This Pret is by Patisserie Valerie in the new Silverburn extension and again, has the nice open-air feeling without having to worry about freezing your butt off. I'd already made up my mind to try Five Guys so my trip here was purely for research purposes. They stock exactly what every other Pret stocks - yoghurt, fruit salad, toasties, panini, wraps, sandwiches, salad boxes and ciabatta rolls. It all looks incredibly appetising and their motto is something about being made fresh in-store daily. (From looking at their website, they then donate the leftover food each day to charity which is great). I like Pret more than most other quick sandwich spots and imagine this will be very popular with the people who work at Silverburn who are sick of sandwiches from Tesco or Marks. For me however, if I was going to eat at Silverburn I'd rather have a nice sit in meal at one of of the restaurants nearby so I'm not sure I'd return, sadly.

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!

A wee update as I've now been back to Pane e Vino to try their takeaway options. I fancied a…read moresandwich and initially ordered a vegetarian sandwich with grilled aubergine and peppers, but they were all out of aubergine. Sad times. I went with my second choice which was the pastrami, Emmental & gherkin which is served on foccacia. It was made fresh while I waited and everything was prepared for my order - the pastrami and Emmental sliced then and there, which was nice to see. It was all wrapped up in greaseproof paper and came to £4.50 which is a little more than I'd normally like to pay for a sandwich. That being said, it was lovely and everything was perfectly constructed and portioned. There is seating inside the deli as well, so you can get your sandwich (or pasta) to have in, which I think I'll try next time.

Bread, Ham, Cheese Please…read more.. So decided to go for a hurl* the other day and got a bit hungry, so stopped at Pane e Vino for a plate of soup and a piece. It's old school and every corner of this deli is an Italian grocery discovery. But for now it was immediate consumption we were after. There were two soups on offer, both veg brothy (£3.50) but being cold outside that was ok and there're plenty of sandwiches (£4.50-£5.50) to choose from, but no soup and sandwich deal :-/ There's a feel of community here and we happened to stumble upon the "largest panettone in Scotland" raffle. All good fun and I can see why the warmth of service draws regulars back for their Sunday morning cappuccino. Just be aware though, when you order a ham and cheese sandwich (and there are many varieties of ham and cheese here), that's exactly what you get - Bread, ham, cheese. It is conveniently located at the end of the walk through Electric Glen so there was constantly people coming in to see about whether they could get a table. We hadn't tried The Boathouse, despite it being in our local park. When we arrived last night I was impressed by the decor - they've definitely gone for a boating theme but it's done in a very classy, relaxed way rather than being naff and tacky. We had a comfortable table for 4 by the window looking over the pond which would be an excellent spot to dine in summer. I was initially a little disappointed by the menu as it all seemed like standard café grub and the prices gave me the impression it might not be a great standard. There's sandwiches, baked potatoes, burgers, wraps plus a hot dishes section with fish & chips, macaroni cheese, beef chilli etc. And they have a separate breakfast meal (my favourite meal of the day!) I then read the cute little info box on the menu that says "real people make real food from real ingredients" and all outsourced food is marked on the menu so you know what is/isn't made on site. Understably things like ice cream, pasta plus some cakes/bread are bought in but it was pleasing to see the rest is made on site. I opted for the mac cheese - after doubling checking with the waitress what she thought of it. I think the price was around £5.50 so I was a bit worried it would be tiny or substard. When it arrived it was in a decent sized ramekin with garlic bread and side salad. It was incredibly cheesy and creamy and I'm pleased to report it was one of the best macaroni cheese dishes I've tried to date. Big call I know, as I eat a lot of macaroni cheese! My only comment about it was that the noodles were really small (perhaps maccheroncelli pasta which I had to google to check the name of!). But that wasn't anything to complain about, just something to note! The extra side of chips I ordered were also really good - nothing to rave about, but decent chips all the same. Service was exceptional - even without having to take into account how busy The Boathouse must be while Electric Glen was on. The place didn't feel busy, the staff didn't seem rushed and they were all calm and helpful. The waitress even came back to ask what I thought of the macaroni cheese after I'd finished it which I thought was nice of her. The bill for a meal for four people (mains only, a soft drink each) came to a very reasonable £40. If you want to have some drinks, they are BYOB with no charge for corkage. They also have free wifi. Seriously - this place is awesome. For proper, decent food right on our doorstep, I'm totally kicking myself for not visiting this absolute gem sooner and can't wait to go again.

