Got these ribs this evening, they were inedible. Bought full rack with two sides and a large smoked cashew. Nothing was to our satisfaction. The ribs were burnt and inedible, the corn had no flavor and tasted watery (frozen corn) and the Cole slaw tasted like it came from Sysco and the cashew had a very unpleasant finish to them. I drove 20 minutes to return the ribs. The person working the window showed no remorse and said that most people like them cooked that way. I asked if she had any with less crust and was told no. I am amazed that the people working there think this is an acceptable dish to serve. Was given a partial refund, but still feel very unsatisfied by both the horrible food and the callous attitude of the staff. The truck refused to credit my card for the return and insisted on giving me cash, that is not how I wanted to be reimbursed but no cares from the server. I am sure they will not miss my future business, but they should be ashamed to call themselves a BBQ joint serving such food and then trying to defend it. I really don't know how to feel about this place . I came here once like a decade ago and the food was spicy and I had not been back . Was closed on the 4th of July so we came today , Sunday . It was busy . I had checked the menu available online on Facebook and yelp . It was about 2 pm. I had called prior regarding a nut allergy as they serve roasted / smoked bbq cashews . Nut allergy here . The woman said only one food includes cashews and that they were careful for cross contamination but couldn't make any promises . I said ok thank you . So the menu on the truck is different than what's available online . Even the paper menu being offered is from 2023 . It's 2024 . I asked about spice on the phone they said only the hot bbq sauce is spicy . I had planned on ribs but when I got there there was a lite rack and a heavy rack . It was to go so I ended up ordering Korean pulled pork , it was a special . Normally they have choices of sides you can pick . I wanted Mac salad but none was available . I choose a Korean Cole slaw and an extra corn bread as a side . Bean and Cole slaw was the choice . My guest ordered the same but chose beans , CB and Korean slaw .i opened the meal and there was slaw all over the pork which I was not expecting. As I saw the containers the sides came in . We waited and got the food and went to the truck as the tables were full . It was fine . So the pulled pork was dry , but came with extra sauce . It was room temp . Not hot . I took the slaw off the pork and literally it was dried out . Big hunks of dry pork. I was looking forward to corn bread . It was not sweet like typical cornbread . It was bland and tasted like raw corn masa for tortillas . The Korean slaw was ok . Not sure what made it Korean . I tasted my guests beans , bland no flavor and no sweetness that's typical for traditional baked beans . Did not find out till after I ate , the cashews are roasted / smoked at the same time as the food ! Yikes ! But worse then the mediocre food was the horrible customer service at the window ! Miserable is what she seemed to be . I cracked it up to being hot outside but my god don't get mad at people asking questions ! It says online Mac salad is available but it was not today . The service was great. Nice lady, total round trip from home to food and back was 15 min total and I live in town. After eating, I immediately had to wonder if the BBQ trailer had anything to do with the Good Food Store. The name of the game was dry, which is very unlike anything I have ever gotten at the Good Food Store. The buffalo mac was awesome but other than that I was dissatisfied. Hot links and chicken were dry. Corn bread was dry. Beans were dry. Nothing crazy in the taste department either(aside from the buffalo mac). Looking for some great Southern BBQ up North? FOUND IT! Just a short drive from the main downtown of Bethel, this BBQ truck has the whole set-up. Their smokers were running and filled the air with deliciousness. Plenty of parking to pull up to and some picnic tables if you'd like to enjoy. Now onto the food. I got the Texas Beef Brisket, and it was everything. Nice and juicy, there was nothing dry about it. I got the Wild sauce which had a nice kick. The cornbread, Mac and cheese, and coleslaw were excellent sides. Hats off to you for making some Tangy style slaw that I truly enjoyed; I wanted to buy some to go, and I don't normally like tangy slaws. $14 for the sandwich and 2 sides and was very worth it. Wow. The spicy sauce is amazing, and the portions are more than substantial and delicious. They do an amazing job of getting some great smoke flavor into the meat and I can't wait for the next time I might be in the area so I can try the chicken. Only thing I might recommend is a thicker bottom bun that can hold the sandwich together a little better, but that's barely even worth mentioning. Also, food came out quickly and the picnic tables and smoke scent perfectly encapsulates what this place is. A great place with beautiful