I stopped by here on the 4th of July when driving back home from a vacation. I was quite surprised they were open but very thankful I had the chance to stop by here to get food. The staff here are excellent; very friendly, patient and understanding. It was my first time at a D'Angelo's so I needed some time to understand the product. The food came out quick and was great. I had the italian sandwich and the bread was superb. They accommodated my request of not having onion. We also really liked the ham and cheese sandwich. The location and bathrooms were generally clean and I think this is an excellent place to stop by if you are traveling. read more

I come here from time to time especially when there's a BOGO deal and this weekend I went for my kids dinner. I got them the Thanksgiving sandwich that comes with gravy on the side. It comes with turkey, mayo, cranberry sauce and stuffing, toasted and a side of hot gravy. I ordered it in store and the woman was very helpful to me. I also came for my birthday sub but this time it wasn't loaded on my card w my cell number for some reason. The woman is going to look into it for me at corporate. This is the 1st time it hasn't been added to my account. So I still ordered the number 9 chicken medium size in a pocket with Swiss cheese , onions, mushroom and so yummy. I'm a big fan for the Number 9 w Chicken. The service is a hit or miss whether you order in store or on mobile app. Prices are a bit outrageous but if you have the BOGO deal it's a good deal to feed the family. D'Angelos, along with their sister company Papa Gino's, used to be EVERYWHERE in Connecticut. Over the last decade or so most have packed up and left. There are only 7 D'Angelos left in CT and only 2 Papa Gino's and 1 of each of those is inside the terminal at Bradley Int'l so you can't stop for anything unless you're flying in or out. I really struggled with the star rating on this one because though they are responsive and they do try, there have been too many issues with this location (as other reviews have also noted) and I can't bring myself to give this location more than 2-2.5 stars at best. Mainly because this place could be much, much better. The menu here is pretty basic, and though they have cold sandwiches, salads and a few "bowl" variations their biggest business is the grilled sandwiches. I've eaten at D'Angelos all over the state where they used to be and it was always consistent and good no matter what location you visited. A few of the other remaining locations are closer to that but this one is an anomaly and every time I visit another one I'm reminded of that. The worst part of it is the inattention to detail (accuracy of orders) and the shrinking portions. The disturbing part about the smaller portions is that I've always seen them cook the meat by weight, I'm not sure they're doing that anymore - or at least here - because the last "large" sandwich I got (previous visit) was missing ingredients and woefully under-portioned. I'd give this place at least 3-3.5 maybe even 4 stars but they haven't proven to me yet that they deserve it. Because the other locations have been consistent and good I sometimes forget the issues at this location and go back only to be disappointed more often than not. I will say that the last visit (pictures included) was much better, but time will tell. Not saying I won't go back here but the Rocky Hill location isn't that much further of a drive so, do BETTER Vernon D'Angelos. Just do better. read more

The Steak & Cheese sandwich I tried was not impressive. The bread didn't seem very full. I had numerous mouthfuls (from the edges) which were nothing but bread. The beef was low quality, with lots of inedible (cartilage, fat, etc.) bits. I ordered extra cheese, and it still didn't have very much. The added vegetables were not exceptionally generous, but fine. The pre-made, pre-packaged brownie (from a third party) was better than I expected. It was actually pretty good. read more

