Standard Subway. Fast service, generally in stock./ The location is very small, so eating in can be impossible during the lunch rush.

Salty Heifer Grill - Philly cheesesteak

    Salty Heifer Grill

I believe Salty Heifer Grill operates as a food truck, usually set up behind Sarah's Bull Pen…read more I've only done pickup once, but this has become my go-to spot for DoorDash ordering when my wife and I don't feel like cooking or heading out for dinner. Portion sizes are always generous, and the quality has been consistently good every single time. They have never messed up an order of mine. They also have a fair amount of variety on the menu, which keeps things from getting stale. Reliable, filling, and definitely worth ordering again.

I should have recorded him saying them out loud!! The gentleman was very nice and nothing but positive vibes! I ordered Philly cheesesteak, poutin fries, 2 caramel churros and a glass bottle of root beer. The poutin fries had a lot of gravy so I ate this here. **Beware** the cheese curds are in fact cheesy!! I didn't chew them apart, so when I swallowed a part of it, it strung down my throat lol.. I had to cough it up. This is great quality curds! the choking is because I apparently don't know how to chew my food properly. But I separated another cheese curd in front of me and it stretched almost a foot long before breaking!! Top notch cheese!! Everything was very tasty, I ate the churros on my long drive home! They were filled with caramel.. soo good!! The Philly cheesesteak I had at home and it was in fact amazing! Next time I'm eating it there! I'll definitely be back to try out the many more items on the menu. I recommend you try this place. My food only took about 10-12 minutes, not long at all!

    Fancy Pizzeria

A little local trivia for anyone who remembers: back in the '90s, this building was a dry cleaner…read morewhere my parents used to drop off their clothes. Fast forward to post-COVID, and it's been transformed into something completely different: Fancy Pizzeria, run by a family with a clear passion for what they do, complete with an oven imported from Italy. Anytime someone says Safford needs a Chili's, I cringe... not because I don't like Chili's, but because good help is hard to find in a small town. The owners here seem to understand that, keeping things lean and hands-on with very little hired help. As a result, the service from the husband-and-wife team is genuinely great... though when it gets busy, things can slow down. I've experienced that firsthand, and walked out once a couple years ago after a long wait...but I came back, and I'm glad I did. The food is, simply put, amazing. The pizza has that perfect charred crust you usually only find in bigger cities or on the East Coast. The Italian sodas are excellent. I've yet to try anything, from appetizers to pasta dishes, that didn't hit the mark. Prices are a bit higher than most spots in town, but the quality absolutely justifies it when it's in the budget. I've heard the name "Fancy Pizzeria" was intentional: they wanted to set the expectation that this isn't your typical greasy pizza joint... and they deliver on that, consistently. The dining area has expanded quite a bit recently, and the decor is creative and unique, with many of the dishes and utensils sourced from local thrift shops. All in all, this place stands out in Safford in the best way. I genuinely love everything about it and hope they can continue to operate in the years to come!

This is a delightful Gila Valley find. I had tried it before, but they were out of gluten free…read moredough (the chef apologized that they'd had a delay in their caputo flour delivery--the special order secret ingredient in their dough). I had a salad, which was tasty, but didn't scratch the pizza itch. Fast forward a couple months and I found myself back in Safford. I was greeted warmly by the owner/hostess/waitress, who remembered the week they didn't have gluten-free flour and thanked me for returning. Before I looked at the menu, she warned me off the white sauces that are made with flour (I appreciated her being proactive on that so that I didn't get my heart set on something I couldn't have). I built my own mushrooms, spinach and artichoke cheese pizza. And...wow. Just wow. I was diagnosed celiac about 7 years ago, and this was the first pizza I've had that actually felt like pizza. It was delicious! I practically danced in my seat. I raved so much to the owner (wish i'd gotten her name) that she brought her husband/owner/chef (wish I'd gotten his name too!) to hear. He said it was important to him to get the proper "mouth-feel" and flavor so that everyone could enjoy the experience. This is next-level customer service. This will be my go-to restaurant whenever I'm in the Gila Valley. I need to go with more people, though, so that I can also try the garlic knots made with that delightful dough! It would be worth a detour wherever you are headed in south eastern AZ to enjoy the great food and warm hospitality of this hidden gem.

I was craving some Hawaiian for a while and saw this restaurant when passing through this town…read morewhile in Arizona. Decided to give it a try, and it was not so bad. Comparing to other places, it doesn't hit the spot as well; however it definitely fulfilled my cravings. Ordered a three meat combo, which comes with three different meats from their selection of five with a side of rice and macaroni salad. I got the chicken katsu, bulgogi beef, and Kalua pork. Mixed reviews with the different meats. The chicken katsu was fine, although it felt a little bit dry. The bulgogi beef for whatever reason was kind of a miss; the portion I received was pretty burnt and dry, sometimes I felt like I was just eating charcoal really rather than actual beef. However I really loved the Kalua pork, it was nice, tender, and flavorful. The house teriyaki sauce also complimented the meats pretty well. For the price you pay, I would say it's definitely worth it; the amount of food itself is more than enough for one meal (could even stretch it to 2 meals for those with smaller appetites). Overall, it's good for what you get out here in a more remote town. However, don't have super high expectations when you plan on getting Hawaiian food out here, otherwise you may feel disappointed. Service was really great, they prepared the food pretty quickly within 5-10 minutes of my order. I got take out, however there is plenty seating if you wanted to dine in.
