There is some food, coffee, both freshly brewed & available to purchase, flowers, knitted goods and the market will have an estimated 60 vendors by mid-summer! Not as crowded yet as the Bellingham Farmers Market and parking is easier too. As Ferndale is an up & coming town it will only grow and become better! It is along the river & it is very clean with benches every so many yards & really pretty. I love having this here where I live. Check it out!

The customer service is too rotten when the nice ladies aren't allowed to treat customers correctly, and they try to push rotten fruit in the shop vs you picking what you want. The guy also tries to give you samples of unwashed fruit with dirty hands and a dirty knife used for cutting the fruits. Yuck!!! Parking is very limitted on the gravel next to the shop and your vehicle sometimes gets filthy and covered with dust when you or others drive in and out. Hard pass.

There were at least a dozen food stalls selling anything from home baked bread, cookies, donuts, Mexican food, and Asian. There were stalls selling arts and crafts which are unique to Orca's. We picked up some lunch and enjoyed as the local band sweet music on the stage. A few folks and their kids got off the ground and started dancing. What a scene, as if it's out of a movie scene. It was truly magical.

Orcas has a long and rich agricultural history and I've seen plenty of farms and roadside farm stands that stood vacant in Decemeber. I was stoked for summer. Cue COVID.... Well, I'm happy to report that the market was still happening. I'm glad they didn't throw in the towel on it, though from what I'm told it was vastly different this year. Oh, you can imagine that in previous years there wasn't a mandatory handwashing station at the entrance. And I imagine there weren't dots on the ground to indicate where you should wait in order to approach each booth one party at a time. But more importantly, I'm told that the market, even though it's small and mighty in its biggest years, was only very teeny this year. There were probably 7-8 booths there, and that made for a quick visit. Still, we bought some flowers at one booth, and a bar of locally made soap at another, so we did our best to support the vendors who are making an effort despite the restrictions. I have nothing but love for a farmers market, and nothing but admiration for the participants. Though we were only here for a little bit, I'm glad we made it.

This farmers market packed in the feels (you will get a real countryside feel visiting this one) watching the locals and with the local bands playing Scottish music. The vendors are unique and the products they carry even more unique. You would feel drawn to almost every single tent. The tenants are warm and welcoming. The market is held on a community school backyard with a playground at the back. So if you are visiting with kids, plenty of options to manage the little tyrants. I got my toddler a very nice wooden bow & arrow and he loves it! We got wine, cheese, chocolate and everything was so good. I cannot explain but this market had that warm, happy, community vibe to it and that feeling is amazing. This will be my stop on every single visit to Victoria.

We entered from the door closest to the road and found the ice cream! The boys were saying on the drive around the island that they could go for ice cream & viola! We sampled a few- Eddie got rocky road, Robert had the chocolate truffle (very good)- but John and I discovered oatmeal chocolate chip ice cream! Neither of us had ever had this flavor and we loved it! I explored the shop and settled at the other end of the barn in cooshy seats. Our boys were sprawled out closed to the end- the indoor (indoor for a barn) seating was spacious and plentiful. Outside there is a courtyard with strung lights and tables one direction, crops straight out & a family play area beyond the parking. What kind of play area??? One I discovered when I bought feed for their goat!!! Walk across this little bridge and you come to a bubble wand station with huge buckets of soapy water to dip! Then several hand pump- rubber ducky races! The rain gutters sloped down and back, 4 pumps and a water tub below- grab a ducky and pump!!! I raced Robert.... twice.... and beat him both times, bwahahahahaaaaa! Awwww, poor baby- he's 26, don't feel bad. Eddie sat and observed & John judged us and laughed at us. And feeding the goat was fun, she wanted pets and lovin before she would eat from your hand! Smart cookie. The farm also had honey, kettle corn, meats, fruits & veggies, kids items, jewelry and more! It looked like the other building could be set up as a market too. It's real close to the boys house, I know they will be stopping back! I will, next time I visit!

* Top u-pick! *…read more We've been on a U-pick kick this summer, trying to explore the various organic options available. This farm is now at the top of our list for U-pick! Here's why: - Really feels like a family farm. A couple and their little girls were all under a sun tent waiting for u-pickers to greet you. - Peaceful. We didn't see any other u-pickers at all. It was like being in a private blueberry field! - Very friendly. The man walked us into the field and showed us where the good blueberry bushes were that were perfectly ripe and ready to be picked. None of the sending you off to the fields to search randomly for the good stuff! - Quality. The bushes are older, and produce an amazingly sweet richly flavoured berry. We enjoyed them yesterday with some of our homemade vanilla ice cream. Today they are going into a blueberry crumble - which I can't wait to sample when it finishes baking! - Ease of picking. The bushes had huge numbers of berries clumped together. They almost looked like bunches of grapes! You literally could put two hands under a clump, give it a bit of a vibration and dozens of ripe berries fall into your hands. - Farming methods. This is a certified organic farm. Not just "following practices" as many claim. Fully certified. They also are certified biodynamic. So you know it is long term sustainable. Very nice. It feels good to eat things you know have not been contaminated with pesticides, and also that are fully sustainable so they will be there for years to come. - Setting. Located in the Chilliwack Valley, but fairly close to the mountains. So you have a beautiful view of the mountains while picking. Call me crazy but somehow it didn't feel as hot as when you are in an open field with no mountains in the distance. So even though it was 28 degrees it was quite comfortable. - Price. For organic they are very reasonably priced at $2.20/lb. They took a bit off for the weight of the bucket too (80 cents) - very fair pricing. - Setup. Even though you are in the middle of a field, they have a portable water cooler so that you can wash off your hands after picking. There is a porta-potty too. But we didn't venture in there. So no comment on that! The ripe berry bushes are also covered in a clear mesh tent so that the sun still gets in, but the birds do not pick away at the ripe berries. So you enter through an opening in the mesh and totally feel outdoors, but in reality it is a semi-protected environment. The farm grows all sorts of things (carrots, beets, squash, beans, cucumbers, arugula, kale, romaine, corn, and even beef and eggs), but focuses the u-pick on berries. The other products are available from them through their farmer's market visits apparently. Overall this is just a wonderful day trip getting a bit out of the city, seeing the scenery, picking some amazingly sweet berries, and enjoying playing with the farm dog (who is very friendly as well). We'll definitely be back!
