The place was empty, but at least the mariachi music blaring through their speakers made a little bit more lively. Before you know it, my special covered in red sauce arrived at my table. I recently moved to Barstow and food choices in the area is slim unless usual Fast food joints like McDonald's, Denny's, etc. I originally moved from Los Angeles which had taco trucks on every corner. I was craving for Mexican food and Casa Jimenez DID NOT Disappoint ! Their portion size is massive so you'll definitely get a lot of food for what you paid. My #1 MUST-HAVE recommendation is their Menudo. It had plenty of Tripe and SUPER flavorful !! Would definitely order it again and every time I order. My only item I don't recommend is the cóctel de camarones. All I got was rubbery Shrimp drowning in a red swimming pool. It didn't have any cucumbers, cilantro, onions, or anything just Shrimps in clamato. Could be made a little more fancy for the price. Overall if you're traveling through Barstow or looking for good Mexican eats... I recommend Casa Jimenez. Reasonable prices Generous Portions Delicious overall. Definitely a hidden gem. read more

Stopped by on my way to LA from Vegas to have breakfast. It was such an interesting experience. The staff was super friendly and portion sizes were big. The interesting part is the decor. They have so many animals all over the restaurant and hunting pictures. I have never seen some of the animals in real life so we spent the time waiting for our food figuring out each animal. I only ate in the restaurant once. It was such an unpleasant experience I never went back. Who wants to eat amongst a bunch of dead animals? I guess the owner's hobby is hunting and taxidermy, he has lots of taxidermy specimens all over the restaurant, including huge ones. I couldn't eat because I really lost my appetite. Went there twice in one weekend. The first time on my way to Vegas. We had the most amazing micheladas and I am a michelada connoisseur! The bartender was so sweet and friendly and talked to us the whole time while still paying attention to others at the little bar. The place was quiet and didnt have a lot of people. We came back the next day on the way home. Had again a michelada and this time the green enchiladas and albondigas. I only give it 4 stars because the albondigas were lacking in flavor. 5 years ago, we had a nice meal. Well, something has happened. Service was OK, not great, but the food was bad. I had the chicken burrito. The chicken was severely overcooked and dry as hell as well as being quite under seasoned. The wife had the flautas, also the same dry chicken plus the tortillas were burnt. During our trip home, we found this place right off the freeway. The woman's restroom needs attention. The stalls didn't have a place to hold your purse or bag and the smaller stalls door was too small for its frame and I wasn't able to lock the door and the lock on the larger stall was broken and hard to use. This place is definitely unique in decor with all the life-sized taxidermy animals. We didn't get to sample very much from their menu due to the fact we just wanted to eat and get back on the road. We had decent service. The lady was pleasant and attentive enough, considering she seemed to be the only one on the floor, and they were a little busy with the late lunch early dinner crowd. They serve you what looks like homemade chips with two salsas, a Verde and a Rojo, a green and red one. We decided on a bowl of menudo and a hard shell taco. They offer a white and red broth and we chose the red, It was lacking in flavor and color. I think it's probably because a red sauce is added to the white broth. You can definitely tell that the flavor from the red chilies was lacking in the tripe and hominy. We had to add some of the red and green salsas to our bowls. We took a bite into our tacos, and we were thrilled by how delicious they were. Nothing fancy, just cooked, right. They were filled with shredded beef and topped with shredded lettuce and cotija cheese. I wish we would have ordered more of them. Their menu seemed to cover all the framiliar basic Mexican foods and mariscos. It's suitable for large groups, and the bar seems to have a large variety of alcohol to accommodate a variety of adult beverages. I can see kids being excited to eat here because of all the stuff, animals, and photo opps. read more

