Nothing special about the sesame bagels. Bland coffee. Owner was really nice. Kudos for trying.

Only been there a couple times to grab a bagel sandwich to go, but have found Maria's to be a decent establishment. Service has been fairly quick and my food was made exactly the way I asked. Honestly if I could, my rating would be 4.5 stars. Don't get me wrong that while their bagels ARE good, they are not best I've ever had. Yes, it's a little nitpicky of me, but I've had some incredible bagels in my travels. That said, Maria's is a solid choice for the Barre area and I'll definitely visit again. read more

I'd really like to give Maria's Bagels 5 stars because their drink selection and service was superior but the bagels we just ho-hum. My daughter said they were hard to eat. They just were to thick ...thicker than a typical bagel. The cream cheese was also too thick to really spread evenly. I also wish they had a whole wheat option. So 3 stars (what I'd call average... nothing out of the ordinary) it is. read more

Outstanding flavor and service. These bagels are made from scratch by the owner, Dustin, right in front of you and they couldn't be more tasty. The shop has inside seating, sells Disc Golf discs on the side, and has convenient street parking right out front. I'm having a shoe repaired just a few steps away from here and came on a word-of-mouth suggestion. Glad I did. Try the smoked salmon bagel. read more

Not only are their bagels gross they are rude. We went in to buy bagels and the guy was clearly angry about something. I asked if he had a certain kind of bagel and he relied "look at the list." Referring to a list of bagels they have left. I selected one from the list and he said "Do you want one" is a rude and snarky way. The bagels were not good and I had to deal with this rude guy to get them so I won't go back and you shouldn't either. The grocery store has better bagels. read more

I had a very terrible interaction at this place. I came in to get coffee and use the bathroom. I had my tiny four pound dog in my purse. The guy at the counter (who identified himself as the owner) said that I couldn't bring the dog in because of health code but indicated that if I was taking it to go, it would be better: When I said I was taking it to go, he seemed to be ok and started to ring up my coffee. I asked if I could use the bathroom which honestly was the reason I was buying the coffee anyway.. to be a paying customer and use the bathroom: then he started to rant about how I was "asking him to break the law" "and some other stuff related to that. At this point I think "wow that escalated quickly" and I giggle nervously and say "I could just leave." I mean what was he trying to get me to do? I can't chuck the dog out the door so he can let me buy the coffee and possibly use the bathroom or I can leave. Now he says he thinks I'm "laughing at him" and starts getting even more agitated. I try to explain I'm not laughing at him. I'm honestly laughing because I laugh at all awkward situations. He then demands that I leave and it sounds like he throws something onto the counter aggressively. So I leave. A bit of an overreaction no? Let me suggest a response that might have been a little more appropriate. Him: "Oh, we don't allow dogs, sorry. If you can leave your dog outside or in your car, I'd be happy to serve you." Me: ok, sorry about that. I'll be right back. read more

Honestly the best bagel place I've been to. Gates to hell cream cheese is a must have if you like spicy foods. I didn't really even like bagels before going to this place but my whole outlook on bagels has now been changed. This place was a random on the spot decision and since getting back to the DC area last month I think I've put down like 20 bagels. I ate two whole pounds of them this week and considering I weigh like 185, I was at some point at least 1% bagel. My blood bagel content was probably well above average read more

They're not reinventing the bagel, but that's good! Barre was sorely missing a reliable bagel option for years, and Maria's filled the void quite nicely. My one complaint, and it's minor, is that I've had a couple hit or miss sandwiches; missing ingredients, cold sandwiches, or generally hasty construction. Nothing worth getting mad over, but it's happened a few times now. When Maria's hits--which is 90% of the time--it HITS. read more

These are really good bagels! Like New York chewy style without being too dense. I got the everything, my friend got the chocolate chip. They made our sandwiches fast and to order. And the coffee was fantastic. We will definitely be back to buy a few dozen! read more

Very rude owner, inside to small. Foods mediocre, glad there is other places local. Not wasting money here, or my time. You shouldn't either

Traveling through Barre, VT and looking for a sandwich to go. Found Maria's Bagels on Yelp. Cozy interior. Very pleasant young'uns running the counter. Interesting choice of beverages. We got the Three Pigs sandwich: bagel of your choice with two fried eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, and cheese. Served up by a pleasant little guy who brought them out from the kitchen, most definitely with pride in his creation. He handed them to us with a big smile. We ate them in the car on our travels. Come on! The combined tastes were fabulous! Plenty of tasty oils intermingling from the meats and the cheese. One of best combos I have ever have. Very well done, Maria's! read more

I tried to leave a review on Facebook, but funny it didn't show up. We were there last weekend and I will never go back. We would go occasionally to grab bagel sandwiches, mostly because bagel options are limited in this area, not that the food here was great. This was the third time we had been in and witnessed the owner being obnoxious to the employees. One time he was yelling at them so loud in the kitchen we heard out at a table. Last weekend a kid working with him behind the counter dropped a bagel, the owner berated the poor kid in front of everyone saying 'smarten up' and 'why do I have to keep telling you guys ..' I was SO uncomfortable and felt so bad for the kid working. We won't go back and spend money to support a business run like this. Unbelievable! read more

