Strawberry shake (Oops! I guess I ate all the zucchini fries before I got a picture)
Jasmine M.

My suggestion is always get the fresh strawberry shake and the zucchini fries. These are my favorite picks. Crowded and always busy but we did manage to get a table. Service is only at counter (like fast food). Cordial but not personable. Could use an update in my opinion. Fast food vibe. Prices lean on the moderate to high but you can't get food like this at home and you have to consider the area.

This was my first time stopping in Baker for a meal and it was decent. The restaurant had kiosk ordering and counter ordering available. Both were quick and easy. The portions are pretty large, but the price is also quite steep. I get it...there aren't many options, so they will command the higher price. Overall, the experience was good. I wouldn't make it a point to stop here, but if everyone I am driving with is hungry, I would definitely return. Service was very good and fast!

Stopped by Baker again on our way home to Pomona from Vegas this afternoon. This time we tried The Mad Greek. Plenty of seating, clean bathrooms, easy ordering of food on touchscreens, my husband ordered the beef gyro wrap and I just needed a beverage (still full from the buffets at the Paris Las Vegas conference). The staff was friendly, the food was ready within 10 minutes, and it was satisfying but not remarkable. Kudos to the Mad Greek for offering travelers food that isn't a fast food franchise.

The food here is good and it's a nice, cool (temperature) stop between Las Vegas and CA. Baker is a crazy roadtrip stop, anyway, to see the giant thermometer. So much parking at The Mad Greek, and so many tables! You order from the kiosk and they'll give you a number for delivery to your table. The food was classic American Greek diner food. A little pricey but fresh. We loved the baklava milkshake with whipped cream ($7.99) - I wish I had one right now. The large Greek salad (entree sized, $16.99 + $5.00 to add the beef & lamb gyro = $21.99) was fine. A small Greek salad was $11.99 (no meat). Both salad sizes came with a dolma. A falafel and tahini appetizer with fresh pita was good and was $9.49. A regular (~12 oz?) soda was $3.99. I don't know if I need to ever stop here again but it was clean and kind of amusing. Friendly staff was there to help you figure out the kiosk, bring your food to your table, and they kept the dining room very clean.

Beef/Lamb Gyro

Pretty good Mediterranean place as a quick pit stop lunch toward Vegas if coming from SoCal! My husband and I were pretty hungry and decided to get their gyros here. We both had their beef/lamb gyros and also their zucchini sticks. The gyros were filled with lots of meat and came with packets of tzatziki sauce which was nice. They were good and fresh. I wasn't too fond of their zucchini sticks just because it was way more batter than there was zucchini. Overall, I'd be back again for a quick gyro!

Beef and lamb gyro meal-delicious!!

Found this place as we were heading to Vegas. Driving in late and so happy when we saw they were open late in the middle of nowhere and it wasn't just fast food. Spacious place and was super clean. Loved that!! We had the Beef and lamb gyro meal. Also had the Chicken dinner. Gyro was delicious, Fresh veggies and tasty beef and lamb. Quite enjoyable ‼ Chicken was pretty good, very juicy and savory. Rice could be seasoned more. Other than that meal was quite enjoyable. Met a lovely lady who was very kind and helpful, she was cleaning around us, loved her kindness. I believe her name was Laura. It was very nice to meet her. When in Baker, don't miss this spot!!

Great little stop at The Mad Greek on our way to Vegas. After some time on the road, this was the perfect place to stop, take a breather, have a bite, then head on back on the road. Arrived at around 7pm after a treacherous few hours in holiday rainy weather up the Cajon pass. The staff were super sweet and kind when we took some extra time to look at the menu. The decor in this place was super cute and kitschy. Blue and white colors and Greek statues covered the place which was totally fun. They also had lots of grinch decor up for the holiday which was adorable. For food, we grabbed two gyros and some feta fries. I love a gyro, but the fries were the ultimate star of this meal. Lightly battered and fried, so good. We upgraded to the feta fries which was a great choice. Nice little 30 minutes spent before heading back on the road to Vegas. Next time I'll try one of the desserts!