Furthermore, numerous people make specific trips to Pollok House just for this restaurant. Obviously, this indicates that it serves decent food. Indeed, it does. In fact, I'd go a bit further to say it serves up lovely food. The menu has a good selection: there's the usual soup, sandwich type deals; baked potatoes with an array of fillings and similar standard cafe food as well as lovely lasagne's and the like. Moreover, they even have daily specials which are actually specials. Meaning that these change on a daily basis and are freshly made. Yesterday these were carrot and rosemary soup (delicious) and a bacon and rosemary tart served with new baby potatoes and a fresh side salad (which looked AMAZING). They also offer the usual range of coffees, hot chocolates and soft drinks. These can all be enjoyed with a delicious slice of one of their many deserts. This is perfected by the fact that you can pop in here to have just a cake and a coffee which very few places still accommodate for. The staff are lovely, pleasant and extremely efficient and their service is quick. Even at their busiest times, they keep their cool are never get nippy or board-line rude which I've witnessed in other places over the years. Definitely worth a visit.

As well as a great choice of savoury options their sweet offerings are off the charts amazing - the donuts are INCREDIBLE, best donuts I have ever tasted, and again with amazing flavours and topping to choose from. Because I really really do. On this particular visit I ordered a foot long cheesy pig dog, which is a hotdog covered in bacon and melted cheese and was exactly as delicious as it sounds....although this is definitely something I need to eat with a fork and knife because it is so big and messy. For dessert I choose what can only be described as the king of all donuts - a cookies donut sandwich! I'll give you a moment just to process the thought of a cookie donut sandwich!....... This is one of their regular freshly baked donuts slathered in fondant and sandwiched between two crunchy but chewy peanut butter cookies, then topped with honeycomb and more fondant - are you speechless? I certainly was when I saw it and I can't even begin to tell you how epic it tasted, even if it did take me 3 sittings to finish it. A wonderfully meaty affair, but all of it tasted great, soft and moist turkey breast, nicely peppered pastrami and... some ham I think too? Chuck some BBQ sauce in there, throw it all on a ciabatta, toast it and deliver to my face hole, stat!! Is what I didn't say to the lady who served me, but it was something like that... And I'm salivating now thinking back to it. So many cafes are closed on a Monday but not here - thankfully! It's easy to find on Mosspark Blvd and has parking out the front as well as a carpark to the side. I expected it was going to be a casual kind of place, but it's actually more like a cafe with a restaurant in the next room. It's a really nice space and they've obviously put love and thought into the decor - some nice cookbooks around the place and prints on the walls. I looked over the menu - there's your standard cafe offerings like sandwiches, baked potato, salads and a few larger dishes. I ended up going for a chicken mayo baked potato as it'd been ages since I'd had one. It arrived quickly and was massive - there's no scrimping on the portion sized here! It came with a side salad as well as some crisps on the plate (which always makes me laugh). The potato was perfection - a lovely crispy skin, perfectly cooked inside and well-tasty chicken mayo. I'd stupidly sat facing the cake cabinet, so had to get a pavlova for my personal trainer to take away. They boxed it up and made sure it didn't get squashed by taping the lid loosely down which was appreciated. The ladies who work here are so nice - very professional and kind at the same time. The service in the seating area was more like restaurant service than cafe, they came back to check up on me and made sure my drink was topped up. I really liked that. My bill was something like £9 for a drink, the baked potato and cake and I was pretty happy with that. I'd go out of my way to come back here as I thought it was really nice compared to your average cafe.
