Very nasty worker by the name of "Dip" working at this establishment. I do not recommend that anyone gives their honest, hard earned money to a merchant that will berate you and tell you to "get out" over a fragile, easily bruised ego. The rest of these reviews are silly. Yes, there is one friendly woman who works here. But if she's not here then you'll be waited on by a jerk. There is a strange smell in this establishment every time I've walked in. Sometimes it has been so strong that I have turned right around and walked back out. Burnt bread and sewage. Tonight, unfortunately, my mask was thick enough that it tempered the smell so I ended up making the terrible mistake of ordering food here. I did not get a single vegetable on my sandwich. Not because I didn't want to; in fact, I went in for a foot-long veggie. But I took one look at the absolute disgusting mess and changed it to a 6 inch meatball. There were onions in every single vegetable area. There was lettuce in every single vegetable area. There were bread crumbs in half of them and random pickles everywhere. Tomatoes and jalapeños all over the place. It looked like a miniature tornado had torn through the subway counter and left everything else untouched, or like an artist wanted to depict a 70s key party with vegetables as the medium. Now I don't expect much from subway or any other disgusting fast food restaurant other than cheap and fast. Seems like you can't even get those two anymore, the $5 foot long having been replaced by the $6 6-inch. So what I'm saying is, the bar is low. Even with that low bar I can only give this place one star, and that's because it's hot as hell outside so even this flat, watered down Coke is refreshing. We stopped in this subway on Sunday afternoon to pick up a large order. The staff were all very friendly and rushed to get our order done (we arrived early). Everyone was really nice and helpful. However they really blew me away when I said that we were walking with the order. The manager/owner helped us carry our order 3 blocks! She was so nice about it. Really, she went above and beyond to help us. Along the way she saw a couple of customers. They obviously really liked her, and she knew exactly who they were. My latest visit was on 9/20/21 when I purchased 4 individual sandwiches and ordered another 75. Ms. Felicia promptly informed my sister and I that she would be happy to place our order(s) and help in any way she could. She is a consummate professional and always serves with a smile. It's a Subway, you probably have a good idea what the food will be like before you walk in. What separates this Subway from others and is the reason for the 5-Stars is the service. This one has the best service I have ever received, every single time I go. Last Tuesday I was in and out in under 2 minutes and the employee was professional whole time. Try getting that from the other locations in Hyde Park (53rd or on campus in Hutch Commons? haha) It's also very well kept and clean. The people that run this shop are probably the best Subway employees in the whole franchise. Felicia is a national treasure! She remembers everyone who comes in regularly (I work at a school nearby) and always calls us her VIP customers. She is so friendly, professional, and thoughtful. As an example, I came in with my toddler daughter ONCE last school year, and haven't been back until today due to summer break. The first thing she asked me when I came in was "How's your little princess doing?" Everyone else who works there is also wonderful, and you can tell that they take pride in treating their customers well. There is one lady who can be a bit surly (though not in a mean way, more in a "I'm just trying to get through my day" way), but the manager is extremely friendly and remembers repeat customers. I'm sure this is the best Subway on the planet. I live right across the street from another Subway, but when I have time I try to walk the few blocks to this one. I used to live around the corner and go all the time, and even though its been a few years they always remember me when I come back. Theyre just so, so friendly, and they give you tons of toppings and always have soup. Usually at Subways I have to ask four or five times for extra onions to get the amount I want, but here I just say 'extra onions' and get what I want. There are three Subways near here but this is the only one we go to. First of all the restaurant is always clean and the food area always kept spic and span. The service is AWESOME! The owner of this location is so nice and friendly and then there is Felicia. They both greet everyone warmly and make you feel special. Every sandwich is made the way YOU like it even with any extra requests like wrapping up veggies to stay fresh for your lunch the next day. Felicia is a ray of sunshine and I challenge you to leave there feeling down. But, with all this the service is fast and efficient and the longest lines move quickly. Great subway! Everyone is extremely friendly. I went in for a particular soup several times, and once I went in when there wasn't any made. The employee made sure that they made the soup everyday after that. The owner extended the $5 foot long deal for all sandwiches a month past they were supposed to discontinue it, because he wanted to help out college students.They are a lot better at making sandwiches than some franchises. I understand why folks rate this particular subway 5 stars. I much prefer this place to almost anywhere in Hyde Park and it's the best Subway I've ever been to. From offering to heat the cookies to the way they make your sandwich the way you ask them to (Lots of olives means lots of olives; a little honey mustard means a little honey mustard, for example). It's always, "Yes, ma'am" and "No, sir," and they know pretty much everyone who comes in by name. I initially ordered from this Subway because of its good ratings and now I can see why. I placed a larger order for a children's camp that my non-profit was hosting, and I needed 45 subs, chips, and drinks. The staff was very helpful in putting together my order, being assertive that these were children that we were feeding and there are some veggies that children may or may not want to eat!! The camp was being held at MSI nearby, and I was going to be the runner to pick up the subs. Unexpectedly, the camp needed more staff to watch the kids so I called Subway desperately seeing if there could be a delivery made last minute. This would have been a no in most situations during busy lunch hours, especially when the delivery was not planned ahead of time. However the owner herself came to deliver the subs to me at the museum--- Now that is service, and I will be using this Subway store again. The kids really enjoyed their sandwiches as well.
