Well We'll Well! Me & My Wife went to El Coronado this morning for Breakfast. I guess if I had to rate this restaurant on a scale of 1-10 (10 being Excellent), I'd give them a high 3. Customer service isn't the best. For the most part, the Waitresses are friendly and they really try, although they seem to get overwhelmed when busy. Not their fault. The cooks don't help as they are very slow! Be prepared for an extended wait ‍ it's Safford. Not many choices in town to get great service. Now the food isn't bad. Great Steak Picado & Eggs - Tacos are very good. Their Green Enchiladas (Chicken - Beef - or Cheese) are delicious. They do have Menudo on the weekends ( 4 out of 10) - just expect an extended wait when you visit, if you're lucky enough to get a table ‍‍ sometimes I just choose to walk out and take my chances at one of the two places in town to eat breakfast at! I've shared my customer concerns with management, but they don't seem to care ‍ Plus they frequently close down for the weekend ànd/or close either at 12 noon or 2/3 pm. We keep going back cause it's a nice cozy - home town restaurant with as close to home style American/Mexican Food you'll get in this area of Eastern Arizona! I still recommend it! oh, I do see here reviews from as back as 10 years ago I don't believe that's fare either they have gone through change in ownership in the last few years, so please give them a try and post your review - experience. This was a place we found on our way home. I have to say it was packed! Even though it was full they were friendly and continued to refill our drinks while we waited for our food. So even when it took a little longer to get food the service made up for it. Breakfast came in fresh off the stove and perfectly cooked. My eggs and bacon were wonderful. The potatoes were cooked well but in my opinion a little bland. I asked for some salsa to add to my potatoes to fix them and then all was good. read more

I've always loved coming to eat steak picado and eggs here. Lately, the potatoes aren't quite browned enough to give them that nice flavor. Need to cook those over medium eggs a little slower/lower but other than that. Very delicious! I will keep coming back. read more

I want to give a shout out to Celeste. She is an awesome server and really friendly. She is presentable and well spoken and efficient at her job. She remembers us and our preferences so I feel like at home. There is no comparison of Celeste to the other wait staff who are just plain not good at their jobs and it is a really bad look. These people need to know they work for tips and what that means for them and there employees. Training is key. Without Celeste this business would not be doing as well. Thx Celeste! read more

This place used to be closed on Mondays or Tuesdays. On all their internet pages it says they're open everyday now. Last couple days they're just randomly closed with no sign and no answer on the phone. They should make it known or post a sign saying they changed their hours. Kinda lame when there's not very many breakfast places in town. If the family had something come up that's fine just post on the door. If it's new hours, change all your internet hours so people don't show up to your business. There was 4-5 families that showed up the same time I did expecting to eat this morning. Rode into town from Tucson and decided to try out this diner on Main Street for Sunday morning breakfast. It was a pleasant and inexpensive little diner that could use some better upkeep. Nice friendly people, full menu, booth and counter seating. A very quaint place. I have lots of coffee and eggs, bacon and toast. The sour dough was very good, not thick but tasty. Lot's of locals coming in, this was not my first choice, but one of the only ones open on Sunday morning. Standard breakfast fare, try them out for a casual and local breakfast. Safford in general has limited options, but if visiting I can recommend El Coronado for Breakfast, esp on Sunday. read more

What I ordered: Green chicken enchiladas & a bowl of menudo Date: 11/1 First time: it was my first time trying it after the remodel & new owners. I was in town visiting family over the Halloween weekend and was craving a nice bowl of menudo that Friday. Finding a place that has good menudo in Safford isn't easy but I have had El Coronado's menudo in the past and it was great. My mom and I decided to take a trip to El Coronado for dinner. I hadn't been in since before the remodel so I was very impressed with the new layout and revamp this place had. It looks a little more modern and up to date without losing the authentic Mexican feel. I loved that they had a mixture of awesome Mexican music and country as well. Now, for the important part; the food. I ordered a small bowl of menudo and the green chicken enchiladas with 2 fried eggs on top. (if you haven't tried enchiladas with an egg on top you're missing out) It took about 25-30 minutes to get our food so I wouldn't recommend coming in if you're in a hurry. The menudo had AMAZING flavor but my only complaint was that there wasn't enough hominy in the bowl. To be fair, I did ask for them to add more soup so its not so dry so they might have had to take out some hominy. The enchiladas were still very good. I was unsure if they were still using the old recipe because I use to love the green enchilada sauce they used but to my surprise they still had it! Overall, our visit here was lovely. I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating. If you're looking for some good menudo or just some good Mexican food I'd definitely recommend El Coronado. read more

