This is the original Del taco from 1964. All the ingredients taste much fresher than other Del tacos and the items are much bigger like they use to be back in the day. The Bun Taco is only found here on the menu. The line could be to the door but the service is quick and you don't have to wait long for the food to come out after you sit down or waiting to go. If you are a fan of Del Taco and haven't been to this location you're missing out, I know it is only a fast food joint, but I do make it a point to stop at this location anytime I am driving out to Cali. The portions and quality of the food are what they should be at all other locations, but unfortunately all the other locations I visit or have visited miss the mark. I usually get their 1/2 pound bean and cheese, filled with beans, melty cheddar and sauce, reminds me of my childhood when I would occasionally get to have fast food for dinner and the portions were actually what they claim them to be, and although this location is always busy, they get your food out quickly, and It's on point. read more

This place is awesome! Stopped on a road trip. Got the food and brought it back to eat in the car. My husband and I started laughing when we opened it up. The food is huge. The taco was stuffed with meat and cheese, and his burrito was filled to the top with grilled chicken. How often are you happy with your fast food, for me it's almost never, but this put a smile on my face. And the cashier was helpful, very nice and fast. What? We always stop here on our way to Las Vegas. It's unique because it's the original, and you can find different things on this menu that you don't find at other Del Tacos. The bacon and egg tacos were good, and the cheese and egg taco was also good. The service is fast, so you can leave here quickly and hit the road again. The location is big. Had to check out this Del Taco because of other Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint!! This Barstow location near the Barstow Outlets serve items from the original Del Taco menu. Food came out quickly, big portion sizes for the taco and burritos, above average quality ingredients; everything was surprisingly delicious. I also ordered a cheeseburger and it was a legit burger - could be comparable to in-n-out if they added grilled onions. We were on our way to Disneyland when we decided to stop and grab some Del Taco. We didn't feel like sitting in the car and eating so we parked and went inside. I did not realize that this taco was one of the original or is the original Del taco. Is very retro inside and super clean. The food was very fresh, hot and tasted really good. We placed our order and we were given a number to put at our table, and the food was actually brought out to us. On the tables, they had hot sauce packets, and other condiments which I've never seen at any other Del taco location. When we are done eating, I was going to get up to throw my food away and a gentleman came over and said no ma'am I've got that for you. Highly recommend stopping here. One of these things is NOT like the other though! They may have similar items but it is different from other DT's and you won't view them the same! There's a few things only sold at this location as it's privately owned and this is one of them. Y'all know I grew up in a Mexican town and grew up w Mexican families and know Mexican cuisine! The meat is plentiful and delicious! Tastes like an abuelas in there hookin it UP!! It's simple, loads of meat, cheese, green chiles and sauce. Again I add extra cheese bc no halfway gangsters here. I love that it's wrapped in yellow paper, no direct connection to DT. Bc if you eat it you won't believe it came from one. I took one home to my friends mom, who makes some of the best beans I've EVER had! And she was like, "you're shitting me!" She couldn't believe where it came from! My mom loves it too and that's rare, and my cats not big on human food but somehow we discovered he fw pork ribs and carnitas. Idk. But he loves the meat too! Truly a family fave. And the price point for what you get is unreal! I've gotten extra before and frozen them lol. The other thing I get is the Barstow tostada. Tbh it's not that different in appearance than the regular DT one, but it does taste better and the cheese is fresher or something lol. The set up reminds me of old school Thriftys, though they only have the Neapolitan flavors. I had a strawberry cone. Shit got real, quick and I needed a cup. They have a Barstow burger and tacos and to my knowledge those are the different items. There could be more but you had me at carnitas burrito. I commonly do drive thru but went in for loo the other night. I was delighted to see that everyone in the kitchen was Mexican. If there's one advice, she had for me that I would always remember, it's that Del Taco in Barstow is way better than Del Taco anywhere else in the world. That's her quote. My thoughts...so far, she's right. This