It is conveniently located at the end of the walk through Electric Glen so there was constantly people coming in to see about whether they could get a table. We hadn't tried The Boathouse, despite it being in our local park. When we arrived last night I was impressed by the decor - they've definitely gone for a boating theme but it's done in a very classy, relaxed way rather than being naff and tacky. We had a comfortable table for 4 by the window looking over the pond which would be an excellent spot to dine in summer. I was initially a little disappointed by the menu as it all seemed like standard café grub and the prices gave me the impression it might not be a great standard. There's sandwiches, baked potatoes, burgers, wraps plus a hot dishes section with fish & chips, macaroni cheese, beef chilli etc. And they have a separate breakfast meal (my favourite meal of the day!) I then read the cute little info box on the menu that says "real people make real food from real ingredients" and all outsourced food is marked on the menu so you know what is/isn't made on site. Understably things like ice cream, pasta plus some cakes/bread are bought in but it was pleasing to see the rest is made on site. I opted for the mac cheese - after doubling checking with the waitress what she thought of it. I think the price was around £5.50 so I was a bit worried it would be tiny or substard. When it arrived it was in a decent sized ramekin with garlic bread and side salad. It was incredibly cheesy and creamy and I'm pleased to report it was one of the best macaroni cheese dishes I've tried to date. Big call I know, as I eat a lot of macaroni cheese! My only comment about it was that the noodles were really small (perhaps maccheroncelli pasta which I had to google to check the name of!). But that wasn't anything to complain about, just something to note! The extra side of chips I ordered were also really good - nothing to rave about, but decent chips all the same. Service was exceptional - even without having to take into account how busy The Boathouse must be while Electric Glen was on. The place didn't feel busy, the staff didn't seem rushed and they were all calm and helpful. The waitress even came back to ask what I thought of the macaroni cheese after I'd finished it which I thought was nice of her. The bill for a meal for four people (mains only, a soft drink each) came to a very reasonable £40. If you want to have some drinks, they are BYOB with no charge for corkage. They also have free wifi. Seriously - this place is awesome. For proper, decent food right on our doorstep, I'm totally kicking myself for not visiting this absolute gem sooner and can't wait to go again.

I wasn't sure where the cafe was in the park - if you're driving and wanting to park near to the closest entrance, park near the Lubnaig Road entrance and it's only about a 1 minute walk from there. The cafe is in the tennis pavilion and it's a beautiful restoration job, appealing from the outside and cosy inside. I didn't expect it to be quite so busy on a Thursday afternoon but nearly every table was taken - thankfully I managed to grab one of the last ones. There's seating for about 30 people inside (at a rough guess) as well as some seats outside if you want to brave the cold. There's table service so I had a quick look over the menu and knew that French Toast was what I needed for the day. Served with bacon or berry compote and for £7.50 I was pretty impressed with the portion - on lovely thick bread it was just the right size and a good amount of compote (I actually didn't need it all, which was a first). I love that breakfast is served all day and can see myself heading back here very soon. It's got a nice vibe to it and the staff were pretty friendly. The menu might be short but I actually prefer that over a really long menu where you can tell that nothing will be fresh. The much anticipated Dandelion Cafe opened this week in the former tennis pavilion in Newlands…read morePark. Based on this morning's visit it looks like they've got the measure of their local customers. Yummy mummies ( and grans ) were out in force with their babes and toddlers as were a fair selection of the park's dogs (accompanied by their doting walkers). Dogs are welcome at the outside tables and in the covered enclosed area along the front of the building. A waitress distributed some complimentary dog muffins which no doubt will ensure repeat visits - dog icecream is also available I believe. My dog loving but not dog owning companion was in heaven. The decor is bright and tasteful - love the unusual vintage chairs - and the staff are friendly and helpful. The fruit scone was freshly baked and one of the nicest I've had recently. Served with home made jam it was a little smaller than some but that's not necessarily a bad thing, some scones are so enormous they're a tad off putting. The food we saw going to other tables looked tasty, including a cloud of fluffy scrambled eggs. There's a small selection of foody goodies and well chosen craft items on sale.

