He strategically placed up-lighting around the venue to match our Wedding colors, on top of the strobes and colored lights used ot get the dance floor going. Add to that the fact that he was able to incorporate my rather long list of preferred songs into both the dinner and dancing portions of the evening and we had a very familiar and unique feel to our event. On the big day, the CD format wasn't playing for the DJ so I didn't get all my songs. But seriously, not a big deal. Penguin did the best they could in that situation. (We're not exactly the hipster types who are really into local music, but we can tell if we like it or not.) He went with it and played great music the entire night. Using Randal's online client portal, we were able to plan our wedding ceremony timeline, reception timeline and make song selections. We first met at his studio for a first meeting and planning consultation. The event questions and planning session prompted us to anticipate every moment ahead of time which meant we had complete enjoyment for us on the day of the event. We also rented lights, wireless microphones, and a television on a truss from Randal for our slideshow because our venue did not have that available. Our second meeting with Randal was for a walk through at the venue two weeks before our event to hash out final details and set up logistics. On the day of the event, Randal and his assistant arrived early to the venue and set up according to our prior planning sessions. They dressed professionally and made effective announcements at the appropriate times as requested during our planning. Our selected songs were played exactly as planned for the ceremony and reception. He followed our requests requiring special permission for some songs requested by guests. I admire his work and would not hesitate to hire him again for future events. We feel Randal is the best in the industry. The speaker and light towers were elegantly decorated with drapes which is one example of why his service stands out above the rest. If you are in need of a DJ for your event, go meet with Randal at his studio for the full demo. Throughout the 6 months before my wedding, I probably updated him a million times. He was extremely patient throughout all of my changes. He even gave me some great advice on how to make the timeline for my wedding! The weekend before the wedding, my husband and I had a long conversation with him going over the details of the timeline and music. It helped us relax and hand all of the entertaining over to him. We felt like we were in good hands, and we were right! The day of the wedding, everything went very smoothly. He played all of the songs on our "must play" list, and got people dancing. He was very 'go with the flow'. Transitions between different parts of the reception went smoothly due to his announcements. He stuck to the timeline that I gave him (which was really important to me) and kept me, my maid of honor and my coordinator informed the whole evening of changes or when we were supposed to move on (while also not being overburdening or pushy at all). Given our wedding was in the early evening in November, it gets dark early. He suggested a first look to get better lighting. We are definitely glad we listened! We interviewed two photographers before meeting with Dave. The first two were nice and had a good portfolio of pictures, but nothing that blew me away. I was a little discouraged thinking I'd simply have to settle. A friend of my husband recommended that we speak with Dave as he had heard good things. We instantly hit it off with him and we were blown away by his work. Needless to say, we booked him right then and there. Dave did our engagement photos in June. He was extremely flexible on time and locations. I have been told by many of my friends that their photographers only allowed them to shoot in two places -- anything else would be an up-charge. When I proposed a Saturday session at a winery outside of town, I was worried about the response I'd get. What do you know? Dave was completely game for it! We took the most beautiful sunset photos at William Chris Winery and a small park outside Johnson City. I had all of the photos in hand a week later, and they were spectacular. Our wedding was four months later. I'm not gonna lie, we missed our friend Dave during that time. We felt like we should schedule another session with him -- perhaps of our dog. Ha! Dave has a super cute family and you can keep up them on Instagram. Now for our wedding. We were married in a church and had an outdoor reception along the lake.