Great subs I try to get one anytime I go back to Massachusetts mainly a steak or Pastrami sub. You can't get a pastrami sub anywhere in Western New York or even in a deli around here and we're talking fatty pastrami. Also they make the best steak subs. This is a nice alternative to Subway. I generally prefer sandwiches from Subway, but like a rotation. Grilled sandwiches are the most popular thing here. I like the steak number 9 sandwich the most. After that i like the Korean BBQ Steak and Cheese. Mostly I go for large and stuff it with extra meat. It tastes better with extra meat. After sandwich, I like their rice bowls. I was satisfied with my visit to D'Angelo's. Everything is made-to-order and nothing just sits out waiting to be served, so the quality of food is better than other sandwich shops (e.g.; Subway). One may have to wait some time for their food---but that's what happens when they starting making the food after it's ordered. When we first entered, we were greeted by a highly enthusiastic worker at the counter. We ordered a cup of lobster bisque soup, the medium-sized "Buffalo Chicken Wrap", and the small "Korean BBQ Steak & Cheese". The lobster bisque came with a small bag of oyster crackers, and the "Korean BBQ Steak & Cheese" came with a small side of coleslaw. Furthermore, the small "Korean BBQ Steak & Cheese" was around 5.5 inches. We liked how one is able to select how much filling one gets in the "Buffalo Chicken Wrap"---if you want the wrap with lots of filling, ask for the large, and if you want it with less filling, ask for the medium. The medium-sized wrap was already generously sized and came with a good amount of chicken. The "Korean BBQ Steak & Cheese" was delicious, and the Korean BBQ sauce they used was tasty. One can definitely taste the cilantro in the sandwich---so if you like cilantro, you'll be in for a treat. Their white bread was soft on the inside and nicely toasted on the outside. The sandwich also had a very, very, mild hint of spiciness to it as well (due to the creamy Sriracha). Though, as someone who eats spicy food often, the Sriracha was barely noticeable. The lobster bisque was creamy, but it unfortunately lacked the flavor of lobster. At certain spoonfuls, I was able to taste a hint of lobster, but the flavor was not potent at all and there was not any chunks of lobster in it to boost the taste. (I think it goes without saying, but if you want amazing lobster bisque, go to a seafood restaurant.) Some people in other reviews have complained that it takes longer than desired for their food to be prepared and served, and again, this is because their meals are made-to-order. As a result, if one is hungry and cannot wait, I recommend getting a side or soup to sustain oneself before the main dish arrives. In summary, I overall enjoyed my visit to this location, and I see myself coming back here for another one of their hot sandwiches, grilled sandwiches. read more

I've been hearing more and more about this restaurant and finally decided to try it myself. I was not disappointed! First of all, it is sparkling clean and the staff was friendly and efficient. They follow all the Covid protocols you'd expect. Now the food: I was really hungry and ordered two small subs - a Steak Bomb and the hot Italian. Fresh, flavorful ingredients at just the right temperature and even though they I ordered the small sizes, they were stuffed! The Steak Bomb blows away any "Philly" I've ever had. The Italian impressed me because they used real cappy rather than the usual ho-hum deli ham you get at most places. The dressing was perfect. Really impressed! The prices are very reasonable. The food was cold which is understandable for delivery in the middle of winter but it was leaking in bags and the chicken and shrimp had a horrible rotten fish smell. The chicken marsala was flavorless. There were no utensils or butter with the undercooked bread roll. It was also strange that the above two dishes didn't come with a linguine type pasta but rather our only choices were penne meat or plain red sauce. What I dint like about it is the hygienic, can you believe they use the same cloth to clean the tables and clean the plates once you done. No dishes go in dishwasher! Yes they just wipe and use! I haven't seen D'Angelo's since I moved west, and it seems they've changed their brand slightly over the years. I've always come here for the lobster salad sandwich. They give you a nice portion, three size options, and you can choose from the traditional, buttered hot dog roll or a wheat/white sub roll. It's tasty, and it serves its purpose as a quick, yummy lobster fix. There isn't a ton of filler in this salad either. Lobster, straight up. I never have complaints about their food. I agree with someone's comment about them being a little slow sometimes, but being that I have been the one making the sandwiches at a d'Angelo before, I can tell you everything is cooked from raw and is fresh. That's why their stuff is so delicious. The steak bomb is fantastic. I wish they would bring back the sirloin steak tips sandwich they once had, but I really haven't had a sandwich at d'angelo that missed the mark. You always get what you expect here. Jose, the manager helped me out. He was kind enough, but he also was counting the drawer on the front counter during business hours. I don't know if that is normal practice, but I feel like that is something that shouldn't be done in front of the customers. One of the younger workers delivered my bomb out to me. No one apologized to me about the wait. The cashier Yvette told me that she puts people who order in the restaurant first and that online orders get made after.