I've never tried any of the hot food (basic breakfast fayre is on offer pretty much all day) but the home-made ice cream is seriously good. There's a wee freezer with some more exotic flavoured ices as you walk in, but the star of the show is the soft vanilla... I've tried plenty of Italian ice creams served from this type of shop (it must be a Glasgow thing) but Newlands Café wins hands-down. Just don't forget to get some raspberry sauce on top! The staff, the atmosphere, the coffee. :)…read more Milk is pretty local to me, I often walk past it doing our weekly shop, located on Victoria road between Lidl and Queen's Park station which is the perfect excuse to pop in for a wee coffee on our way home on a Sunday afternoon. I've never stayed for food, although it's definitely on my list! The menu sounds fab to get a nice wee lunch. I have however had numerous coffees and a few slices of cake and they're always lovely. A great flat white, and they're always served in cute little tea cups. I've never had the same one twice. I love the attitude of Milk and the girls who run it, it's a social enterprise to supporting Asylum seeking woman. What's better than great coffee for a great cause! They also run events with different charities and organisations, and get really involved in helping their local community. I'm really looking forward to starting a sewing club at Milk next month with The Real Junk Food Project and Learn to Sew Glasgow, a great example of their community work. The girls that work there are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, it's the sort of place you could loose an afternoon sitting by the window watching the world go by... :)

It's somewhere I wouldn't normally go but Angela had been before and new some good places to visit including The Glad Café. We opted for a brunch and I had my favourite dish French Toast, bacon and maple syrup. Yum! I had a cheeky mocha and it just complicated my delicious mound of food goodness on my plate. The place was always constantly busy and it was like a tardis and much bigger than I thought. The entrance is just a door with a small shop beside it, once you walk down the corridor it just opens up and it was wonderful. It was bright and it's for all ages. I wouldn't mind seeing a gig here as they always promote local talent. It's a great project and I'm so glad, literally, it's became such a success.

Beers on tap the evening I went were Brooklyn Lager, William's Lager and Caesar Augustus, West Munich Red and a Sam Smith's beer. This is a really good selection for a place the size it is. Prices were not too bad either ~ £3.50 for a pint of the William's Bros. lager. They also had some nice bottled beers too, including the Drygate beers. The wine list looked pretty substantial also and again, pretty good prices. I did have an issue with the West Munich Red beer in that it tasted bizarre/off but thankfully the nice girl serving let me choose another beer instead. I like the decor, furniture and layout of the cafe, it feels very boho and being in here on a Winters evening with all the wee tealights lit it was delightfully cosy & just what I needed after a long, tiring week. So many cafes are closed on a Monday but not here - thankfully! It's easy to find on Mosspark Blvd and has parking out the front as well as a carpark to the side. I expected it was going to be a casual kind of place, but it's actually more like a cafe with a restaurant in the next room. It's a really nice space and they've obviously put love and thought into the decor - some nice cookbooks around the place and prints on the walls. I looked over the menu - there's your standard cafe offerings like sandwiches, baked potato, salads and a few larger dishes. I ended up going for a chicken mayo baked potato as it'd been ages since I'd had one. It arrived quickly and was massive - there's no scrimping on the portion sized here! It came with a side salad as well as some crisps on the plate (which always makes me laugh). The potato was perfection - a lovely crispy skin, perfectly cooked inside and well-tasty chicken mayo. I'd stupidly sat facing the cake cabinet, so had to get a pavlova for my personal trainer to take away. They boxed it up and made sure it didn't get squashed by taping the lid loosely down which was appreciated. The ladies who work here are so nice - very professional and kind at the same time. The service in the seating area was more like restaurant service than cafe, they came back to check up on me and made sure my drink was topped up. I really liked that. My bill was something like £9 for a drink, the baked potato and cake and I was pretty happy with that. I'd go out of my way to come back here as I thought it was really nice compared to your average cafe.