The bagels are good. You might however be taking a gamble when you get a toasted bagel. We ordered the Taylor Pork Roll and 3 Pigs on onion bagels and the bagels were charred black on the tops. Our fingers and mouths looked like that of a coal miner's after we were done eating. I am guessing that this is a recurring issue since I observed one customer alerting the staff of a small greasefire, and the staff quickly said "Your bagel isn't burnt" as they handed over the sandwich. Staff: Please clean your grill more often. Potential customers: Check your bagels before leaving. read more

I Have been watching this place going downhill for sometime now. The product and service. Owner has all the excuses Covid, short staff, etc I get part of it but doing the same things over and over the same way is not the answer. Have seen him being aggressive towards people who don't agree with him. You can't call ahead no phone orders they say. I don't believe anyone wants to work for this guy which also tells me why spend my money here. Good Luck I will be very surprise if he is still in business a year or two from now. What I see is someone over his head and will experience serious burnout. read more

Best bagels in Central Vermont! Highly recommend this place! The breakfast sandwiches are amazing!

great bagel sandwich and very friendly service. lots of good selection for bagels to take home with you too

We went to Maria's bagel for a quick breakfast before starting our day. Having lived in New York, I am always looking for excellent breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and coffee. To our surprise, Maria's bagel exceeded our expectation in all aspects. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a sun dried tomato and basil bagel. Different from other bagel shops, their ingredients were kneaded into the dough, resulting in a subtle yet fragrance flavor. My boyfriend ordered a smoked salmon and chive cream cheese bagel. The toppings in the sandwich included capers and red onions, which were excellent. The final surprise was the quality of the ice coffee, made with coffee ice cubes to avoid dilution!! We will definitely come back again when we are back in Vermont next time. read more

Maria's Bagels is an amazing place to get food from! Bagels are made right there and always freshly made! All different flavored bagels and cream cheese! Breakfast bagel sandwiches are amazing! Makes great pulled pork and Mac and cheese! Together they are amazing as well and always freshly made same as soups! I've never had the coffee because I can't drink coffee anymore, but have heard it is delicious! They have all different kind of drinks too! I highly recommend Maria's! The owner is a very nice man and very good to the community! The women that works for him does a great job with taking orders, giving whoever is cooking, which I think is the owner right now, what they need, get the orders filled and to who they belong to and of course ringing up. Of course when it's really busy the owner helps everywhere he is needed! read more

The bagels here are wonderful. They are consistently great to enjoy with creative bagel types and cream cheese flavors. That being said, it comes at a cost. The owner, who has worked every time I have gone in, is simply terrible. He is impatient, abrupt, harsh, and overall rude to not only his own employees, but to most customers as well! Out of the five or so times I went in before finally refusing to support the business, each time I felt awkward and upset about my encounter with the unpleasant owner. The food may be good, but I refuse to pay the price of being treated in that way while ordering and trying to be polite. I highly suggest that you avoid this establishment. read more

The best bagels. The real things. They are not flaky soft as in other stores. When you bake again at home 300 degree for 10 minutes,it is very crunchy and tasty, solid inside. We drove one hour each time just to get a dozen of their poppy seed and sesame seed. Out of this world. We keep the left over in the freezer for next weeks. After thaw, bake it again. Fresh and crunchy as just out of their oven. My home made cream cheese mix with walnuts, yellow raisin, little vanilla extract, some white powder sugar, cut up little piece of dry cherry....Never fail, taste always the same.Once you try these bagels, you would never want to try any things else. read more

Walked in and ordered a toasted plain bagel with veggie cream cheese. Well the guy turns around and says "sorry we are out of plain" ok fine I'll take a whole wheat then. He then proceeds to make my husbands egg sandwich on a bagel and then I waited. Walked around the entire store looked at a few things then he comes out thru the back and hands my husband his bagel. Ok - I'm still waiting for my toasted bagel. We notice the guy goes to the bathroom. Ok. 2 people come in order their own bagels And they Both get their orders and I'm still standing there! WTF!! All I wanted was a toasted bagel with veggie cream cheese! Finally they ask me what I was waiting for and I repeated my order and Magically a whole basket of plain bagels appear -Then they finally toasted my bagel and spread cream cheese on it! Holy Freaking cow! How hard is it to complete an order and a simple one at that! By the way my husband was completely done eating his breakfast sandwich before I even got mine! Terrible service- no apologies nothing! And the guy that came back in from the bathroom didn't wash his hands when he walked back behind the bar all he did was grab a paper towel- listen buddy EVEN if you washed your hands IN the bathroom you must wash AGAIN when going back to work-gross never going back in. read more

I get a breakfast/lunch sandwich every chance I get and their soup is always spot on! They've certainly gotten much busier over time, but a wait is nothing bad when it means you're getting something good. Great addition to downtown Barre, great bagels, great ingredients (many local) which make for some delicious creations.
