Oh yeah!!! Sophie K and I were on an adventure out to Braehead when we decided to finally check out Five Guys. Being American, I was a little biased because I've eaten and loved Five Guys in the states, I was just hoping that it was just as good here as it is there.
I can happily report that it's just as good and makes me yearn that much more for home!
We walked up and were quickly served as the queue was pretty small. I decided to go with the little bacon cheese burger with mayo, lettuce, pickles and onions. All toppings for the burgers are free and there is a huge list from which to choose. I also ordered a little cajun fries and a regular drink. £12 for everything, which at first I thought was a little steep, but once we sat down with the goods, I was pretty much convinced it's great value for money.
The burger is hands down one of the better burgers you can get in the city (even though we were at Braehead), and it's great value. It may have been called a little burger, but it was huge and packed full of crispy bacon, cheese, and fresh veggies. The pickles were even sour (none of this sweet pickle crap), and that made my heart sing! The little fries were anything but little. It was a massive portion that was spilling out of the small cup they were in, only to be topped (in the brown bag) with a bucket load more. When you look at my picture, you're probably thinking it's an ok size, but seriously, I had already eaten at least 10 fries waiting for Sophie K to get her food. Between the two of us, we could have easily shared a little fries and had left overs. Next time we probably will.
The fountain soda machine is a kids dream, really. First off, free refills. It's one of those fancy coke machines that have been around in the states for ages, but I think it's more of a new thing here. I love it because I can get cherry coke zero (or raspberry, lime, lemon, orange, cherry vanilla and vanilla) and they also had grape fanta. GRAPE fanta!! For those of you outside of the UK reading this, Grape is not a flavour here. If it is, I never see it. We have blackcurrant instead which is the devils flavour. When I saw that they had grape fanta, I was pretty over the moon.
All in all, this place is one of my favs. Has been since my dad introduced us to it back in the states. It's full of great memories with my dad and now new ones with my best pea. The staff were friendly and helpful and there was always someone around picking up any random rubbish lying about. They don't have peanuts to shell while you wait like they do in America, but that's ok, I never really went for them anyway.
I can't wait to go to the one in city centre! Value for money, great food and lots of it!!! read more
