Wienerschnitzel at its finest. If I wanted a withered old hot dog, I would have gone to AM/PM.

What do you do with old hot dogs? Cover them with ketchup and put them in Kid's Meals. Yep. Look at the pic.

I haven't been to one of these places since maybe 2005 or 2006. It always seems easier to find Del Taco, Jack in the Box, In-n-Out, or Carl's Jr. Sure, if you're looking for hot dogs, the others won't really do. Chili dogs are on the endangered list of foods. Actually today, I got a pastrami sandwich. I don't remember ever eating pastrami on the west coast, but I ate it regularly on the east coast. When you're in Philly or New York City and find a good deli with fresh rye bread, pastrami, and brown mustard, it can be so tasty to have a sandwich made for you. When I was ordering, I thought about how many ways this could go wrong and tried to dismiss all of them. The employee was so friendly and upbeat that it was difficult to think of anything bad at all. When I got the sandwich, I saw the yellow mustard--oh, well. The sandwich was good, and so were the fries, but that was a given. The pastrami was maybe a little too fatty, but people eat bacon and that's really fatty. The bread was soft, as though it had been baked that afternoon. What was missing wasn't as important as what was there--good flavor! I was surprised at how busy the place was. They didn't seem to stop for anything. The store was fairly neat and had plenty of seating.

(4.25 STARS)…read more Memorial Day road trips always seem to create the best random discoveries, and Pit Stop Bar & Grill absolutely delivered. Tucked away off Victor Street in Barstow, this was a fun find while driving back to Los Angeles from Vegas over Memorial Day weekend. Big props to Haley M., who was basically running a one-woman show and somehow kept the entire place moving with a great attitude and solid service. That alone made the stop memorable. The location has a cool, laid-back vibe with plenty to keep people entertained while grabbing food and drinks. They've got two billiards tables, a dart board, and all kinds of classic bar games, board games, and card games, including UNO, which is a family favorite. They also have several televisions. The food was all good too. I really enjoyed the Green Chili Burger, and everyone else in my party seemed genuinely happy with their meals as well. I felt they were trying to nickel and dime when I got the bill, i was charged for a side of ranch, a side of BBQ, and had no idea I was being up charged for the onion rings. I didn't say a word, but it hit wrong with me. .75 points deducted. What especially stood out to me, though, was the Memorial Day place setting displayed near the front entrance honoring our veterans and fallen heroes. It was simple, respectful, and genuinely touching. See my picture. That detail said a lot about the heart behind this place. If you're making the Vegas-to-LA drive and want something more memorable than the usual freeway fast-food stop, this place is definitely worth checking out. Great atmosphere, friendly energy, and one of those spots you end up talking about later.

The Jersey Mike's in Barstow is my go-to dinner stop on the drive between Vegas and LA, which I…read moremake frequently. It's solid road trip fuel that's a cut above fried and fatty fast food, which is always a plus. I love sandwiches of all kinds, and Jersey Mike's never seems to disappoint. This location is not quite as good as some of the others though. On my last few visits I've had a few disappointments, which ranged from the bread tasting a little stale to noticeably smaller portions (as well as one time getting a ridiciulously massive portion), to my order being slightly wrong (they forgot to leave off the mayonnaise or gave me white bread instead of wheat). This location is definitely inconsistent. Several times this location has been out of ice and the soda fountain hasn't been working, or they haven't had any diet soda options available. We've been given refunds on the sodas we ordered a couple of different times because of this. I like to order ahead through the app to save time, which is so valuable on the exhausting drive from Nevada to California. I order about 15 minutes before arrival, and my food has almost always been waiting for me. The dining room is small and has seen better days, but I've never felt unsafe eating in there. Barstow is kinda sketchy especially at night, but it's well lit and isn't filled with unsavory characters like some of the other quick service restaurants in the area always seem to be. My go-tos here are the chicken cheesesteak when I want a hot sub to the veggie or turkey and cheese when I'm craving a cold sandwich. Depending on who makes your order, you'll either get an overstuffed sub that's loaded with meat and veggies or you'll get a sandwich that leaves you hungry. There is no in-between. I do think this location skimps on the veggies and toppings, which is a letdown. I love lots of lettuce, tomatoes, and especially the sweet peppers on the chicken cheesesteak. I call Jersey Mike's my stop for elevated road trip food. It's not gourmet, but it certainly is reliable, hearty, and convenient for fueling up. While it's messy to eat in the car, it's a good spot to take a break before hitting the really crazy traffic going into Los Angeles.

Besides great snacks, they have an abundance of cool and soft plushies, too. Another big WOW! Will post photos later. There are 3 fast-casual restaurants. You may start your meal with freshly made sandwiches, salads, chicken tenders, burgers, fries, or pizzas and end it with Peet's coffee, popcorn, premium Jedidiah's jerky, or ice cream. So many options! I picked up a couple bags of tasty snacks, indulged in a cup of yummy ice cream, got a soft plushie or two and a few magnets. Can't leave without my magnets! LOL Prices were reasonable. Staff was nice and helpful. Restrooms were very clean and well maintained. If you've driven past EddieWorld and thought of exiting, think no more, just exit and explore. My wife liked the tortilla soup, but the spaghetti and meatballs wear subpar. Now I guess, I shouldn't expect good Italian food from basically a sports bar but I'll have to say it just was relatively bland. I ordered the habanero pineapple boneless wings thinking they would be spicy-- they were not. Now I will admit, I've gotten used to hot sauce so maybe that's why they weren't that spicy. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be soft, but the boneless wings were not crispy, maybe the sauce made the better soft. But, I did not like it, I was expecting more crispy. But again, maybe is this is the way that they're served. The ambience is okay it's a sports bar. Kind of small as well but very busy. The service was great. I was greeted within less than 2 minutes from sitting down, and I had multiple servers taking care of my table. So definitely they're not lacking in service. I just think since the last time I went there and this time the quality of food has diminished.
