Stopped in Barstow to get gas and grabbed a quick lunch here. They have a pretty spacious parking lot and a restroom (be warned that it was stinky in there). Ordered through their app easily and pickup was smooth too. They did forget the guac that I ordered but the staff was quick in apologizing and giving it to us on the side. My issue is that first I was hungry as I hadn't eaten all day and it was after 9 pm. Now, the shell was stale, the chicken was hard. It was like picking thru the salad and it was terrible. The lettuce was awful. More harder pieces than actual lettuce. I paid 15 and change for a disgusting salad. The fresco they give you was frozen. This review is long overdue. This has been our go to fast food restaurant on the road if we are driving through Barstow. Not all El Pollo Loco's are the same. The quality of the chicken can vary widely. This one is always top notch. Their chicken is always very well grilled and delicious. Food is usually ready very quickly. The one time we had to wait because they were out of legs and thighs, they apologized profusely and gave us a big free salad as compensation while we waited for them to grill the chicken. Their sides are also very good, I especially like their corn which is mixed with diced red peppers and cooked in a buttery sauce. The staff is usually nice and friendly. The restaurant is very clean. I always ring their bell on the way out to show my appreciation. read more

I first want to say that we love the food at Pollo Loco. That has nothing to do with this review. I want to mention about the management. We have gone into this location plenty of times. But recently the male manager that runs the register is just awful. The way he treats the customers is horrible. In a lot of way he is belittling them. If you are looking for a place to sit and enjoy your food then don't stop here. I was very disappointed. I shouldn't have to go to a business to spend my money on food and be treated wrongly. The menu is basically the same everywhere, but there are variations in quality from one location to the next and prices also do vary by location. I stopped at this particular location because it is a convenient stop along the I-15 on the way to Las Vegas. I found it to be neat and clean and well maintained. I presume it can get very crowded here depending on traffic conditions, but it wasn't bad the day I was there. They also have numerous outdoor tables which might come in handy on a nice day. read more

So I should've known better than to stop at El Pollo Loco off the freeway in Barstow CA. Look I get it, everyone is short staffed. We waited for 10 min at the front window. There was no one in front of us. A simple I'll be with you in a moment is just common courtesy. We had the chicken avacado tacos which were cold and not cooked, The chicken salad was decent. The birria tacos are suppose to be hot and the cheese is melted. We'll look at the pic. Traditionally El pollo locos are consistent, this one was substandard. 2 stars because the salad was fair other wise would of been 1 star. Stopped here for lunch on the way back from Las Vegas. Normally I stop at In n Out but decided to change things up a bit. Love how they had decorated for Christmas, even had a Christmas tree. I got a chicken breast and a wing. Prices were higher than expected. Not sure if it's this location or because the pandemic caused price increases. Portions were smaller than expected. At the El Apollo I go to, I 'm never able to finish a breast so gave the rest of it and wing for another meal. At this one, I devoured these skinny pieces. I also got a cup of Mexican Hot Chocolate. It's a new item so don't assume I'm calling it Mexican because it's El Pollo. It's listed as that on the menu board. I love Mexican Hit Chocolate. This was pretty good with hints of cinnamon.
