When we picked up the order I found they had added bacon to my order for no charge! They must've overheard me saying that to my husband and slipped it on for me- thank you! The maple milkshake was delicious! Very maple-y. When in Vermont you must have the maple! The decor in the dining room was very trendy with a graffiti style mural on the wall that was really cool.

We got the breakfast pancakes to split, which we were very curious about. It was somehow an excellent pancake and also a unique experience. I also grabbed the spinach scramble and my wife got the potatoes verdes. The chorizo in her dish was surprisingly good, but the true unsung hero was the homemade biscuit. Definitely grab one of those! The homemade hot sauce is excellent and not too spicy but packed with flavor. It adds a ton to their egg dishes. We are going back tomorrow to check out the banana bread French toast, which our waitress said is not to be missed, but we simply didn't have any more room in our stomachs! Update after day 2: skip the corn beef hash, and the omelet we got was just so-so. The "scramble" style egg dishes are much better. The home fries didn't get enough love in yesterday's review. They are quite excellent. And, the banana bread French toast was as advertised. Don't miss it. You can get a single slice as a side order for five bucks as of this writing, and you will not regret it. Again, excellent and friendly service and my kind of music.

I had scrambled eggs, homemade corned beef hash, home fries and rye toast. My eggs were cooked perfectly. The hash was average. Much better than from a can, but the flavor was slightly bland. The home fries were seasoned perfectly. The coffee was Green Mountain coffee so of course it was good. My husband had eggs Benedict with regular bacon instead of ham/canadian bacon. This is his most often choice when we go to breakfast. The bacon was thick cut and really good- I tried a little bit. He said the hollandaise was the best he's ever had. Even hours later out of nowhere he remarked how good his breakfast was. The next time we visit the area we will definitely go back.

I haven't been to a Skinny Pancake since I received the devastating no-more-gluten-for-me news, so I was glad to see that they have a buckwheat crepe option for us gluten-free dweebs. I ordered the apple & brie crepe. I was informed that the hash purples go into a shared fryer, so they're not totally gluten-free. I accepted my future stomachache & ordered them anyways, because they've always been my favorite item on the menu. Service was friendly & prompt. Find a table, order at the counter, & they'll bring your food to you. The hash purples were totally delightful, as expected. 5 star color, too. The crepe was unfortunately very underwhelming. It was super thick & the texture was kinda ominous. I didn't end up finishing it. They might just need to tweak their gluten-free batter slightly to get the balance right. I believe in them (: Overall a fun lunch spot in the marvelous capital of Vermont.

Great puff pastry on the pot pie, and tavern burger is a solid option (tho they melt the pimento cheese so it kinda drizzles off in the oven, but they accommodated putting it on last so you get to enjoy the pimento gooey goodness). The menu is on the small end of the scale. This seems wise for a new joint. The options covered a nice range of bases. I had the Irish Baked Potato thingy; baked tater with cole slaw, corned beef, 1000 island. It's a reuben on potato instead of rye bread. Quite yummy. Perhaps a hair on the dull side, flavor-wise, but a really neat concept. Work it, guys! it'll be great! The Mrs had chicken wings. I liked the seasoning a lot. She found it to be a bit too pepper-y. I don't disagree. Still, good food. Nephew and Mrs ea had smash burgers. They say that they liked 'em. I didn't taste, so I can't comment. They sure looked good! The space is an old (er) brick building. Nephew said that prior establishment was on loud side. Brick walls will do that. The new folks have added gentle acoustic treatment to the walls and ceiling. It looks nice and tasteful and it goes a long way to take the rude edge off of a "splashy" reverberant space. Sum up? I will hopefully eat there again; perhaps in a couple of months when the operation is more sure of itself. In the meantime, y'all should give it a taste. So there!
