This restaurant used to be good, but now it feels like no one cares. I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life here tonight. The issues included: - It's 20 degrees out and the door takes forever to close, so every time someone comes in, you get an endless blast of cold air. They should put a sign on it saying "CLOSE DOOR BEHIND YOU." Or maybe just get a decent door. We were freezing. My son kept his winter coat on. - It took forever to get seated, forever to put in our order and forever to get our food - even PIZZA SLICES. I had to ask three times for a club soda. -They were out of a ton of things including 8 out of 11 beers on tap, lemonade, and bone-in wings. - So we ordered boneless wings which came AFTER the rest of our meal and were basically disgusting chicken nuggets. The Caesar salad also arrived after everything else. - The salmon was adequate but worse than Applebees and basically every other restaurant salmon I've ever ordered. The carrots on the side were undercooked. - They had no way of playing music outside of the TV so we had to turn off the music to put on the Celtics. None of these are unsolvable problems. I've been to this Positive Pie many times in years past though not as often recently because I don't live in Montpelier any longer. I took a friend here today and the food was awful. The beet salad should be called arugula salad now. Where did the beets go? We ordered the Penne Alla Vodka which I can describe as a sauce made from tomato paste and rubber chicken. I've liked this place just fine for many years but lately it seems the consensus in my family is the service has really downgraded. Two things to improve: 1. Actually greet pick-up patrons instead of just rudely asking "Pick up?" and "Name?" Tonight when I went in I didn't even receive a hello or goodbye. 2. The post-Covid configuration is unwelcoming. If you call an order in and you go to the front, you actually need to walk around the block all the way the back door. Feels...weirdly punitive like you're punished for calling ahead? If you do walk in for a slice to go, there's nowhere to sit. Maybe a patio or something would improve the vibe. Finally, we need to talk about price. A large speciality pizza being north of $30 is insane. It's good food, but it's not worth that. read more

We are in town for an overnight stay, and really feel like we lucked out getting pizza from Positive Pie. We were about to patronize another place in town, but my son loves black olives on pizza, and the other place only had fancier olives ;) The pizza really exceeded my expectations very airy, thin crust with a delicious mix of mozzarella and sauce. Got a side salad and the maple syrup vinaigrette is interesting and pretty tasty. The pizza was good! The service was abysmal. There were 5 total tables with 3 servers and 1 hostess. Our server brought our pizza out quickly, which we finished in about 15 minutes and had empty water glasses. We waved to her twice and she didn't look at us. We asked another server for a water refill and they said we weren't their table but they'd find our server. 30 minutes after our food was served, I went in to ask the host for our check. It took another 10 minutes for our server to bring it out to us. Totally understandable if they were busy, but we watched the young waitresses chatting at the back of the restaurant rather than checking in with tables. read more

My husband and I stopped here for lunch while out on a day trip from Burlington. We each got our own personal pizza for our main meal and shared the poutine as an appetizer. The waitress who took care of us was also the bartender and she was extremely accommodating. I was hesitant to get the BBQ smokehouse pizza because of the bbq sauce and asked if she ever tried it because I was concerned that the sauce would be too overpowering. She offered to ask the kitchen to go light on the sauce. Then when I asked if I could make one of the cocktails a mocktail, she was open to my request and made a delicious drink that made me feel like I was drinking something fancy. While Positive Pie does pizza very well, do not order the roasted chicken dinner. Mine was clearly parboiled and then frozen, and then thawed in the oven. We could taste the freezer burn and the meat shredded when cut into. It cost $18. I expect chicken to be parboiled in the daily meal prep but not the use of old parboiled frozen chicken. We love Positive Pie. I have to say, we have never dined in! We have always gotten to-go or delivery, and have never had a bad experience. We generally build our own pie with what we are in the mood for that day, but it is always just as requested. My son has gotten some to-go slices at the back window when we are just walking around downtown and the staff is always pleasant and they are quick to come out! I have seen a few reviews regarding the wings--this has been an ongoing issue during COVID. We have ordered wings from here before and they were perfectly fine. They have the best pizza I've ever had! I am extremely picky about my pizza, and it's just amazing. The crust is perfection. There's definitely some weird things about the place. The servers are always a bit off. By that I mean not always the most attentive. Although the last time we went, there was a newish male bartender and we were happy with him. Before that visit, we had been many times and had weird interactions with each server. They never seem to hire friendly, bubbly, attentive FOH staff! The only other bummer is that that their dining room is a freezer. They need to figure out their entry way. Either build an entry with a double door, or put a massive heater near the door to offset the cold. I left thinking I wouldn't go back until Spring. I don't mind a chillier restaurant, most are on the colder side. This wasn't just chilly, you might as well sat outside. Other than those two things, it's the best place. Living in the state of New York, my expectations must be too high. We stopped in this restaurant on Monday afternoon June 26th. We were seated promptly but that was it. The table was tacky, service was very slow in bringing silverware and menus, and when I ordered a beer she brought the wrong one. The salad was tasty, as the salad dressing was very good. However, I expected fresh mozzarella on a caprese salad instead of a slab of pizza mozzarella cut into chunks. And as far as the pizza goes... cheese and mushroom which tasted like frozen cheese and mushroom pizza from a cut rate supermarket. The slices were excellent. However, the remodel has left their patrons missing a safe place to eat. The old configuration had a lovely bar to eat your slices. I've been here a couple times. It's just OK, not Yelp's A-Ok, so only 2 stars, and I feel a little bad about that, but you all want my honest opinion, right? Last time we were there, the Caesar salad was bland... no taste. It seemed like it was damp romaine lettuce with some Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, with a few croutons thrown in. My wife's shrimp scampi was also tasteless, not a hint of garlic. Although she did ask the waitress to go easy on the butter and oil, so maybe that was the problem. I'm a believer that any time you ask the chef (or cook) to do something different, you're taking your chances. Obviously that's not the case at fine dining restaurants. My spaghetti bolognese was also kind of tasteless. It just have been an off night for the kitchen. Who knows. The service was good and the waitress was pleasant. They have that going for it.