It's been so many years since I've came back. It was a nice stop for this recent road trip. They now have kiosk to help orders. Gyros still taste pretty decent. Their tzatziki sauce is the best part of the meal. It makes the gyros less dry and makes the food more refreshing. It's still a good quick meal for on the go.

While passing through Baker, no trip is complete without a Mad Greek stop. I ordered my Date Shake. It was grand. The facility was clean and, of course, the restrooms as well. Upon entering you are warmly greeted and thanked for stopping in. Post Covid, they trimmed the menu down to something more manageable. But I still miss their Greek Calamari salad.

Gyro wrap with Zucchini sticks and Falafel Wrap with fries

Stopped here after camping for a quick lunch. The self-ordering was quick and easy. The Beef & Lamb Gyro is super tasty, love it. The Zucchini sticks are cooked perfectly, but needed a little salt. Dipping in Tzatziki sauce was fine but not as good as ranch would have been. The Falafel Wrap was good, tasty and filling. It comes with a tahini sauce and that was very good, but could stand a bit more garlic. The French fries were the absolute winner of the lunch though. Whatever extra crunchy goodness they have on it was amazing!

The Mad Greek Cafe. By: The Cousin Critics #1. Eddie: The food lowkey slapped. I got a Big Mac lookalike. The place was niche. I felt I was gonna get flanked by Alexander the Great. (81/100) #2. Evelyn: It was great other than the fact that they gave me so much letteuce. I could've made Pompeii outa all of it. It was like a dragon hoard but with lettuce. And the dragon in top was lettuce too. Also on my way out a bird screamed at me. Loved the vibe tho (79/100) #3. She She: (she got a burrito at a place that has Greek in its name? Tf? Just go to the taco bell bro ) it sucked. My burrito was terrible. It split in half while I was eating it and spilled its bean-testines all over my platter plate thingy. (I think she's over reacting ngl) My only other complaint was that the ceiling was breaking open like my burrito. I liked all the decor. .5 (65/100) #4. Lily: (me) I think the cafe was quite awesome. Its surroundings (aka the town) was booty. When I was going in I felt like I was gonna get murdered. I was not expecting much but when I went inside I was surprised. It looked so much bigger on the inside than the outside. I later realized that's because there's mirrors on some of the walls. Amazing decore. Loved the atmosphere. My meal was good but not great. The Nutella shake was also awesome. The whipped cream was too sweet. (81/100)

This is definitely one of the places I really don't understand all the bad ratings because personally I LOVE The Mad Greek going to and from Vegas. Their fries are absolutely delicious! They are definitely some of my favorite fries anywhere. The strawberry shake is scrumptious too with all the fresh strawberries in it. The lamb and beef gyro is a favorite of mine and after living in Israel for 6 months I am definitely picky when it comes to good Mediterranean food. The fact that they have Baklava is a win for me too, since that isn't something you can just get anywhere. For those less adventurous the Burgers are good too! There's always plenty of seating and parking every time I have been. The dining area and bathrooms are kept pretty much spotless. All my interactions with the staff have been good as well. The Mad Greek is definitely a must stop for me when making the Los Angeles to Las Vegas drive. I just need to to remember to actually take pictures of my food next time I come haha

Strawberry Shake

We made a pit stop here on our way to Vegas. Ordering was quick and easy through the self-serve kiosk, which I actually appreciated, giving us ample time to browse the menu at our leisure. I went with the beef and lamb gyro; the meat was juicy, flavorful tucked into soft pita. It came with tzatziki in a little plastic packet, which might not sound glamorous, but that sauce delivered with its garlicky and creamy perfection. We also ordered the patty melt with feta fries. The salty, tangy feta melted slightly over the hot fries and gave them this rich, addictive flavor. Such a simple but genius addition. My brother ordered a strawberry shake that was thick and creamy. He also shared the baklava which was beautifully flaky with just the right amount of nutty sweetness The decor is fully themed and gives the space a ton of personality. The best part: actual café cats roaming around the outdoor section. Real cats!! They were hopping around the chairs, playfully nipping at each other, and just living their best lives. It added such a fun, unexpected charm to the experience. Great food, fun atmosphere, and memorable details that make it more than just a quick stop - recommended!

