Met the boyfriend during his lunch break, and because I'm eating for health reasons and not because things are yummy, I'm limited to where I can eat. Subway was scraping the bottom of the barrel for me as I knew I was only going to be able to get a "salad" which is basically sandwich toppings without any dressing. Don't get me wrong, they give you a lot more toppings then they would on a sub any day, its just hard to choke down a salad without dressing. No dressing on a salad you might ask? Well, basically, as I noticed a few other salads being made, their salads are basically their sandwich toppings dumped in a bowl then drenched in their sauces. I was pretty shocked when they didn't have actual salad dressings like Italian, rather their chipotle sauce and ranch, both of which I can't have let me just say, with as much sauce that goes on the salad, people may as well just eat the bread! My boyfriend, always quite pleased with his subs, got an Italian sub with all the toppings...minus tomatoes as to him, they just take up room, haha! Anyway. I never finished my bowl of toppings sans dressing as we were off in a jiffy up the road, but I'll probably suggest anywhere else for a salad. Subway should just stick to what they do best.

I saw a sign for this place in the West End, and my growling stomach led me to it. It's a lot smaller than I imagined it to be however the tables are like benches so it actually sits quite a few people and it's not awkward to sit beside someone you don't know. There's a good selection of food and the sandwiches and rolls are definitely worth the money. I had 'The Works' which was a full breakfast that once after eating, I thought I was going to have to be rolled out the shop. The waiter was quite a quirky guy which I liked and he was very friendly and quick to serve. The chef also came down and he too was very nice. I liked the feel of the place, we weren't hassled all the time by waiters and it's a place where you can get an actual lunch that doesn't involve burgers or cardboard sandwiches.

Oh well, I have places like Great Western Sandwich Co to sort me out. I needed a sandwich. I wanted it fast. And I had £10. I was going down GWR so stopped off here as it's one of the few places along here that I haven't tried (pls forgive me, GWS Co). I had heard good things from Yelpers though so I happily handed over my £10 (and got £5 change, mind you) for a Polo Loco sandwich. The space here would be good for hanging out in, there is actually more seating than I expected so I might eat in next time (although I don't think there are customer loos). The Polo Loco has: chicken marinated in cayenne, paprika and lime, sour cream, avocado, black beans and fried potatoes. Who puts potatoes on a sandwich? I didn't notice that when I ordered, or when I ate half of it but I've started to accept that carb-on-carb action is pretty standard in Glasgow. The sandwich didn't take long, I'm guessing around 3-4 minutes and was nicely presented for takeaway. It would cost £1 extra if I was going to eat in but I had places to be. I had the delicious smell of my sandwich taunting me the whole way home and I'm happy to say, after scoffing half of it that it really is delicious. The chicken is generous, the other toppings all work really well too and it's a hearty beast that I haven't been able to finish. Yet.

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

I'm a massive fan (see previous review of their St Enoch Square branch) but the only day I can make it to Nic's is a Saturday due to their opening hours and me working relatively far away. So when I heard their new establishment would be open til 11pm, 7 days a week, I was pretty excited to say the least! It's so great that the Nic's concept has really taken off, especially since most new places in Glasgow seem to be massive chain burger joints these days!!! For those who might not be aware, Nic's NYC Deli is just that. They serve glorious pressed sandwiches with delicious flavour combos, hot dogs, taco bowls and pancakes among other tasty offerings - like their amaaaazing doughnuts and American goodies such as Twinkies (which I definitely want to try at some point, just because!) This branch also has the extra addition of crepes (sweet and savoury!) so those who frequented this place as a Crêpe à Croissant can still get their fix. There's always the worry that another branch won't quite have the same feel as the one you're used to, but I'm happy to report that this definitely isn't the case with this one. I absolutely adore the decor, it's really cool without looking like it's trying too hard and the whole place looks fab! As for the food, it is as delicious as ever! The bf opted for a chili dog last night as he hadn't tried their hot dogs at all yet, and he absolutely scarfed it down, totally loved it. I got their LA Club Lite (chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and either chipotle or dijon mayo) since I hadn't had that one yet and I flipping love avocado and bacon together. It was brilliant, the bacon was done extremely well which I love, and their ciabatta bread is very tasty indeed. We were gonna get some doughnuts to take away, but our server offered us a free one each since they've just opened! Result!! I've got a Snickernut sitting in its wee bag under my desk right now, but since it's lunchtime I have a feeling it might disappear fairly soon... What more can I say? The staff are great, the food is great, the prices are great too - I think all in we paid about £12 for our food and a drink each which, for the quality and size of everything is pretty darn good! It's extremely reassuring to know that if I feel the need for a Nic's I can just pop along and get one...the downside being this might happen far too frequently from now on!!!

A Hidden Gem on Ashton Lane…read more Located on the fabulous and trendy Ashton Lane, this place is anything but typical. From the moment you step in, you can tell you're in for something special. The atmosphere is gorgeous -- a bright glass ceiling, lush plants all around, and a rustic stone floor that creates the perfect mix of romantic and relaxed. It feels ideal for a date night but also welcoming for families and friends. The food here is definitely on the high-end side, and while the portions are small for the price, what you're really paying for is excellence. Every bite showcases the chefs' skill, creativity, and attention to detail. The quality and flavor are absolutely superb -- the kind of dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else. We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.
