I only ordered a plain bacon cheeseburger and this tiny mug. It only costed me around $12? Not too bad. The cheeseburger I got was pretty good for what it was. Comparable to Carl's, maybe even slightly better. The lady who helped me was pretty nice. She had a difficult customer before me and she still had a positive attitude with me. That was awesome! I'll definitely have to come back and try more items!

I was excited when Tapioca Express popped up in Baker on the way there. However, the restaurant was closed. We drove further and stopped by at this gas station/plaza that had a Subway. There was a long line in front of Subway, so we settled on A&W as we had not eaten at this restaurant before. We had the following Crispy Chicken Burger Chipotle burger with side order of French Fries and 1 Large Root Beer Float. 2 Piece Chicken Tenders meal but with extra fries instead of drink Total came to $20.17 Pros: Flavorful burgers (+1) Inexpensive (+1) Employees let us swap side choices from the standard combo. Cons: Takes time to prepare. It was a different kind of food. Everything was being fried fresh, I think. So, it took a good 20 Minute to get our food. I recommend ordering from here, then filling gas, using the restroom etc. It will be efficient, and you will be on your way to Vegas, or LA with piping hot food :)

Root beer floats are made with hand scooped vanilla ice cream. They are not bad at all - pretty good for a quick serve restaurant. They don't fill the cup with root beer because the ice cream makes it froth and spill over. You can add more rootbeer yourself at one of the soda fountains. You place your order at the counter and eat a the common tables in the mini-food court inside a gas station. I would come here for a snack and to take a break from highway driving.

Came by for a snack the other day on the way to Las Vegas. This location is a joint-location w/ Pizza and some Wing Joint inside a gas station/rest area stopover. The location is dirty and the patrons are ghetto. The chicken tenders were oily, previously frozen, and very salty...yuck!

Looks more like offices than a breakfast place. Just a sign on the building and that's about it. I probably drove past it before and never even noticed. Then you walk in and the whole feeling changes immediately. Noise. Coffee cups clanking. Older locals talking across tables. Servers flying around the room somehow without making the place feel stressful. Real breakfast spot energy. Not "designed for Instagram" energy. Big difference. I told the hostess I was waiting for somebody for a business meeting and needed a minute before sitting down. She instantly got it and put us in a quieter corner away from the middle of the room. Small thing, but honestly that already told me enough about this place. People here pay attention. And somehow they managed that balance that almost nobody gets right anymore. Nobody bothered us every five minutes, nobody interrupted conversations, nobody hovered around pretending to be attentive. But every single time the coffee got low, somebody appeared. I stopped counting after maybe the fifth refill. That kind of service is disappearing everywhere now. Food came out fast. Huge portions too. Not fake "brunch aesthetic" portions where you leave hungry and take photos of flowers on the plate. Real breakfast. The French toast was honestly ridiculous in the best way. Thick slices, powdered sugar everywhere, crispy edges, bacon on the side. Looked like the kind of breakfast you see in old American movies where somebody's dad reads the newspaper at the kitchen table. Hard to explain, but yeah... it had that feeling. The biscuits and gravy with hash browns completely finished me after that. Good way. Heavy breakfast. Comfortable breakfast. I already knew halfway through there was no chance I was finishing everything there. First time in a while I actually packed food to go. What surprised me most though wasn't even the food. It was how relaxed the whole place felt. Nobody trying too hard. Nobody acting trendy. No fake "modern brunch culture" vibe. Just people doing their jobs properly and making customers feel welcome. Breakfast for two ended up around $57 before tip. Honestly fair. Especially for California at this point. I'll 100% come back here. Not because it's the fanciest breakfast spot in the desert. It's not. It just feels real. And lately that's becoming weirdly hard to find.

Plenty of seating and only two people ahead of us to order at the counter at 9 a.m. Within 20! Minutes about 4 other parties showed up at the same time. Though they did not have my first choice of posole today, I thoroughly enjoyed the chorizo and eggs with beans and potatoes and corn tortillas. (4/5) My husband ordered the chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and red sauce. (3.5/5). They have a salsa bar with sliced limes and cut radishes/cucumbers for you to pick up as desired. Delicious! I particularly liked the spicy salsa. While they were making the food, I ran across the street to get a photo of the world's tallest thermometer. lol The portions were huge!! We took our leftovers to go. Plenty of street parking and seating inside and it was a perfect little roadside cafe.

We had been on the road for a few hours and wanted to get something to eat! The last time I visited the Mad Greek was about 20 years ago, on my way to Anaheim to visit the ADP HQ. It was good back then, and the food is still great! As soon as you walk inside the restaurant, you'll notice how spacious it is. There was table seating inside the restaurant in various locations. There is now self service kiosks where you can place your order, but there was also a team member at the register taking orders too. Their menu has changed though since I last visited. There are a lot more options you can choose from such as Breakfast items: Burritos, quesadillas and more! Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers Sandwiches (Patty Melt, BLT, Grilled cheese..) Salads Milkshakes and so much more! We decided to try the following Beef & Lamb Gyro Meal Combo - Rice/Drink Chicken Souviaki - with hummus, no tomatoes and with Feta Fries/Drink. The team member provided us with a buzzer which would let us know when the meal was ready. It was beautiful weather outside, around 80, so we ended up waiting outside at a table while our meal was getting prepared! We didn't wait too long either, about 10 minutes for the meal. It was pretty quick! My Chicken Souviaki included two skewers with lettuce and onions. The hummus was in a cup, so I was able to add as much of the hummus to the wrap as I needed. The hummus was more like a thin sauce though. It was still yummy! The chicken was quite flavorful and tender. I enjoyed the wrap. The Feta Fries though were super scrumptious! There was so much feta cheese on the Fries! I ended up dipping the French Fries into the hummus sauce! The French Fries were crunchy and just perfect! My husband and I ended up splitting the Feta Fries. I also had a chance to try out the rice, which was good, but I did like the Feta Fries better. We spent less than 30 minutes inside the restaurant, and then was back on the road to Las Vegas! The team members were helpful and friendly. The food was great. This would be my go to spot if I am looking for a quick meal at Bakersfield again!

The strawberry shake IS GOOD and they have some other shake options which I think would also be good as well. We did try the date and it was also very good. Other notable mentions are the fries/feta fries/ fried zucchini. Solid options with that dilly tzatziki sauce for dipping. The gyros however left much to be desired and prices are a little steep. Fast and friendly service as well.

They have restrooms that you can use and it is located outside and gated so you know it is safe. The interior of the restroom was OK. It definitely needed more cleaning sessions and it did smell but it was fully stocked with toilet paper and seat liners so that's a plus. Given that this is one of those classic roadside spots that gives you exactly what you need, I didn't grade it as strict. This dairy queen as all the food items as their sister stores but I was able to find out that they did include fried cheese curds at this location. What a hidden find! I also got their chocolate dipped cone to eat afterwards. I got an order to go and was happy eating my freshly made cheese curds while charging my car at the nearvy TESLA chargers. Quick comf food plus a refreshing treat. The service was good and efficient, especially considering how busy it can get with travelers passing through. At this location, the interior dining is small with a few spots to sit down and enjoy your treats. Definitely plent of parking in the front for customers to make a pit stop.

Restroom is connected to this gas station area. It was very busy when I went so the line was wrapped around outside. Luckily I had an RV to go to otherwise I'd probably had to wait for 15 mins.
