They give a good portion size at this location, usually more than your average. The wait time isn't too bad even with a lot of people there. I'm sure I've been here many years ago in my early 20's during some of my many road trips to Vegas but I was shocked at how STUFFED FULL all of their items were. My friend said that's what they're known for. I got the bun taco, soft chicken tacos and carnitas burrito. I couldn't believe how huge the chicken taco and carnitas burrito were!! Well, if you know me, you know I'm not much (if at all) into fast food. However, driving from Vegas back home has its perks. Who knew this was a little gem way out in Barstow. I heard about this place from my husband who in turn heard some good reviews from some friends, so we decided to stop and try a few tacos. It definitely brought me back to my high school days, the tacos were amazing! You actually get a lot too, everything tastes fresh and really good! I'm not saying it's the healthiest food choice around but it sure was good and if you're in that area or stopping through, it's worth it to stop and enjoy a taco or two. So apparently this is one of the original Del Tacos that were kept outside the corporate realm remaining in full control by the original franchisee. The carnitas burrito was packed with protein...the Bun Taco was ...wow...I haven't taken a puff weed in ages, well one because I'm trucking, and two I'm too lazy to get bongs, buds, paper all that shenanigans...but I will say this, if I had known this place existed back during the early days of going to community college and lighting one up on the weekends.....this is perfect weed food. Stopped by on our way to Las Vegas for a quick bite of nostalgia. You see, growing up in Phoenix, we didn't have Del Taco back then. The closest location was in Blythe, Ca. Of course we'd always stop there for a tasty snack. I'd usually opt for a cheese quesadilla with green sauce and a cup of refried beans topped with red sauce. So good! Anyways, I didn't get the bean and cheese cup on this trip but definitely got the cheese quesadilla. Also a Barstow Taco and a red burrito (bean and cheese with red or green sauce). Everything tasted fresh and delicious. While sometimes the line goes out the door and the place gets packed, the counter and kitchen move at lightning speed. We had our order within about 3 minutes of ordering. I will preface this by saying Del Taco has never been on my rotation of fast food restaurants that I visit, but I had to try the original. I visited on a weeknight and the staff were very attentive and fast and courteous. I tried the Barstow tostada and the taco. I thought they were ok and pretty basic and used a lot of their hot sauce packets. I love that each table had a basket full of salsa packets as I ran through them pretty quickly. Since this location is located right off the freeway, I would say it's a good snack to hold you over until you get to Vegas or back home if you're on a long drive. It doesn't upset the stomach and it's filling without making you feel disgustingly full. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're in a rush get it to-go and if you choose to dine-in, there's plenty of indoor seating and even an area that's a little separated from the main dining room so it's great for large parties or bus loads of people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside it's a throwback to the past which I'm not mad at. If you've ever been to Tustin California, there's a Del taco on Red Hill blvd and I lived in the apartments right behind them through high school. It was just my Dad and I, no Mom cooking up good dinners. So to me, Del Taco was Moms home cooking. I would eat a breakfast burrito on the way to school, they put crinkle fries in them in those days. On the way home i would grab a green burrito and for $.99 a large fries, which filled a 32 oz cup in those days. Imagine my surprise when on the way home from Las Vegas in college we stopped at the GOAT of Del Tacos off of Lenwood. Those Barstow tacos loaded with a half pound of meat and the same amount of cheese. Workers coming to our table and refilling our drinks! I could not believe how amazing this place was and the rest of my life if I was near this location I 100% stopped to eat. Now I'm in my mid 40's and I don't really eat fast food anymore so it had been years since I ate here. Until today! The first thing I noticed was the workers were not as friendly as they used to be. No one came to my table to see if we were happy or if we needed a refill. In fact I ordered a bean burrito with no cheese and the lady running the show behind the counter was cranky because her burrito was dripping beans everywhere and i took it back for a well made one and she was legit offended I called her out on her half ass bean skills. By the way, their bean and cheese Burritos are literally like nine beans in a tortilla and about a pound of cheese. I grew up eating Del Taco and this location on Lenwood in Barstow is absolutely hands down THE BEST Del Taco. It is a must stop location between Orange County and Las Vegas and driving trips are specifically timed so that we will be hungry when we hit Barstow just to stop at this Del Taco. I've had a number of menu items here over the years, but my favorite is the Barstow Taco. It's a crunchy taco that is loaded with ground beef, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, and a tomato slice on top. This taco is MUCH bigger than tacos at other Del Tacos. I can eat two if I'm really starving. They also have a Barstow Chicken Soft Taco which is also very good and much larger than chicken soft tacos at other Del Tacos. This location also still has the old school giant Macho Burritos and Pintos & Cheese in a cup. I used to love Pintos & Cheese when I was a kid; the way the red sauce, beans, and cheese all mixed together is so perfect. This is a busy location, but don't let a long line to order deter you. The line moves fast and the food comes out even faster! They give you a table number upon ordering and bring your food to you. Baskets with condiments and napkins are on every table. They have water cups sitting out so you don't need to ask for them. They also have really good ice at this location. The bathrooms are huge for a fast food place and are always well stocked.
