Kudos to Joe, an employee here, for using his employee comped meal to buy a meal for an Army soldier.

The staff is friendly (and patient too). We'd never eaten here before, so it took us a few minutes to try to make up our minds what to order. I ordered the "Italian" grinder (Half grinder) with everything (except mayonnaise) heated a little, and I had them add sliced pickle. Pickles cost extra, not sure why. This amazing delicious Italian grinder is literally the best Italian grinder I've ever had from any deli or restaurant! It was at least 4 inches tall, filled with lots of ham, Capicola, and Genoa, shaved lettuce, cheese, pickles, tomato, onions, peppers, and I had them add a little EVOO. I ate the whole thing (which actually was too much for me to eat at one meal, I would have been full with 1/4 of a grinder, instead of the 1/2 grinder, and I didn't eat any side dishes.) It was that amazing, I ate until I was very stuffed. My husband said his (Half) Pepperoni grinder was not nearly as good. It had pepperoni slices and cheese, that's it. He asked for lettuce, but they either didn't hear him ask for lettuce or forgot to put it on. He got it heated. I suggested that he get some sauce or something on it, but he didn't. He said next time, he'll definitely order something different. The grinders are a bit pricey (mine was $13.99 plus 75 cents for pickles, plus tax), so about $15.00 total for a half grinder; however, keep in mind the name of the restaurant, H&M Pizza & GIANT Grinders, and they live up to that name, and they are well worth the cost! I don't know whether or not they will let you order just a quarter of a grinder or not. If not, you can always save the other half for another meal. I want to try a different type of grinder the next time we eat here, and I sure hope that all the others are as terrific as the "Italian". We live 45 minutes away, but it's well worth the drive.

Disappointing experience. Stopped by last night for takeout…read moreafter another nearby spot didn't have oxtails available. I ordered a 1/2 Reuben sub, 10 wings, and an order of fries--total came to $34+ before tip (I tipped 20%). Waited over 45 minutes, which was already frustrating. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. The wings were overcooked--dry, tough, and lacked flavor. The Reuben was even more disappointing. The corned beef tasted bland and processed, almost like it had been frozen for too long and reheated. There was an overwhelming amount of meat but barely any sauerkraut or Swiss cheese, making the sandwich very unbalanced and not enjoyable. I grew up working in my family's restaurant, and one thing my dad always emphasized: it takes a long time to earn a customer, but only a second to lose one. I hope you take this feedback seriously and improve.

"I walked in, the baker said everything was sold I found out…read moreshe saved me some sweet jelly roll Yes, the baker shop boogie" (Willie Nix) Since we're friends, let me ask you a personal question--so tell me this: what's your official dessert policy? Are you a "dessert is a human right" kind of person who enjoys something sweet every night after dinner? Do you ceremoniously pair your evening coffee with a treat like it's a sacred ritual? Or are you more of a free range snacker who grazes on cookies and pastries whenever the mood strikes? At our place, we've somehow drifted into the habit of having a bakery item most nights. Could be a cookie. Could be a pastry. Could be a slice of something. All this brings me to yesterday's visit to the Hartford Baking Company in South Windsor, where we are now pretty well stocked for a week's worth of upcoming desserts, and maybe a breakfast or two. They have four locations in the Greater Hartford area, all selling the same amazing product line of bread, ciabatta, and rolls. But for the sweet tooth fiends out there, well get psyched for their scones, muffins, Walnut Coffee Cake, Financiers (a French almond cookie), brownies and bars, cookies, biscotti, shortbreads, Danish, Cinnamon buns, Pecan-Walnut Sticky Buns, Brioche Pastries, fruit tarts, and quiches. We were running errands in South Windsor yesterday, popped into Hartford Baking, and walked out with a bounty of wonderful looking goodies- brownies, a croissant, a chocolate banana muffin, a rectangular Financier, and a slice of coffee cake. We should be set for a while in the dessert department. I had the Financier last night, and never having heard of the word before, I consulted the old Google machine for some research and found a very cool origin-story. In the late 1800's there was a pastry shop located near the Paris Stock Exchange. The shop sold very popular small almond cakes that were baked in small rectangular molds resembling gold bars. They were a hit with the busy bankers who frequented his shop. The name "financier" stuck because of both the clientele and the gold bar shape. I have to tell ya, that Financier was amazing. It was dense and delicious and overflowing with almond flavor. I loved it. I also had a teense of the Banana Muffin this morning, and it was excellent as well. Loved that banana flavor and those chocolate chips. OK, so file away "Hartford Bakery" on your short list of "must visit" dessert destinations, because I assure you that you'll walk out a satisfied customer.

Which brings me to my newly crowned favorite sandwich - Tongue On Rye; ask for the tip slices very lean. I even got a dependable guarantee from our server she'd provide an unforgettable tongue sandwich. In a comedic mood, I asked our server to not give me any lip! She doubled over giggling and said thank you for your honesty and THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I've been asked just Tongue with "No Lip." Despite the comedy and light hearted conversation the table for two was perfect Harry & Sally style! Watching the action, enjoying the lean tongue on rye with mustard an unforgettable delight.

The still tastes good, with some exceptions. The frier oil seemed burnt, so the pickle chips we had just had that little bit of carbon taste on them. The pickle chips batter was very thick, and the mayo was the only respite. The sandwich, still tasty, seemed much smaller than normal, the meat still had good flavor, but the portion was lighter in comparison. The prices are also a bit high. The sandwich coming out to about 15 bucks. The bargain is very much gone now, and the portion is okay for a sandwich but pricy because of this shrinkage. Not shown are the overcooked onion rings. We returned those and the server promptly removed them from the bill. So really good customer service. I opted for a brownie for dessert, and the brownie was a disappointment. Too sugary, no flavor, gummy, and disappointingly small and thin. A detractor for sure. As a deli, it feels like it's on the decline. I know things are pricier now, but what you pay vs what you get doesn't match up. I'm hoping they pivot from this path, but right now it's no longer my go-to. It's still tasty, just pricy
