Remarkably one of the good things that came out of this social distance was my return back to cooking. Yesterday my partner Ralph and I waited almost 1 1/2 hour just to go inside the 99 Ranch Supermarket(an Asian market) in Hackensack, NJ as I was picking up some ingredients for Pad Thai. We left there without the tamarind sauce which was one of the key ingredients to this recipe. After doing some research and a call, we came this morning to this Indian market predominantly catered to the Indian cuisine in Rochelle Park next to the Outback Restaurant off of Route 17 north. This average size store has a large variety of frozen foods as well as appetizers such as roti and samosa. They also have fresh produce such as parwals (pointed gourds) and assorted sauces. So if your ingredients call for something of an Indian spice not found in the local market, this could be the place.

My friend Val X. and I stopped in to grab some groceries and snacks on our lunch break. The staff gave us (the only two non-Indian people) in the store the illest looks. Val was completely unaware of their stares as she went to buy her safi. I was enamored with their snack menu, while Val did her shopping. I picked up some pan, a chicken samosa, and a big potato samosa. One of the staff members questioned if I really knew what pan was and if I actually wanted it. Frustrating, since I definitely know what it is and I've had it in India. The samosas were cold and mediocre. The "big" potato samosa was one of the smaller ones I've had. The samosas are definitely better at the Subzi Bazaar in West Nyack. Prices for the Indian ingredients are about the same, so no big difference.

Indian groceries in bulk! That pretty much sums up my review! This is what keeps me coming back here, plus there's tons of parking! I haven't been to the other locations, but I agree with my fellow yelpers that some..... Key word "some" items are expensive. The staples I come here for are rice, flour, lentils, Indian seasonings and Indian produce that's hard to find at your regular supermarkets. It's pretty difficult to find turmeric root and certain okras, but in here it's easy peasy! In addition, there rice and flour options are vast and in bulk, I'm talking 10-30 pound bags here folks! Thus when shopping in bulk and visiting this location, I believe it's worth it. It's my Costco for certain Indian products! Spot in and check them out!

indian groceries!! i hear its expensive but this is my first indian grocery store, so i'm pretty ignorant tried their saffron pistachio ice cream under a friend's recommendation, but I was supposed to go for the carton NOT popsicle form.. FAIL also got a spice mix box for 99 cents, kurkure chips, & ginger paste! they've got lots of other items like yogurt, lentils, snacks, fruit, & even a counter selling hot foods like samosas

Its topped with fresh chopped onions, tomato, and cilantro. There's plenty of chicken in it. The platter itself is very small for the price, just a heads up. The aloo parathas are my go to. I've tried the one with the meat and the meat was inconsistently placed throughout the paratha. The aloo paratha is good, but could use more filling. Here's where they lost me: the raita- that yogurt sauce that comes with the paratha- is ALWAYS inconsistent. The first time I ordered the paratha this raita was the best i've ever had. It was raita with added tomato and onions. Blew my mind and I ordered it again. Next time they give me a yogurty mess that I wouldn't call a raita. No added anything. The time after that they forgot to include my raita and when I picked it up later, it was another disappointing variation. I've stopped ordering their parathas because of this since I cant eat dry partha by itself and who knows what kind of raita they'll give me. Overall, I continue to get platters from them because they're within walking distance for me and the CTM rice platter is so good.

Most of the dishes had some sort of spice, very limited non spicy options. They pre make the base sauce so the spice level is not adjustable. We ordered a lot of the dishes from the menu starting with corn chaat and samosa. Corn chaat didn't really have corn, it was more like corn flakes with tomatoes and onions. The dish was blend, it needed some dressing sauce or yogurt on top to make it tastier. Samosa had good potato fillings, came with green and tamarind chutneys. For entree we got the chicken tikka masala, chicken korma with rice, naan and garlic naan with Amul cheese. Tikka masala was super delicious, thick spicy sauce. I was so glad to see chicken was moist not dry. Korma was a good too. The rice was cooked with jeera, had wonderful aroma. Both naan were excellent, loved the Amul one especially, it was so cheesy. We had the brownie ice cream for dessert, was a yummy one too. The mango lassi was also good, was on the thicker side. All our dishes came out so quickly, almost seemed like they had everything ready to go in the kitchen. It's semi self-served, plastic forks, spoon, knives and plates are next to the register. They serve the dishes in to go boxes, so very easy to pack any leftovers, just need the lids. Overall we loved the food and the atmosphere. Glad to see a good Indian restaurant establishing itself in the area.

I have shopped from here countless times just because I liked this grocery store very much. Last week I brought a packet of Basmati Rice , I will add a picture of it with description below. When my mother was trying to cook this rice we found stones in the same and the quality of rice is no where close to what we term as Basmati. This morning I went to the store to shop for more items but I forgot to get the rice , its picture or details and as a good Samaritan, I just explained to the female employee of the store what happened. To this she says" what can I do about it " in a very rude and disrespectful manner. So , I asked can you please give me the contact of the owner so that I can talk to him. Her response "You will not get his contact" . Then I was like "could you please be a little less disrespectful to your customers" . Her response "We are respectful only towards our GUJRATI customers" . That is when I revealed that I am Gujrati myself, which kind of shocked her.
