You'd never really pay a lot of attention to the building, coming up on it from the street (I couldn't believe it when she turned into the parking lot, thinking she must have had some errand to do first). She had to lead me inside along the speakeasy passage to the tunnel, it was so dark. I thought it was styled very fun and cute when my eyes recovered and adjusted. I wasn't super hungry so I only had the fried breaded pickles and the house battered prawns--both were great, but those prawns were something else. They were some of the best things I've ever put in my mouth--ever! Perfectly cooked, huge and moist and so flavorful. Their cocktail menu is great with lots of choices--we loved our drinks. We also loved Athena, our bartender and server, who had wonderful suggestions for us and was just wonderful in so very many ways. I so want to go back!

We took a walk down to the pier and back while we waited for it to open and beat all the crowds. We both had the fish and chips, which came with fries and coleslaw. I've never seen fries cut like this- as if potato jojos/wedges and twirly fries had a brain child?? Tasty though! The fish was crispy on the outside and I loved that it came with lemon AND there was malt vinegar on the table (and it came with tartar sauce too!) Perfect triple combo in my opinion and I didn't even need to ask. Coleslaw was great- not too much mayo or celery seed or anything weird. Just a good scoop of salad. I ordered scoop sauce on the side and it wasn't my favorite because I am the weirdo that doesn't like ketchup. If you like ketchup (and a touch of horseradish!) this is your sauce! It was creamy and balanced and it's popular.

We liked the soup, both the Wild Halibut and Saffron Risotto and Bucatini & Clams were both great. We loved them both. I also enjoyed a Raspberry Whiff. We finished with Chai Creme Brulee. For the dinner we had scallop with red pepper risotto and mushroom pierogis. The scallops were big and perfectly cooked. The red pepper risotto however was a little overwhelming in the red pepper flavor. My husband thought it was delicious and ate it. The pierogis seemed really underwhelming and store bought. It was cheese pierogis with mushroom and arugula on the outside. I feel like if they were made in-house, the mushroom would be on the inside. They were still really good and I ate them all as well. The brunch is the thing I waited for. The lemon ricotta pancakes were to die for! They were so perfectly soft and cakey. I sadly couldn't eat them all because they were so large so I recommend sharing. Those were definitely the star of the show. This seemed like a really great stop near the border which was a win as I was nearing hangry status. Funny enough, as we crossed the crosswalk in front of the restaurant the server was outside and happily greeted us and welcomed us in. It's a sort of long and narrow building with the cutest and most eclectic decor around. There was a young girl at the bar as we came in eating cut up pancakes, watching football, and I felt like I had hopped into a cousins kitchen for an impromptu brunch. We walked down the long, narrow hallway, passing cute signs and pictures before the restaurant opened up into a still small dining area with about six tables in front of a huge window that overlooked the harbor and the train tracks. It was quaint and cozy, and exactly what we were looking for. We both ordered a pretty basic breakfast. Mine was two eggs, potatoes, and toast and my partner got the same but with meat. Our server recommended the sausage patty, and it did not disappoint. The potatoes were out of this world slightly under seasoned, but nothing a little salt and pepper and hot sauce couldn't fix, but they were absolutely cooked to perfection so any under seasoning was easily forgettable. The potatoes were what I would normally call pan fried potatoes, but they were the perfect combination of soft and crunchy, and you could tell they were made with so much butter, which was much nicer in flavor than when these are cooked in heavy oil. The sourdough toast was delicious and the eggs were perfectly cooked. They definitely seemed like they were basic eggs and it would've been nice if they were a little more higher quality, but I recognize that that would've driven the overall price up. Food came out really quickly and coffees and waters were filled regularly. Our server was super attentive and you could hear her having conversations with regulars throughout our visit and it was an overall grade vibe. If you like hot sauce, I definitely recommend you try their Viking blood hot sauce. It's made locally and was absolutely delicious. Brought a nice smoky flavor without burning your face off. The meal was a little spendy. I think it was about $17 for the non-meat version and a couple extra bucks for the sausage patty. Coffee was good, but nothing to write home about. I was pleased that they accept cash or card as some of the previous reviews showed that their cash only but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. We will definitely be back!
