If you haven't visited La Paloma yet, shame on you. The food is incredible. The owner, Mike, personally checks with his customers to make sure they are happy. Truth is, I can't recommend any specific dish, because they all are wonderful. The servers are very accommodating and will tend to any request. There are nice decorations throughout, without being kitchy or obnoxious. All in all, you really owe it to yourself to visit soon. read more

We came on a Sunday at 1 p.m. It was busy our wait for a table was about 15 minutes for the 4 of us. Looks like we came during the lunch and after church rush. Our food tasted good but was cold by the time it got to us which was disappointing especially when the plate is $16. Also got the Pineapple infused Margaritas and it was strong which was pleasant. We lacked utensils, the coffee was overextracted and tasted stale, and creamer was not provided until we requested it from other staff members, including the host and other waitresses. Our booth was situated near a high-traffic area to the kitchen, and it was evident that our waitress did not check in on us, instead walking by with a sideways glance. We were not familiar with her prior to our visit. If I were to return, I would request a different waitress if she were assigned to our table again. I travel a lot for work and this showed up as being a part of the "salsa trail" contest winners so since my last experience in Safford for food was not good I decided to give this a try. It was really solid Mexican food! I had the green chili chimi and the person with me had tacos and we both finished out plates! I had mine smothered in enchilada sauce and it was amazing! The salsa was super flavorful. The place was quirky and fun and the menu is quite extensive. This will be a repeat place each time I have to go to Safford. Rice is good, refried beans were good, wishing I had got to try a margarita but I was "on the clock." So next time! They were packed for lunch but food still came out really quickly. First I asked for extra cheese on my bean and cheese burro because most places just put beans so I wanted more cheese and I didn't get extra cheese so I thought no big deal right? Found this place while passing through and were blown away by how good it turned out to be. Coming in they had a sign that they were winners of the 2021 Salsa Fest so we were looking forward to this. The chips and salsa were delicious, the chips were so thin and perfectly salted for the salsa which was evenly balanced. For the main course we ordered the carnitas plato which came with sides of whole beans and calabacitas. Their slow cooked pork was amazing. It was the best of all the things we had ordered, the flavor was just mind blowing. When I rolled it into the fresh tortilla and added the fixins (guac, cheese, corn, crema, pico de gallo) it was a flavor bomb, I savored every bite! Next best was the tacos de carne asada, went with beef from the waitress's recommendation. Their meat was soft and tender, the taste was completely not expected in a small town. I want to say it tasted better than even some I've had in Phoenix.. the tacos came with Spanish rice and refried beans, both delicious. Last was tacos de camarones, because I wanted to try their grilled shrimp. There was a green sauce in the tacos that were not to my taste - I'm not one for sweet in my entree. I'll be back for their meat, not their seafood, we'll just say that. This plate came with black beans and calabacitas, both of which were delicious. The calabacitas came with big chunks of squash, they did not skimp on the sides, and the flavor was great. For the toddler we ordered a kids plate, cheese crisp, Spanish rice and refried beans. The cheese crisp was too tough for her so I ended up eating it but she enjoyed everything else we had ordered for ourselves, including the tortilla chips and salsa. Her meal came with a Superman fried ice cream. I was rather impressed with the cream they used to top the fried ice cream, because it reminded me of Mexican hot chocolate. She enjoyed the ice cream (but what kid doesn't haha) and so did her clothes - toddlers amirite... Some other random details.. their napkins were top quality, nearly cloth, surprisingly! And their to go boxes are of the compostable kind, also a pleasant surprise to find environmentally conscious here! In the waiting area is a drink fridge with bottled sodas, we tried the Sioux City Sarsaparilla. I was looking for Mexican coke since they had a selection of non-generic drinks but they didn't have that. Overall the dinner was delicious, the music was enjoyable (several songs from my salsa dancing days!), the decor was pretty special (including a canvas of Frida!), and I'm so glad we stumbled upon this little gem. read more

Such a bummer! This is one of our favorite places to eat in the Safford, Az area, so today was a huge disappointment. The service was so bad, and our waiter Nick (the owner??) was rude and condescending. The food was good as usual (except they were out of one of the dishes that was ordered at our table, and they didn't advise - & substitute- until they were bringing out everyone else plates!), but having to wait for our water, our chips, to order, and for our food was a huge bummer. Well.... What can I say my food was good, but that was it. WORST SERVICE I have ever had. I had to find some one to get us a table. Then it took is 15 mins to get our drinks and chips and salsa. After another 15 mins we got our order taken. Then another 30 to get our food. After being there for 2 hrs we got our food to go and had to leave our debit card with family to pay for us because we had to get home to the babysitter. When the food did finally come out it - my husbands sides were wrong and my SIL was missing sides. We were then overcharged because they didn't give $2 off for the daily special. I have been eating at La Paloma since I was a baby and I even worked there for a while. It is by far my favorite Mexican food restaurant! Everything is homemade, fresh, and spicy! The red enchilada sauce is so delicious! When I worked there people would always say how good it was but want to know what brand we used. It's made fresh in the kitchen! They soak red chili pods to make red juice and make the sauce from scratch. So if you are wondering what to order I highly suggest something with the enchilada sauce. The Green Chili Burro Enchilada Style is probably the most popular, but I personally love the basic order of Cheese Enchiladas with a fried egg on it. There are plenty of great options to choose from though like the Salsa Trail Special or the Mexican Street Tacos. La Paloma has wonderful atmosphere and a hard working staff to go with! It does tend to get pretty busy, so it always a good idea to call ahead to reserve a table. It's definitely worth the wait though! read more

The food was really good, prices are average but service was horrible! I came with my 3 little kids, 2 in a double stroller and my mom. The guy who was our server put us in the back dark room and was extremely rude. It almost seemed that he hates kids, total discrimination. He didn't bring our drinks or refilled our chips without me asking him to a few times. I explained when we first arrived that we were traveling through and didn't have much time yet he still forgot about us, our orders, and was really slow (people coming after us, being seated in the main room were almost done with their meals!). He didn't speak in Spanish and the Mexican hospitality was completely non-existent. The lack of good service totally killed my appetite.