Yum! Nice little authentic place we found on our trip. While the food did take forever, I found it to be really delicious and reasonably priced. I am always happy to find hole in the wall places with great food; this place is definitely both! Our waitress (dark hair and tattoo on her right arm) was exceptionally nice and pleasant. The place isn't anything fancy but it was exactly what we were looking for. Seriously awesome Mexican food. The kids chicken strips were obviously house made and wonderful. The curly fries weren't overly seasoned. The green chili beef enchiladas were probably too spicy for me but we're so good I couldn't stop eating them, just took advantage of a glass of milk afterwards. The beans were flavorful without being spicy. I'm sad I couldn't try the carrot cake, but the person who makes it is out for surgery. Wow - never again. The food was ok...I give it a 2-3. The service was probably the worst I have had in decades of eating out. No greeting, no thank you, no rush, lots of loud personal gossip between the four ladies running the front (apparently they are all named "dude"). They absolutely do not understand the "service" part of restaurants. They were annoyed when I asked for a menu after being ignored for an unreasonable amount of time. This evening me and my Wife went out to eat dinner as we do on most Taco Tuesday's. Lately we've been going to El Coronado on Main Street in Safford. The tacos are delicious and very reasonable in price. They serve shredded and ground beef tacos (soft or hard). I must warn you that the waitresses (young ladies more interested in their cell phone and Facebook, than paying attention to their customers - tables). For some reason or other, the evening crew - waitresses seem to be the worst, like they just don't care to attend to their customers. So, if you are able to tolerate low speed waitresses, the wait and frustration is worth the good food. In my opinion, it also used to be that way with the morning - breakfast crew, but they've seem to have made great improvements with service and the food is awesome.. I hope those Facebook waitresses get put in check and made to put away those cell phones and start taking care of their customers. Thank you. read more

I recently moved to Safford from Denver and after trying several different Mexican restaurants, El Coronado is the best. They have some tasty green chile salsa that has a nice spice and some excellent huevos rancheros. Well worth trying. read more

El Cornaro is the best place in town to have breakfast, their Stuffed Quesadillas are the size of manhole covers. Their Salsa is Award-winning and Excellent. Can't get enough of their coffee! read more

Every time I go to Safford I make Coronados one of my stops. Huevos rancheros are so tasty and their salsa is amazing. Love the old school feel of this restaurant always full of locals. Empanadas with fruit filling are worth the trip by themselves! read more

Staff was great, it's clean however I ordered a burrito and it only came with bland beef and nothing else.

We used to go here all the time til 1 of their waitresses was completely rude with me. She argued with me on what I had ordered and took it off so that way it looked like I never ordered that particular side. Would not discount anything. The staff is rude. read more

Absolutely the worst mexican food I have ever had. First they did not include half of my order for a to go order. After getting home and trying it out I soon realized it was definitely not worth the trouble to go back for it. The meat used in the green chile and the beef tacos tasted and looked like it came straight out of a can. Completely horrible. The rice was wet and clumpy and tasted like it was just mixed up with a can of crushed tomatoes. No flavor at all. The only decent thing was the beans. They had a good flavor but they were not mashed all the way and occasionally you would get a whole bean that felt and tasted like it hadn't been cooked all the way through. This use to be one of our favorite restaurants. The wait staff has changed so much but we decided to give it a try anyway, because we genuinely loved this place, but now with the crummy service it is just not worth it anymore. Every time we decide to give it one more go, it ends up worse and worse and just reinforces our negative experience from the time before. Great Mexican food at a great price. They also have a large selection of traditional American fare. The salsa is a best winner of the SalsaFest competition. They are noted for their huevos rancheros, which are about the best I've had. A interesting side note is that they made their own thousand island dressing, so you may want to order a side salad just to try it. I travel a lot for work, so I am always looking for different food to eat and I am loyal to family based businesses. This experience unfortunately, was not good! Called to do take out and I was quoted 15 to 20 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes later and my food was not ready, it took 48 mins. There seemed to be no sense of urgency, the place was not packed. When I received the food it was the wrong order. I ordered green enchiladas and I received a red enchilada and a tamale??? The building was hot and very uncomfortable and I did not want to wait for them to give me my correct order. The teenager at the counter said,"well I didn't take your order"??? The customer service was horrible, run by teenage girls that couldn't stay off their phones. Absolutely clueless! No adult supervision! Food was bland and had no flavor, very unfortunate. The chicken had seemed like it had been boiled to death, it should have been roasted, which is how "real" Mexican food is made. The tamale was dry and flavorless with very little meat or red chili. Rice had potential but it was burnt and you could taste the burnt. Beans were more of a paste, almost like taco bell, minus any flavor. Enchilada fries were just flavorless wet fries with cheese. They advertised a lot of promises and couldn't deliver on any of them. read more