mountain scenery that serves delicious food at a fair price. I don't review every restaurant I visit, especially when on a trip, but this one is worthy of mention. My daughter and I were wandering around New England and arrived in Bethel, ME starving. We found a restaurant on Yelp and decided to try it, but when we walked in it just didn't look inviting, so we continued looking. We drove around a bit and actually just happened upon this place, as we really weren't looking for BBQ. We stopped because there were people in line at the food truck window, and once we pulled over, the aroma of barbeque filled the air. We were so glad we decided to try it! I ended up with the pulled pork "sundae" and my daughter had the beef brisket. It was a lovely day so we sat at a picnic table behind the truck and enjoyed our delicious lunch. They aren't open every day, and I suspect their winter schedule is different, so check ahead, but if they are open, it's definitely worth a stop! read more

This was a miss for us. We recently visited Bethel and got takeout from Smokin Good. The food was good, but lacked in the boom you want from bbq. Part of our brisket was awesome and juicy, part of our brisket was dry and impossible to eat. The pulled pork was smoky but didn't have any wow factor. Also dry in a lot of bites. The beans were pretty great, but stay away from the cornbread. Not a fan of the whole wheat style and it didn't have a lot of flavor. I was in the Bethel-area for my wife's family's Christmas weekend shindig. This happens every year, and we make the trek into in the western mountains of Maine for a weekend just prior to Christmas. While things have gotten noticeably better the past year, or so, Maine still lacks much in the way of authentic BBQ. When I found out Saturday's family dinner was coming from Smokin' Good, I was pleased, as I had stopped by at lunch time to check it out on my Bethel and vicinity explorations. Smokin' Good is a small 60's era travel trailer sitting in the parking lot of a roadside store, with a big ass smoker sitting next to the travel trailer. The smoke belching forth from the smoker smelled great and I was told they use apple wood and oak chips. I was impressed that even in the middle of winter in Maine, there are hearty souls trying to spread the gospel of BBQ to those of us tucked away in the far northeastern corner, far from the BBQ Meccas down south. When Saturday night arrived, so did the aroma of BBQ coming through the door to our camp. We had a nice assortment of brisket, pulled pork, baked beans, and corn bread. The brisket, while flavorful, was also a bit overdone, with the bark being charred. This was a major disappointment, as I could tell that brisket that hadn't been overdone was fatty and flavorful. The pulled pork was much better, although slightly dry. Smokin' Good doesn't add sauce to their meat, relying on smoking for the flavor. Their sauces, which range from mild, to XXX (extra hot) are flavorful and blended nicely with the pork that had been smoked just right. The dryness might have been due to the meat sitting for a bit, so I'll give them a pass on that. The smoked flavor was solid, however. The St. Louis-style ribs were excellent. The meat was tender and came away from the bone easily. Great smoked flavor, with a little bit of bark. The baked beans were excellent. Nice, tangy tomato-based sauce, with a hint of vinegar in the taste. They had been cooked long enough to give the sauce a nice thickness that I prefer in beans. Smokin' Goods' cole slaw is some of the best I've had. In fact, it was so good that people were fighting over leftovers the following morning at breakfast. The corn bread was decent, but not the killer kind of side that the cole slaw was. I'd definitely try Smokin' Good again, the next time I'm traveling Route 2 out of Bethel headed towards Sunday River. I'd like to give their brisket another shot. read more

I wish they had Porkslap Ale. That would have been perfect and gone with their marketing. I was confused at first and thought Smokin' Good BBQ and the food truck + dining area were different. They are not-they are one and the same. We came back from a strenuous hike (really it was the way down that almost killed us...damn blueberry ridge trail!) and we were HANGRY. We had some left over veggies from earlier that we had forgone because we didn't have enough water with us, but now that we were hydrated we didn't stop to think about those and went straight to the MEAT state of mind. We got two full orders-one of pork bbq on a roll and a chicken bbq. The meat was tender and smoky, the sauces equally so. They ask you if you want mild or wild...for the sandwich they'll put the sauce on directly but if you don't get the roll you can ask for the sauce in little containers. Which honestly is a good idea even you just get the roll because that sandwich will be overstuffed and that pork WILL fall out. Which you can then blissfully dunk in sauce. You get cornbread and two sides with your plate. You have the option