I am terribly tardy in writing a review for Andy... He and his camera have been with us through so many milestones at this point - engagement, wedding, maternity, newborn, and family photo shoots. At this point he's been photographing us for so many years that he's almost family. Having a photographer who both does amazing work and makes you feel comfortable is truly priceless. His photographs are always fantastic. He works with us to find beautiful locations, and gets the photos ready for us to download in a timely manner. Andy's always quick to lay in the dirt, climb a tree, jump up and down while singing like a fool to make the baby smile - whatever it takes to get the best photo possible. My husband and I just got married last week at Barr Mansion in Austin. Andy was our photographer throughout the entire process. Andy was recommended to us by my wedding coordinator from Barr. We had our first meeting with Andy and I knew a couple minutes into our conversation that he was the right fit for us. His personality is contagious and was such a pleasure to work with. Our engagement photos and my bridal portraits were more than I could have ever expected. He really made an effort to get to know Tony and I and definitely captured our personalities in every photo. Beyond his incredible portfolio, the second most important factor when picking a wedding photographer is asking the question: "Can I chill with this dude for extended periods of time?" And the answer is yes, yes you can. During my bridal shoot, he made me feel at ease and cracked jokes to make my smile natural, not forced. He's been doing this so long that I trusted his advice on poses and places, which of course ended up being better than anything I could have imagined. His wife Faith is charming as well, contributing gorgeous candid shots to the photo shoot. They both made me look better than I do in real life, yet I didn't look fake or airbrushed into oblivion. Oh, do you need great recommendations for any and every wedding vendor? Andy personally knows them all and helps you find one that will best suit your specific wedding. There is one word to describe Andy and his work....AWESOME!! I was first introduced to Andy when I went to a bridal show as a maid of honor for my best friend's wedding in 2011. His work stood out in my mind so much from his display at the bridal show that after I became engaged I knew I had to have him for my wedding! Andy did both our engagement pictures and wedding pictures. He had to fly in from Texas for both occasions and we were so grateful he was able to do so. He returned our emails and phone calls almost immediately and was so easy to work with! Our engagement pictures were taken in Cumberland, MD (Andy's hometown). From the instant we met Andy in the parking lot, I knew we were going to have a great time. My husband was kind of nervous about the whole engagement picture session because he has always been one to not like getting his picture taken. Andy made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. We both had a blast and even my husband said he had fun. When we showed our pictures with family, friends, and co-workers, they all went on about how great our pictures were. And many of them didn't even recognize the location because of how unique they were!! Our engagement pictures were so wonderful, I couldn't wait to see our wedding pictures. The wedding took place at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, PA. Andy and his assistant were amazing. The day of the wedding was cloudy with a chance of storms and my husband and I had faith that it wouldn't rain and decided to keep the wedding outside. While the girls and I were getting ready, Andy assured us it wouldn't rain and it was perfect weather for pictures. Just hearing those words from someone else put me at ease. During the ceremony, Andy and his assistant were hidden. You couldn't even tell he was there like so many other weddings I have been to. I was in search of a photographer on pretty short term notice and had called many other photographers from yelp (with much higher ratings) to find out that they were all booked, and each phone call I spent time describing our unique property premiere event, where we were etc to find out they were booked. So I called here and a man answers and I asked if he was available on a certain date (to try and not waste his time if he was booked) and he got mad saying I need to provide more detail and told me very loud and rude that I need to explain my situation better for "future reference" because it's unprofessional etc and basically yelled at me... I literally wish I had recorded the call.. never the less, he was really rude to me when I was just trying to not waste either of our times. Will not ever call him again obviously, and you shouldn't either. I was really upset that he would respond that way. But we ended up getting an amazing photographer so I am so glad we didn't use him! read more

I recently hired Andy to do my engagement photos and could not have been more pleased with the experience! My fiance and I were a little nervous about the photo shoot because we are not used to being followed around with the camera but it was nothing like what we expected. Andy made it fun and we were able to relax and get our true smiles. The turnaround time was also incredible. We got our photos edited and back to us within the week along with a disk so we could reproduce the photos as we wanted to. "Breath taking beautiful" was used by a friend to describe the wedding photographs from Andy Sams. I could not agree more. Reasons why he is an amazing photographer: 1. He is a magician. He can turn an ordinary setting into amazing photographs. Our wedding was at the Allan House and he turned the entire venue, streets, areas of overgrowth and even the prison into beautiful photographs we will cherish. 2. Wedding perfectly captured in "tones" of photographs. We had over 600 photographs that captured the entire event, feelings and moments along with the standard staged family shots. I treasure the photographs since they help me remember all the details and events of the wedding. Trust me, your wedding day will be a blur. 3. Professional and prompt communications. Andy has quickly responds to all communications and even provided a picture I needed for holiday cards almost instantly. 4. Prompt turn around and amazing products. Our photograph link and products ordered were provided in the agreed upon time-frame. The pictures ordered had amazing color/pixel quality. 5. He is fun. This is critical since your photographer will follow you around for your entire wedding. He is a pleasure to be around and made the entire process enjoyable and relaxing. Our photographs were natural, even though our faces started to hurt from smiling. I do recommend engagement photos as this allows you time to get to know Andy and understand all the hand jesters for kiss, lean in, etc. 6. Went above and beyond for our engagement photos. They were just as amazing as our wedding photos. He took the time to scout the unfamiliar location in Dallas prior to our appointment. We used Andy for all our of photography - Engagement photos, bridal portraits, and the wedding/reception. What I loved was, he was always on time to every appointment we had and always came with a game plan. For our engagement photos, we gave him a general area in Austin that we wanted to have them done and before our appointment he went around the area and scouted out potential locations - we loved every single one of them! It was 90 degrees outside and my husband was in jeans and a sport coat, so him being prepared really made my husband happy :) My bridal portraits turned out beautiful and he did a fantastic job at putting me at ease (since taking solo pictures can always be a little awkward :). As far as our wedding photos go, he and his wife (Faith), captured every moment beautifully. I love their photo journalistic approach to photos - everything seems to flow perfectly. The photos were stunning, hilarious, (some) embarrassing, etc. - everything I wanted to remember from my wedding. They did an incredible job capturing not only all the events and everyone at the wedding, but also the decor and atmosphere of the wedding. I had 300 people at my wedding, so it was very hard for me to get around and speak to everyone and capture everything that was going on. Andy is amazing! He did our engagement photos (unfortunately he is booked for our wedding) but it was the BEST first experience at professional couples photography. I was really worried as neither me or my fiancee are the "photo type"...or so I thought. Andy spent the time to get to know our preferences, went as far as to help me pick out outfits (I over-prepared with too many options, and under-prepared by not prioritizing myself). All in all he made us feel incredibly comfortable, natural, un-poised, and while cliche - in love! On his part it seemed effortless and uncontrived. The product - it's what we are all after - is amazing. Crisp color, flattering, great backgrounds. There were so many photos we loved, it took a committee of friends and family to choose. I loved my experience with him and his wife, Faith. My only regret is that he books out, but it is a testament to his talent and loyal recommenders. What I thought was going to be uncomfortable/stressful ended up being (for both me and my fiancé) a very fun, romantic evening. I hope to be calling if kids come along! read more
