Bargain alert: for anyone with a Snapfax, it's worth noting that Little Italy have an offer in it where you get a 10" margarita pizza and a can of juice for only £3, what a bargain! I remember the first time I went to Little Italy, it was a rainy day in June and I'd just been to a crystal fair with a friend who's a bit of a regular here, she told me that they do the best hot chocolate ever and she wasn't wrong. The hot choc' here is so sweet and creamy and you get a pretty large mug too. It definitely warmed the cockles of my heart on that chilli day. That was about four year ago and I hadn't been back since, up until a month ago. It was so busy and we had to wait ages for a seat, as it was so busy the whole place was like a furnace and I was feeling flush. I hadn't eaten all day and to be honest, I wasn't in the best of moods. I was starving so ordered a can of Fanta, focaccia and a large slice of banana bread. I couldn't wait for my focaccia, ham with lots of melted mozzarella cheese. When it arrived, I wasn't impressed. Now, I'm a huge fan of black pepper and herbs but this guy wasn't even seasoned, jeesh! Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with my plain Jane focaccia but polished off my banana bread pretty quick. After that I doubted I'd go back to Little Italy, until I saw that too-good-to-resist-offer in Snapfax. I decided that it was probably my foul mood that had made me dislike the focaccia so much and I should give them the benefit of the doubt. Thankfully it was very quiet when I arrived and I was able to get a high seat by the window to do some people watching whilst devouring my pizza. I was so hungry and couldn't wait for the buzzer to ring to alert me that my pizza was ready. So I waited, 5 minutes - no big deal, it will be here any moment. 10 minutes - the guy who came in after me received his order. 15 minutes - same guy was polishing off his soup and sandwich. 20 minutes - still no sign of that darn pizza and soup guy was getting up to leave... then it rang. Finally! I was so hungry that when I sat down I bit straight into the piping hot pizza, no complaints on the taste but it was like 100 degrees! At the time I didn't realise just how hot it was, until I got home and couldn't eat my dinner that night as the roof of my mouth was so burnt. This was a week and a half ago and it's only just getting back to normal, it hurt so bad. I realise that this wasn't completely Little Italy's fault, but still, I had to wait so long I was ready to grab Soup Boys newspaper and eat that instead. All in all, I realise Little Italy is very popular and the pizza is very good I'm not disputing that, but for me, it just seems to be bad news and now whenever I go in it seems to put a great big black storm cloud over the rest of my day. I think it's an omen that I should probably stay away as I'm not too keen to find out what Little Italy has in store for me on my next visit.

How can I possibly emphasise how much I love Little Italy? Let me see. When I left Glasgow to travel several years ago, I spent a large percentage of the time thinking about the pizzas in Little Italy. No matter where I went in Asia, Australia or the USA, nothing could compare to those pizzas. When I sampled the famous deep dish pizzas in Chicago, all I could think about was how much better the pizzas in Little Italy were. Little Italy also sells a selection of salads and sandwiches but you would mad to purchase them. Every time your feet step into this hallowed place, it should only be for one thing and one thing alone. Pizza!

If you're looking for delicious, fresh and reasonably priced pizza in the West End, you can't go past Little Italy. While it's small on seating, there is a quick turnover so you shouldn't be waiting long. We popped in for a late afternoon pizza. I got a 10 inch pizza with bolognese and rocket (rucolo) as toppings. The pizza and a drink (can of limonata) came to around £8. You get a buzzer device which will vibrate and flash when your pizza is ready so you can collect it while it's piping hot. They have a huge range of toppings so be sure you'd be able to find something to suit your tastes, and also do pasta, focaccia and calzone. The pizza is exactly what you'd expect from a quality pizzeria - thin, crispy and light, letting the toppings take all the credit for being so tasty. I wouldn't recommend Little Italy if you're looking for a long, lingering meal. Perhaps their sister restaurant (Panevino on Argyle Street is better suited). Little Italy is great for a quick pop in with fast turn around.

What can I say? Little Italy is hands down the best pizza in the West End - and quite possibly in the whole of Glasgow. On a rainy cold night, Little Italy is a beacon of warmth and culture - please note their huge replication of the 'God Creates Adam' mural, cleverly adapted to include a lovely cup of Little Italy coffee. Little Italy use a very clever system to tell you when your pizza is ready - and there is a lot to be said for the novelty factor of this. When you order, you're given an electronic "drink mat", which will flash and vibrate violently when your order is ready. Cue a whole lot of poking it furiously while you wait (but no matter how prepared you think you are, you will always be surprised when it goes off). Although you can always count on Little Italy to be busy, you can usually find a perch somewhere, and if not - all food is available to take away. The staff are really friendly, the service is quick, and you can watch the chef make your pizza from scratch. If you're not a fan of pizza (you strange person), Little Italy also offers pasta, baguettes, cakes and hot drinks. It is a little pricey - but the pizzas are huge, and I can assure you now that they're worth every penny! (Damn, now I really, really want one).

