be there but were attentive. Nachos were good. A large was plenty for a family of 4. Pastrami on pretzel roll was good, the burger not so much. It was cooked to well done and was small maybe a quarter pound. Kids chicken tenders and fries were fine. I initially wanted the fish tacos but our server steered me away saying they were small. Lastly our dinner came out about 10 minutes after our apps which is a pet peeve of mine. All in all not terrible and very convenient but could improve. read more

Been meaning to get this review in now that ski season is almost upon us. Sunday River may be my favorite East Coast Mountain. I live in Boston and work alot with family responsibilities so do not get up as much as I'd like. As for the Foggy Goggle,as a former restaurant server and bartender I feel I can say the service here is confused at best and outright just bad !! The bar at the top is much better option but for SR I would stick to BYOB or the general store next to the lodge. read more

So....The service was fine, however, the food was the issue. I ordered the chicken BBQ sandwich and while eating it, the "smoked" bacon tasted chemically. That should have been my first warning, but I continued to eat the sandwich. After I left the restaurant and an hour had passed, I began feeling sick to my stomach and started having GI issues. A friend that had dinner with me ordered the sandwich too and had the same symptoms. It has been three days and I am still experiencing some discomfort. My guess would be minor food poisoning, but I will have to go to the doctor's office if these symptoms persist. I feel bad for writing this, but I would not want this to happen to anyone else. read more

We were there on a Sat night. We didn't want much just some appertizers and drinks. We were with a large group who was at the resort for the weekend but just 2 of us got a table in the back (the live music is way too loud in the main part of the restaurant). The hostess said she could seat us and we'd have a nicest waitress. So we sat down, there were large tables all around us. We finally saw the waitress bring a round of drinks for the table next to us but then passed over us and left the little room. The other large table on the other side of us were all leaving. The bus boy came over to clear that table and the waitress then came over...to the dirty table and started clearing it with him, still hadn't come to our table. I had to used the bathroom and when I came back my husband said that she still hadn't come to the table and we had been sitting there for 25 minutes and there were two empty tables in the back room. It was ridiculous. We finally got up and told the hostess that she never came over and we waited and waited. We ended up going across the street to The Phoenix where they the service was 100x better than this place. read more
