The pork was seasoned right, and everything worked together the way it should. But honestly, the bread is what sold me. They make it fresh in-house, and you can tell. It's light, airy, with just the right bite--exactly what a banh mi is supposed to be. The spot itself is small, but clean and well kept. It's more of a walk-up-and-order setup, not a sit-down-with-a-server kind of place, which I actually don't mind for this style of food. Just know what you're walking into. Drinks are grab-and-go from a cooler--sodas, water, tea--so don't expect fountain drinks or freshly brewed sweet tea. That said, they do have some interesting specialty drinks on the menu like fresh sugar cane with durian and kumquat, which I'll probably try next time just out of curiosity. great food, solid spot, and absolutely worth the stop. We'll be back.

So glad I found a decent Banh Mi spot in the area…read more The fresh spring rolls are prepackaged, but made fresh daily so they are pretty good. The sandwiches are good, but coming from having fantastic options in Tampa I have to knock them a star for the French bread not being as authentic as I'm accustomed to, and the "butter" (really mayonnaise) needed to be on the sandwich or it's pretty dry. (of course I didn't ruin my sandwich with mayonnaise) The meat wasn't lacking flavor, but it still could use a bit more seasoning and the beef was also a bit dry. Disclaimer: I don't eat pork or mayo so you can take my review with a grain of salt!! They also have a sugarcane drink that you could get with kumquat or Durian. I got the Dorien flavor and it was great. My mom got kumquat and she said it wasn't very flavorful. I'll order a chicken bunny sandwich next time to see if they deserve an extra star or a demotion. Overall, I'm glad that this place exists next to a shopping plaza with more Vietnamese options. I'll definitely be back on one of my trips to Costco when I'm staying in Pensacola.

On the menu today was the shrimp boil plate, bbq pulled pork sandwich that you can get as a combo, gumbo and shrimp bisque. So we got everything!! The shrimp boil plate was impressive! Loaded with well cooked and seasoned shrimp, corn, sausage, and potatoes. It comes with cocktail sauce and a seasoned butter dip. The gumbo was fantastic and meaty but the shrimp bisque was fine dinning! So good! Our son had the sandwich and he let me have a little taste. Nice sweet tender pork on a soft bun. Right up his alley. Great prices too. The Shrimp Lady is delivering high quality food with friendly service from a cute and modest location. A must try and if we lived closer, it would be a regular stop for us.

It's a white sauce kind. I take a way one star cuz they ran out of BBQ sandwich and it's only 1PM. In addition to home cooked gumbo the lady also sells fresh shrimps caught from the Bay. I saw some frozen crab meats, fish such as flounder, salmon, amberjack and Mississippi catfish. This is not a formal sitting down diner so don't come in expecting a typical restaurant experience. But the food is authentic, honest and full of love.

10/10 -- We'll definitely be back!…read more My husband and I don't eat pork, so we were excited to try the Muffanotta, and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. It was delicious and made with some of the best bread I've ever tasted. I also ordered a bowl of chili, which was hearty, flavorful, and generously packed with beef. We're not usually soda drinkers, but we decided to try the house-made root beer, served in a frosted glass. It was incredible--rich, refreshing, and unlike any root beer we've had before. The kind gentleman who took our order was genuinely delighted to see how much we enjoyed everything and even surprised us with a second root beer on the house, which was such a thoughtful touch. The little market was another highlight. It was filled with unique, wholesome products, many of which are sourced from the community's farms and workshops around the country and the world. It made for a fun and interesting shopping experience. And whatever you do, don't leave without trying the sweet potato pound cake. It was easily one of the most delicious desserts I've ever had--moist, rich, and completely unforgettable. Between the outstanding food, warm hospitality, and unique atmosphere, this was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Highly recommended!

I'm playing catch up on reviews…read more I've been to a lot of places the last few months, checked in so I can review it, but I'm on the road so often that it's hard to get the reviews written. I have a long back log I need to catch up on and I still have reviews from my cross country trip to Oregon that I still need to write, and that was back in December! I'm trying... A few months ago, I found myself out on Lott Road, and decided to scratch a long overdue itch by visiting Highway 217 Cafe and Grill. I've heard pretty great things about this local gem. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I have a wicked soft spot for local owned business. In fact, I tend to gravitate toward local businesses over corporate owned chains. I stepped inside the dimly lit building where elderly couples and workers on their lunch breaks congregated with a warm and sincere welcome from the young ladies working there. This is what I love most about local business, is that honest interaction and sense of pride and community these kinds of places have. It just makes you feel like they want to earn your business, and care about your experience there. I was told I could sit wherever I chose and they brought the menu, and while there was a lot to choose from, I wanted to keep it simple, and went with a bacon cheeseburger, medium rare. I guess I tend to default back to my "Rik's Burger Review" days when I get the chance, and since it's where my review experience really began, it always feels nice to go back to the basics. I ordered onion rings instead of fries as I was in the mood for them, and I like them a little bit more. They brought the burger and it had the fries with it, and the girl realized immediately that the kitchen had made an error. She told me I could keep the fries and she would have my onion rings out shortly. A few minutes later, this side of fantastic onion rings showed up, and they were nothing short of amazing! The onion rings were appropriately crispy, and the breading had quite a zing, which was pleasant tasting. The onion inside was firm, hot and not soggy in the slightest. The burger was perfectly cooked as requested, the meat was seasoned well, it was juicy and succulent, the bacon was very crispy but not burned, and the cheese was bubbly melted to the burger. This was nothing short of a perfect meal! Also, they took the onion rings off my check because they were late getting them to me. I left full, happy and swore I would go back again. It's a bit out of the way from where I live. But if I'm out that way, I'll definitely be back.