I'm traveling tomorrow from California to Vegas, is it open? It's already 9/5/2021 Please update me...

Closed. Sadly. Looks like they are renovating. It was closed two weeks ago maybe they finished? Won't hurt to stop off that exit tho!

Does anyone know if and when they will reopen?

I just passed by, still closed😩it's still on renovations 7/6/21 I'm soooo disappointed

Is it open?

7/8/21 still closed.

Update 5/7/21: drove by to and from Vegas from SoCal. Closed. No work being done. No sign or info. I will now hate to drive to and from Vegas as this was the oasis in the desert during this drive. Please re-open!!…

Last went 4/17 and still closed with no opening in sight. I peaked inside and it didn't look like they are opening anytime soon

Are you back open?

It's not open right now I just checked on way home from Vegas and got so sad.

Are you open at all during the pandemic for takeout?

It's not open right now I just checked on way home from Vegas and got so sad.

Is the falafel gluten free? Does it have flour in it?

I don't think this place is health conscious..I don't see any signs. A little gluten ain't gonna hurt

It's closed to no more 24hr?

It's open 24hr 7 days a week

UPDATE: Changed to 1 star. Idecided to call and see what…read morethe options would be for refund or to replace the order we took to-go. Same young man listened and said he "has to talk to the big boss" and could he give me a call in a few minutes. I waited about 5 minutes and he called back. He then said, "unfortunately the Manger in charge of refunds isn't in until tomorrow" (so, I guess the Big Boss can't issue refund or replacement) Now I have to wait for a call tomorrow to see IF they will do something for us. But the young man did, in a round about way blame the customer. "The lid was placed on it properly. We don't have control over when it leaves the building" I explained that the drive home shook the hummus off the baklava and the lid popped off, so it's our fault? He said, "I didn't say that. I'm saying there are a hundred different variables that could have cause this".... but none of them is the restaurants fault... Right? I'll have another update tomorrow when/IF I get a call. Hubby & I went here for lunch today. When we walked in we were greeted by a young man. He said we could sit anywhere we'd like and he'd be right over with menus. There was one table with patrons. We waited maybe 5 minutes and finally a young lady from the back asked if we had menus yet. No. So SHE brought us menus. Then the young man came by, friendly and politely although not very punctual said "what can I get you to drink?" Easy order. Iced tea and a Diet Coke. We ordered our lunches at that time because it was a long while before he finally came over. I got my pita, hummus and salad from the lady in the kitchen BEFORE our drinks. Waited. Waited. Waited. Hubby finally flagged him over and said, "Can we get our drinks now?" "Oh yeah. Ill be right back with those" He ended up serving the only other table their food before finally coming back with our drinks. I was already irritated. Maybe a little hangry. But, at that point I was over it. We never got a check. Walked to the register and told him we were done. We did take baklava and hummus to go. 2 lunches, 2 drinks, baklava and hummus. $80??? We finally got the hummus and baklava home. The young man apparently stacked the hummus on top of the baklava. During the drive, it must have slid off the baklava and all the oil and hummus leaked out of the container and all over the baklava and bag. Hubby was so disappointed, he threw the whole thing away. So, I guess, 2 lunches and some oily trash for $80 and HORRIBLE customer service. Giving 2 stars because what we DID actually eat was good. I wish I would have gotten the garlic paste the young man said he'd bring me. And wish we would have gotten to try the baklava we spent $27 on. Horrible experience. Won't be going back.
