A little local trivia for anyone who remembers: back in the '90s, this building was a dry cleaner where my parents used to drop off their clothes. Fast forward to post-COVID, and it's been transformed into something completely different: Fancy Pizzeria, run by a family with a clear passion for what they do, complete with an oven imported from Italy. Anytime someone says Safford needs a Chili's, I cringe... not because I don't like Chili's, but because good help is hard to find in a small town. The owners here seem to understand that, keeping things lean and hands-on with very little hired help. As a result, the service from the husband-and-wife team is genuinely great... though when it gets busy, things can slow down. I've experienced that firsthand, and walked out once a couple years ago after a long wait...but I came back, and I'm glad I did. The food is, simply put, amazing. The pizza has that perfect charred crust you usually only find in bigger cities or on the East Coast. The Italian sodas are excellent. I've yet to try anything, from appetizers to pasta dishes, that didn't hit the mark. Prices are a bit higher than most spots in town, but the quality absolutely justifies it when it's in the budget. I've heard the name "Fancy Pizzeria" was intentional: they wanted to set the expectation that this isn't your typical greasy pizza joint... and they deliver on that, consistently. The dining area has expanded quite a bit recently, and the decor is creative and unique, with many of the dishes and utensils sourced from local thrift shops. All in all, this place stands out in Safford in the best way. I genuinely love everything about it and hope they can continue to operate in the years to come! read more

I tried coming here earlier in the week, but the hours were wrong, we finally got that corrected so the listed hours are correct now! I stopped by another day and got a cheese pizza with pepperoni and bell peppers and got an acactus drink. The drink wasn't bad, it was a nice bit of sweetness for my drive home! The pizza may have parts of the crust black, but it DID NOT taste burnt at all! I really got hooked after trying my second slice. The dough is really good! Was the perfect size ;) the owner is very polite and a great conversationalist! I think she's the owner anyways! I got to sit on their comfy benches while waiting for the pizza to bake. The best pizza in Southeast Arizona! This chef knows what he's doing - the dough for the garlic knots and crust is our perfection. We were in town to check out Roper Lake State Park and stumbled on this place on our Yelp search. I'm so glad we decided to try it. It's located in the downtown area of Safford near the courthouse. There is ample street parking available. You enter the restaurant through a small door on the side of the building instead of the front. We ordered the garlic knots, chopped Italian salad, and the Great Bambino Pizza. The portions are large and we had leftovers for the next day. Everything is made fresh and with care. We tried the creamy tomato dipping sauce for the garlic knots and this sauce was delicious! I'm usually not the biggest fan of garlic knots but these were soft and incredible. I loved the chopped Italian salad that is loaded with sliced lettuce, meats and cheeses and topped with a tangy tomato vinaigrette. The Neapolitan style pizza was amazing! We tried the great bambino which comes with melt in your mouth meatball slices. The service was great and we even got other local recommendations from the wait staff for our stay. The food was simply delicious. I've had pizza from all over; this was perfection. Thin, crispy crust with super fresh ingredients and great flavor. The salad was perfect. At first I was skeptical because it was iceberg lettuce, but again, super fresh and perfectly prepared and with homemade dressing. I could eat that meal over and over again. Service was excellent, friendly and fast, but not rushed. The decor is fun and thoughtful. I can't wait to go back! read more

On the day we visited, DH and I were the first customers of the day. We were cautioned that the first orders take just a little longer to fulfill as the kitchen is just getting started for the day. We sat at the huge wraparound windows, listened to Italian crooners on the sound system and people watched while we waited. DH ordered a pepperoni pie and I ordered the Fungi pie, a wood mushroom pizza and added sausage as advised on one of the signs in the restaurant. Delicious! As I understand it, the sauce, crust and real lemonade are all made by hand in house with specially filtered water. That certainly explains the epic taste. Our hostess was especially engaging. She noticed our license plates weren't local and we spent so much time chatting DH was afraid my food would get cold. This is a delightful Gila Valley find. I had tried it before, but they were out of gluten free dough (the chef apologized that they'd had a delay in their caputo flour delivery--the special order secret ingredient in their dough). I had a salad, which was tasty, but didn't scratch the pizza itch. Fast forward a couple months and I found myself back in Safford. I was greeted warmly by the owner/hostess/waitress, who remembered the week they didn't have gluten-free flour and thanked me for returning. Before I looked at the menu, she warned me off the white sauces that are made with flour (I appreciated her being proactive on that so that I didn't get my heart set on something I couldn't have). I built my own mushrooms, spinach and artichoke cheese pizza. And...wow. Just wow. I was diagnosed celiac about 7 years ago, and this was the first pizza I've had that actually felt like pizza. It was delicious! I practically danced in my seat. I raved so much to the owner (wish i'd gotten her name) that she brought her husband/owner/chef (wish I'd gotten his name too!) to hear. He said it was important to him to get the proper "mouth-feel" and flavor so that everyone could enjoy the experience. This is next-level customer service. This will be my go-to restaurant whenever I'm in the Gila Valley. I need to go with more people, though, so that I can also try the garlic knots made with that delightful dough! Best pizza around by a long shot! My wife and I found Fancy Pizzeria after reading some scuttlebutt online about the grand opening. We live quite a ways out of town, but figured it would be a nice date night in the big city. We were not disappointed. In fact, we were ecstatic to find this place. Not only was the food delectable, but the atmosphere was nice and chill, and the staff was friendly and warm. I had the regular pepperoni pizza "well done" because I like a crispier finish to my crust. My wife had the gluten free pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and olives. She's probably a tougher critic than me, because most gluten free pizzas are hot and miss. She said this is her favorite pizza ever, and judging by her reaction after each bite, I know she's not lying It's been several months since our first visit and we have been back many times. We can't say enough good things about food, the ambiance, and the staff and owners. We love this place so much that we recommend it to our friends and family...and even the occasional stranger on the street. Service was terrific! That was the positive to the experience. Drive thru pickup. I was able to add two bags of ice at the window. Amazing ice that doesn't melt quickly might I add. Friendly staff working. Slight wait behind another customer on arrival but in and out quickly overall. Why I'm in the middle... the food had so much left to be desired. Enjoyed the bread on the garlic knots but where was the garlic? I may have higher expectations of a stronger flavor? The marinara taste ok but was very thin. The pizzas were dry. I understand wood fired but there wasn't great flavor either. It was ok. Don't enjoy the lack of sizes and the price was a bit high for the pizza. I would have gotten extra cheese on the bambino because it felt like it was on half the pizza. We did get a free pizzookie because the order was over $50 but that's the downfall too. Two 12" pizzas w/1 extra veggie topping and garlic knots was $59 subtotal. Steep for what it was. Not bad, not great experience. Would try again hoping to have better outcome. Hidden gem for lunch. Personable and aware owner. Very focused menu with something for everyone, and regular specials. Our group enjoyed a gluten free pizza - so delicious!, a handmade sandwich (not gluten free) that was highly praised, and a caprese-style salad that I could have lived in. This unassuming restaurant just south of Main Street in Safford is easy to miss, but don't! My partner had heard about it from some friends and we went to try their pizza. We got the greek and it was so good! The server was super friendly and helped us choose the modifications we wanted for the best price.