Right off the northbound Barstow Road I-15 exit, you can enter from the street behind the restaurant, large parking lot for RVs, trailer towing trucks, very easy exit and re-enter I-15. The star is for the friendly staff and HUGE fajita portions. It's hard to tell what to believe with mixed reviews but we figured we'd try. Prices were fair for the portions but the taste was so so so bad. We only got fajitas and while they gave a LOT of food, it tasted just so bad. The steak was tough and absolutely flavorless. Not a shred of spice or marinade as far as the eye can see. And beware- the normal sized mango margaritas are $17 ish dollars and possibly contained zero tequila. Avoid if you like good fajitas! Skinny Cadillac margaritas are out of this world! It's around the corner from the DMV so I popped in for a quick lunch after signing in to DMV and was blown away by the cool taxidermy decor all throughout the restaurant. There's a lot to look at so it's a great place for families to enjoy the atmosphere and take a break from the desert heat. The ladies that work there are super friendly and run the restaurant with total professionalism coupled with attentive service. The food has very fair prices and is made with fresh ingredients. You can tell from the salsa to the fajitas that everything is made fresh daily. I would recommend this to anybody passing through either going to Vegas or coming California. It's a perfect distance in between to break up that drive and fill your belly with delicious some Mexican food. read more

This place deserves more than 3.5 Rating. All the low ratings are for the Interior decor, not for the food. I agree it needs a makeover, but this is family restaurant running for 30 years and they want to keep their hunting culture. Lot of Taxidermy displays with all kind of animals and birds. Food was affordable and in big quantity. Food was freshly made; rice and bean was cooked to perfection. We ordered Chicken Chimichanga, it was perfectly cooked and not so deep fried. Fish taco was decent, the fish was not that tasty. My son ordered Taquitos, it was good. The 4 star is for the great service from the staffs, especially Sonia, she is hilarious. And for the fresh food. I agree, it needs some décor upgrade and simplified menu. read more

We love casa Jimenez we have been coming here for 15 years or more. We are Hunters so we love the decor. Their food is authentic Mexican and absolutely delicious. When we walk in they recognize us and greet us like we're family. They are very attentive to our needs and bring us our refills immediately. They also make the best margaritas in town! The decor was flat out disgusting. I didn't even want to enter the establishment, however, my husband wanted to try it so I obliged. I was not impressed. That was one of the worst chile relleno's I have ever had. The taco and enchilada was okay but not great. On the bright side, the service was decent. Here's a riddle for "foodies:" What do mounted animals and Mexican food have in common? Yes, it's not a common combination, especially in the Mojave desert. I won't keep you in suspense any longer... Casa Jimenez Mexican Restaurant, in the charming desert city of Barstow. which is one of my favorite places to visit. You would think Casa Jimenez would be located in Alaska, as the restaurant showcases mounted animals not found anyplace near Barstow. The mounted animals are entertaining, and the food is delicious... I visited Casa Jimenez last year, and I'm just getting around to posting on Yelp my visit. The spacious, clean, comfortable dining room as you enter. Most likely the first thing you'll notice are the mounted animals. I believe Casa Jimenez Mexican Restaurant has more mounted animals on the walls than a nature museum! As soon as you enter, a friendly greeter will seat you. I didn't know there were zebras in Barstow, but there's one mounted on the wall. The menu features all of your Mexican favorites, with somethng for everybody. After four wheeling all day, I felt like fish, so I ordered the #69, which is "Majarra Frita - Pan Fried Fish, Fries and Salad." The menu didn't mention that rice and beans, along with a large stack of corn tortillas, are included, but the are, and the sides make it a complete meal. The fried fish was tilapia, which is very common in Mexican restaurants. The fish was perfectly fried, and actually had a lot of meat. When I was finished, all that remained was a skeleton, skin, and the head and tail. The fries, rice, beans, tortillas and salad were delicious. I loved my dinner, and left with a full stomach, and a smile on my face. Such a delicious dinner! All three of us raved about the food, the friendly service, and, naturally, the mounted animals. When you're in Barstow, and you're in the mood for delicious, authentic Mexican food, stop by Casa Jimenez Mexican Restaurant. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the decor, especially the mounted animals, are great. We were extremely satisfied with this fine restaurant, so I'll rate it a solid four stars. read more

I seriously advise against ordering from this menu. They will leave you with your first item and NEVER COME BACK. I'm seriously fuming right now. It's not even busy. On top of that, our waitress was mean. Not just unfriendly, but borderline scary. I heard the bathrooms are so bad I was advised to just wait til the next gas station. But the food, OMG, so good! I had a combo plate with chile relleno and crispy chicken taco, con rice and beans. Fluffy rice, smooth beans, and tasty relleno and taco, with a hint of lime sprinkled over it all with robust veggie slices and cotija cheese.
