The owner was so nice to me and my dog. I was attempting to leave her out on the porch but she was afraid to be left alone. The owner helped me out and set me up with a table and brought her water and a treat. I was able to eat my lunch with my dog, instead of putting her in the car (with the ac on of course). Out and about in Vermont doing the tourist thing checking out covered bridges and finding ourselves hungry, and discover this place. It's the kind of place you see in a movie with a home town Americana feel. I asked if food was available and was directed to a deli counter to the rear of the store. I was enamored by the bread selection and ordered a BLT Club on sourdough. OMG. The bacon carried through with crunch and a such a wonderful smoke. Tremendous. They offer McKenzie deli turkey that has carrageenan in it. Carrageenan, an ingredient derived from red seaweed, is commonly used as a binder indeli meats to help prevent meat from falling apart when sliced. I would not want too put that on my body. read more

The prepared food on the menu, like pizzas or anything, is really good. They have bread, cake, and pastries that are really awesome. I didn't give five stars because although we have had the pandemic here the last 2 years, their schedule has not been consistent and many changes turned me off many times when I was ready to go and crave some of their delicious items on the menu. I hope they can be more consistent and offer a better time for shopping. maybe they are not interested in the people who leave or arrive in the town before 7 am when we could stop and get a breakfast item to go, or the folks that are arriving late to town from work and would like to get something for dinner and it's already late. maybe we are not in their scope but one of those options would work pretty well. My grandson and I were touring Lake Champlain and heading back to Massachusetts. We stopped here because a local person said they had great pizza. They were right!! This was a general grocery store that also make OUTSTANDING pizza and all of their own baked goods and pastries! We were SOOOO happy we stopped to get a pepperoni pizza and leave with some pastries for the ride home. Awesome food, great people, and their ice-cream is great. They have limited menu on Monday and Tuesday, and full menu is available rest of the week. I had the "Treehugger wrap" and it was delicious. I stumbled on this charming, renovated General Store that has a Vermont feel but definitely the quality of an up scale place like Balducci's in NYC, or City Market. Everything here is homemade, including the Mayo and the ketchup which is pretty impressive. All the stocks are made from scratch, and most of the food is organic, there are proteins our local as well. As a chef, I can't say enough about quality of the food here. Also the portions are very large, I could make two to three meals out of them easily. After trying several different soups...yum...and a couple of their specials....delicious... I had to try the pizza because I was skeptical. Coming from NYC I'm a little bit of a pizza snob, but it turns out the owners of from there too, so they are serious about their pie. Homemade pizza dough, San Marzano tomatoes, high-quality cheese, thin crust, it did not disappoint. I wish this place was closer to my house in Connecticut, I'd be there every week. This place is literally THE BEST. I wish there were extra stars to give it - definitely deserves more than 5!! Incredible homemade food (the owners went to culinary school and focus on organic, non GMO, locally raised/farmed) - we live for their "original" breakfast sandwich with a huge in house made sausage patty, eggs and a perfect English muffin. The pastries are perfection - we get a muffin cut in half, toasted with butter. When I'm feeling extra indulgent, we'll get the French toast with maple cream cheese. Smoothies are the best (strawberry fields, avocado banana - all of them). There's also a market, with an awesome (curated) beer and wine selection. Finally, yoga upstairs. I could go on and on and on... it's the pace I look forward to going to when we're in town. read more

This place was great. It is right by some very beautiful scenic bridges (there are 4 within a mile... we missed the last one!) Store itself has been beautiful renovated and has a wide assortment of options, with breakfast options, sandwiches, a daily special and a case of baked goods. The apple butter on the turkey panini was delicious! They also have a varied assortment of high-end foodstuffs and gifts. Seemed like excellent choices. Bathroom was very neat and tidy. Met the owners too. They were a very nice couple who had "retired" from NYC to run the store. Definitely worth a stop if you are nearby! read more

I just attempted to eat what I'd call the most expensively disgusting cheese burger put in front of me. Visually, it was appealing, but upon my second bite I realized the burger was RAW, cold raw at that! I ordered the burger to be cooked medium, but the cook here apparently thinks cold pink meat everywhere but the outside millimeter is medium. I'll be surprised if I don't end up with food poisoning tonight. Ordered the potato salad on the side, very bland. Will not try another item on their menu again. What a treasure of a deli - in an expected spot! My husband and I stopped in on our motorcycle ride and had a fabulous lunch. We were very excited to see the renovation of this store, and the investment into Northfield. A store of this quality is more likely to be found in Stowe or Waitsfield. We visit family in the area, and often avoid taking the 'scenic route' from Northfield to Montpelier along route 12, but we will now avoid I-89 so that we can make stops at FGS to stock up for long weekends. This is a real find! A locally owned restaurant and "general store" that has little bit of everything for everyone. The food, particularly breakfast is remarkable - try the blueberry pancakes. Went there for lunch today. Burger and fries were great as always. Ordered chocolate shake that my friend said I had to try because it was delicious. The first one was just chocolate milk.....so the girl made me another one and it was just as bad. For over $6 it was awful. Wasn't thick. Was just a hair better than the first. After months of trying to go back and try again, to see if the experience/food would be better i've just decided to no longer go here. The food is expensive which for the quantity and quality I would not expect. The service is horrible. Some days are better than others but almost all of the time I have ordered something and been given something completely different. This has happened too many times. I'm incredibly disappointed by the falls store. I was so excited to have a local store to go to for a nice organic food selection but it looks like I'll have to continue to go to Montpelier for things like this.
