A friendly staff member let us know that the café is a nonprofit that employs individuals with disabilities -- such a meaningful mission! Our Harley Owners Group is doing a month long poker run with courthouses, so Bobbie and I came to Safford to get our pictures with the courthouse. As it was lunch time, we chose to come to the Main Street Cafe as we'd been here before and loved what they do for an underutilized segment of the community. The food is good but not great as its mostly sandwiches and chips, but if I'm there again, I'll surely come back if for nothing else to support what they do. read more

While visiting Safford, Six of us went for breakfast on a Friday morning during Lent; thus were in search of meatless options. The server was extremely accommodating and seven let us substitute other items like toast for the lack of meat. We'll, I ate most of my breakfast. My wife didn't like the water and her food was under-cooked and greasy. They opened at 8;00. We asked if we could come in and sit @ 7:54. They said they were closed even though the door was unlocked. They seemed slow and disorganized. The place is clean and they are mostly friendly, even the special needs (Downs Syndrome?) I have gotten the Greek salad twice, once with chicken, once without. Both were delicious. The berry vinaigrette is perfect with that salad! And I never would have thought to put fresh celery on a Greek salad, but I loved the crunch it added. Service can be slow. It's a small place with just a few women working. They also do wonderful service to the community and employee several young adults with Down Syndrome. They help teach these all too often ignored individuals important skills. Even if the food wasn't good, it's great to see a business care. But the food is good! I have only tried the salad thus far, but everything I have seen them bring to others looks wonderful. I plan on trying a sandwich next time. Though it might be hard to pass up the salad... Everyone is friendly and will greet you as soon as you walk in, even though you may have to wait for service. Update: had the roast beef sandwich for lunch today. It was great! I never would have put Dijon mustard and mayo and PepperJack cheese on roast beef, but clearly whoever came up with the combo was smarter than I... Had another business meeting in Safford and arrived about 45 minutes too early, my team and I stopped at Main Street Cafe for some caffeine and munchies. I ordered my usual hot chocolate, but definitely was not expecting what I got. First, it was served in what looked like a reused flower pot (super cute!!). Next, it was topped with what tasted like REAL whipped cream. The thickness of this cream was perfect and the taste was delightful! Then the whipped cream was drizzled with chocolate sauce. By the time, I got through the whipped cream I realized that this wasn't the basic type of hot chocolate I've come to expect- water and hot cocoa mix, this was the REAL thing, too! It was truly decadent. The cashmere smoothness and rich intensity of flavor was a perfect continuation of my morning. read more

The food here is similar to Panera if you've ever had it. The staff are very polite and patient, their menu is pretty big so I had trouble deciding. The decorations in there are beautiful, it's very quiet in the morning and relaxing. I don't drink coffee but based on their other items I'm sure it tastes good. I tried their pesto sandwich and it was delicious and so are their smoothies. Something I don't recommend is their potato salad, it's pretty sweet for my tastes, but maybe you'll like it if you try it. read more

Here you can get eggs, sausage or bacon, and toast or a tortilla for a very good price. Adding a side of hash browns won't cost you much more. The food isn't particularly exciting and/or of the greatest quality, but it will fill you up without breaking your bank. I love this place for many reasons. One, they employ handicap children and they have so much fun working there!