of baked beans, coleslaw, and really hot chili. We got one of each and doubled up the baked beans. the chili was super tasty and savory but I couldn't eat too much of it because it was way too spicy for me. The beans are sweet and comforting but the winner was the coleslaw-wish I had doubled up on that one instead. It was tangy and crunchy, just enough sauce. I was a bit underwhelmed by the cornbread which was a bit on the dry side but they have the idea right-sugar has no place in corn bread (or at least not very much sugar!). We took everything with us and ate it back at our Inn but they've got some picnic tables on a nice grassy area behind the truck. I hope this place is open during winter too which is when I'm most likely to come back to Bethel! read more

Best Barbecue in Maine. This review is from the perspective of someone who has tried dozens of different BBQ joints across the northeast, made a Texas trip specifically to eat as much BBQ in Austin and Lockhart as possible, and smokes meat at home on a regular basis. Smokin Good BBQ is hands down the best BBQ I've had in Maine. Possibly in the Northeast so far. Pork ribs: Out of this world. Easily on par with Central Texas in terms of quality and flavor. Falls off the bone, but not in the messy "overdone" way. Glaze and seasoning are absolutely perfect. Brisket: Perfectly smoked in my opinion. Tender and juicy without a hint of toughness. This kind of result is extremely difficult to pull off, and so far this is the only BBQ joint outside of Texas I've seen it done right. Even by Texas standards, I'd say Franklin is the only better brisket I've had. IMO could use a bit more seasoning, though I think the expectation is for you to eat it with the sauce (which is also excellent). Sides: Both the slaw and beans are superb, and perfectly compliment the meat. Interestingly, the cornbread is the more "classic", less sweet kind which seems a bit at odds with the rest of the flavors, but is still very moist, and does a great job mopping up the plate. Value: Portions and price are amazing. Way more bang for your buck than other BBQ I've had in the area. Cheaper and exponentially better than options further south. Overall: Smokin Good BBQ is the real deal. They smoke everything they sell right outside in the two large smokers in the parking lot. They pump out food better than the big expensive BBQ restaurant in Portland (you know who you are). No frills, no fuss, no magic. Just great food and people dedicated to their craft. Being from the South it's one of thee if not the best BBQ I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The portion sizes are huge. The half rack of ribs is like 12 ribs so better be hungry. The brisket is so tender and great Smokey taste to it. The chicken just oh so tender and juicy. The sides are great with brisket pieces in the beans. And cornbread is so yummy. My one complaint would be is on Thursday when they open seems they don't always have their full menu. Which is odd being it's your first day of the week your open. For openers, if you believe the best barbecue is usually found in the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the window and just enough grease on the table to write your initials, then this isn't it. If, on the the other hand, you believe, maybe through the divine intervention of the barbecue gods, you can stumble across some exceptional 'cue while barreling down a rural highway somewhere in Maine Lobsterland, then this is it. What it is, is Smokin' Good BBQ, just across the lot from the Good grocery... what it is, is a trailer with a couple smokers and a handful of picnic tables. Yes, they have all the standaards, but what they also have is a unique approach with some off the wall menu items. As a for instance, they have something they call a "pork sundae" which is even more unique that Neely's Interstate (Memphis) barbecue spaghetti. Their pork sundae has a generous portion of very moist, oakwood flavored, pork atop a slice of cornbread with sauce, slaw, barbecued cashews (when's the last time you had or even heard of cashews marinated in hot sauce and then smoked?) topped with some pickle slices and more cornbread. A meal; a very different and memorable meal for $7.99. This "by the side of the road" eatery boasts that it's brisket so good that a Texan would mug you for it. The sandwich is $9.99, plate with two sides, $12.99. And it is good; very good. Didn't try the ribs pulled chicken or hot links, but if they're anywhere as good as the pork and brisket, it'd go a long way to explain the line of cars and motorcycles pulling off the highway. The Smokin' folks have couple sauces; the one we sampled was thick, smoke inmfused, and, like everything else, homemade and very good. For someone who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue (read my reviews of more than 75 barbecue joins across the country), I've gotta confess that this trailer along Route 2 in Bethel, Maine is not only worth the stop, but also worth going out of your way for. read more