Disgusting! Asked if they had Menudo, waitress said yes then ignored us. Had to ask for everything. Finally got the Menudo. It was canned Juanitas!! And it was watered down!! Store bought tortillas turned to crackers by the time they hit the table! It was awful. When the waitress asked how everything was we asked it the Menudo was canned, "Oh no, I have seen them cut up the meat". They cut the meat for canned Juanitas? Still had to pay the $7.00 a piece for the canned slop I could have heated up at home! Will NEVER go back since the waitress lied. She should have apologized and tried to make it right but charged us full price. These owners need to eat at Irene's in Belen New Mexico, they have HOMEMADE Menudo and they don't cut the meat for canned Juanitas Menudo. read more

So this place is decent for breakfast but I made the mistake of coming for dinner. I had a chicken burro which was dry chicken meat rolled up in a burro. It was pathetic. My wife had a beef burro which was just hamburger meat rolled up in a burro. She said it was very tasteless and salty. It was a very sad eating experience. read more

The food in this restaurant is the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The green chili meat appeared to be corn beef. We ordered a green chili quesadilla and a green chili burrito the beans looked and tasted like they were straight out of the can, they didn't should of taken time to doctor them up. We visited El Coronado we family. There were four of us and the food was excellent. My husband likes hot, spicy food, and this was truly authentic Mexican food. They did a great job. Our waitress was very friendly and when she got tied up at another table, because they were extremely busy, another waitress brought our food out so it wouldn't get cold. That waitress then let our waitress know. They were really friendly with us and each other. It was a great team effort! read more

Stopped in on a Saturday morning for breakfast as we love to visit local restaurants when we travel. Staff was friendly enough but the wait time was unforgivable -- 30 minutes. My husband ordered an enchilada and eggs over easy. I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon & potatoes and toast. When our meals finally showed up, my eggs were inedible; they had been left on the flat top so long that there was a brown crust on both sides and the bacon was dripping in grease. Toast was burnt on one side. My husband described the enchiladas as merely "OK" thinking the enchilada sauce was probably canned. All in all, his breakfast was nothing to brag about, according to him. The waitress never returned to our table, so we walked up to the counter to settle our bill. A different server assisted us and asked the obligatory question: "How was everything?" to which I responded: "Not very good. My eggs were inedible." "Oh sorry," was the response. We won't worry about stopping there again. How can you screw up breakfast? Ask their cook if you really want to know. I gave it two stars because my husband was able to eat most of his meal. We stopped for a protein bar for me at the local Circle K on the way out of town. read more

Went to the El Coronado today 12/24/2015. Not a lot of people in the place. Ordered water to drink and got the first one dumped on my foot. Ordered our food. 2 Chimichangas, a Taco, Enchilada Fries and a Cheese Burger medium well. Had to continually ask the waitress for my water that she had dumped on the floor and my foot. Waited for our food about 35 minutes. Had to go ask her how long it would be and her answer was "For What", the food we told her. The food came and the Burger was smaller than one from Mc Donalds and it was cooked as hard as a rock. The Chimichangas were Dry inside and not really worth eating but what do you do when you have waited this long. I could not and DID NOT eat the Burger, my wife could not eat the Taco and got sick to her stomach after we were out of the resturante. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. We told the staff what we thought and they did not have anything to say. read more