There is only one pizza for me from Little Italy: Parma ham, hot chilli peppers, fresh basil and mozzarella...mmm! Pizza heaven... yay! I often go here as it's close to my flat, and you never have to wait more than 20 minutes for a pizza to be made fresh for you. I don't know what they do to their pizza dough, but it's yummy - not too heavy, not too light. And garlicky. Yum. I really do enjoy a pizza from here, and it's far better than Pizza Hut, or Dominoes. Seriously. Don't spend loads on a delivery from the pizza companies, go here - it's fresh n' tasty! Go for it!

Thing is, McDonald's actually is good for those things and if that's what you're after then there's no shame in that. This branch is especially handy in that it's open 24 hours. It also has a drive-thru attached, although I've never used that facility so I can't properly comment on it. In spite of being a small, drive-thru branch they still do all of the major offers (so if you get one of those vouchers for a big mac and fries for £1.99 then go ahead, they'll accept it) and they do all the standard UK menu items, including the specials as they come and go. Food-wise it's the same as any other McDonald's. They can alter your items if you have any particular requirements and they almost always have a few Big Macs and McChicken Sandwiches ready to go as you walk in. If not, they're still pretty quick. Less popular items, such as specials, salads and deli sandwiches take a bit longer, but I'm pretty sure that's true everywhere. You can expect really long queues around dinner time and long-ish queues at lunch time over the weekends. I've only ever once failed to get a seat, though. Plus, the staff are quick enough and clearing the queue and if there's a wait for fries (or if you've ordered something less popular) they'll tell you to go take a seat and will bring it to you when it's ready. The toilets are kept pretty clean and the staff do a decent job of clearing the tables whenever they get chance. The WiFi is free too, so I could even imagine people working here during quieter hours. One very important thing though - don't get the coffee. It's the worst I've ever tasted. Just don't.

Thanks to Leanne R's photo of the menu I'd already picked what I was going to have - garlic & parmesan seasoning with mango chutney sauce. As we had a bit of a drive home (maybe 20 minutes) I asked to have the sauce put in a wee tub which they happily did. Graeme also got a poke of fries and home we headed. I would say that the large portion is actually kind of small - a good serving for one person which is ok (although pricey at £2.75 for chips). We had lots of sauce in our wee tub so that was good. The chips themselves weren't very impressive and I'll admit I was really disappointed. The chips were a bit soft and pretty pale for chips that are meant to be twice cooked. When we'd ordered in the shop we only had to wait maybe two minutes so perhaps they weren't cooked fresh. They are pretty chunky for frites. The mayo was ok - I wouldn't say I could overly detect the mango chutney flavour though. Sadly, these didn't live up to expections. I've had some amazing Belgian fries and these didn't make the cut. I would definitely go back as I'm not sure if it was just new-opening issues but I will be a bit less excited next time.

We tried the Big Bell Box, which is a larger meal for one (£6.69), the Crunchwrap Supreme meal (£5.29) and a Pork Quesadilla (£3.89). They were all good, especially the Crunchwrap - described as 'A warm soft flour tortilla layered with beef or Mexican chicken, nacho cheese sauce, a crunchy tostada shell, lettuce, reduced fat sour cream and tomatoes'. A vegetarian option for the Crunchwrap is also available (refried beans). As I haven't been to Taco Bell in the US I can't compare the taste directly, but I thought the flavours were good and liked the Mexican chicken and pulled pork fillings (didn't try the beef or beans - yet). The nacho cheese sauce is nice. Compared to the US it's a bit more expensive as you would expect (e.g. a quesadilla is about the same in £ and $, $3.99 average in US according to procelisto.com), although I'm not sure how the portion sizes compare (probably bigger in US?). Their food is not really Mexican, more Tex-Mex so if you want real Mexican food this is not the place to go (fact: there are no Taco Bells in Mexico after it left the Mexican market for the 2nd time in 2010!). Overall it's cheaper than alternatives for similar food like Taco Mazama and Barburrito but I feel like it's less authentic (not necessarily a bad thing as their food has its own unique flavours and tastes pretty good) and uses cheaper ingredients. For kids they have the 'kidsadilla' (chicken) or chicken rice bowl which are both £2.99. Cheese kidsadilla is also an option. The kidsadilla is pretty simple - just cheese and meat in a grilled tortilla with no options for extra fillings. As a happy meal is cheaper, bigger and has a toy I can't recommend this. The full size quesadilla is just as simple. Almost forgot to mention the churros...these are not good, too oily and crispy. So good and bad points but overall I like the taste and would like to come back soon to try the other options on the menu.