location is legit. This location is also one of the OG's and is currently one of the few that's still family ran/owned. I like to keep my order simple...just a couple of Barstow Tacos (minus the tomatoes and lettuce) and the Barstow Beef Burrito. Don't let their prices fool you. Both are packed with meat & flavor. Both are big enough to keep you full for a few hours. At this Del Taco, you can feed a family for about $20 or one me. Besides the portions and price, the highlight is their crunchy taco shell. Their shells are always fresh, never broken, never collapsed, and never soggy. As for the location itself, it's located right off Lenwood next to IN-N-Out. Expect a line and sometimes a busy dining area. It also can be a bit loud inside. Be prepared and do your homework before you place your order since there's a lot on the menu. If you're undecided...keep it simple and get the Barstow Taco. Maybe two. Just to be safe, get three. Forget being safe. Get four Barstow Tacos and a Barstow Beef Burrito. Seriously though...my friend told me about how good the Del tacos in Barstow are and I thought "how good could it possibly be?" So traveling through Barstow, I told my husband the story. He said let's try it. It is BY FAR,THE BEST DEL TACO!!! It tastes like homemade burritos made by Abuelita. Delicious refried beans with lots of cheese and sauce. And big!!! They aren't little puny burritos like the other Del tacos. Oh and they have a TOSTADA.... Not a crunchtada. The tostada was piled high with goodies. Messy, but delicious!! Happy Flashback Friday.... Where we're going... We don't need roads... Just tacos!! Nothing, I mean nothing compares to this high quality Del Taco experience. From dine-in to drive thru, Del Taco off Lenwood Rd is must stop detour worthy of you to explore. I can't tell you how many times I visited this location growing up, as well in my adulthood and have gone out of the way to pick up some quality favorites (with easy mods). The portions level compared to any other DT in the world is INCREDIBLE...with the exception of it's sibling location on 1st Street, also in the city of Barstow, California... But for some reason this one just excels to a higher standard. Unfortunately the very first location in Yermo didn't make it, my guess is because it was in Yermo (no shade, but nobody goes there... you just pass through, population has to still be less than 2k), not because it wasn't as amazing. We (High Desert alum and current residence) also considered the Lenwood Rd location just as OG original as it's brother and sister spots, in some ways more so because of the quality, care and service that goes into each meal prepared, order ordered and exchange of Del Taco lovers everywhere. They use these out of this world tortillas cooked with a light crispy, perfect hard shells, best crinkle cut fries, beans and various signature ingredients you can't get enough of. Sitting in your car and enjoy your meal curbside style is a favorite for me, but they do have tables and benches outside as well as seating inside. They've kept a lot of vintage charm mixed in with upgrades over the years... That make me flash back to life in the HD with my HDD (High Desert Divas and Divos), my bestie Christina Rocha behind the wheel of her perfect blue Toyota Celica. Passing through in a rental solo is still cool, but life is always better with friends, fam and people to share it with and Del Taco is life lol!! Side Bar: When Del still carried Beyond Meat products, the originals were some of the few that didn't actually carry it, which is more than okay as I still always have my 1/2 lb (red sauce preference) with no cheese/sin queso, 8 layers veggie (hold the dairy), hash browns, crinkle cut fries, crunchtada (no cheese) and future favs (as they are working on their own plant-based creation for the future)... but also a little surprising they didn't do more with it as I think it might have performed better being represented here and on 1st Street... But maybe that's just me... Q Tips: One burrito or taco can go along way, but two can do even more for you. There's a ton of parking. Restrooms for customers. And DT Lenwood is open until midnight everyday. I don't think I ever remember this location being open 24 hours if ever as we'd sometimes want to venture here after a night out, but they'd be closed so it was always wise to eat ahead or order extra - the same applies to road trips - get it while it's hot ;) I did notice the last time I was here I stopped eating at other locations for a while... The quality is way better than the ones back at home. You can tell that the beef is not greasy. Definitely not stingy with the cheese and they top it with small sliced tomato. If you like del taco you'll LOVE the original Barstow del taco. Otherwise, it's pretty much just like any other one. I really wanted to like the food, I was super excited to try it. Unfortunately it tasted pretty standard to any other del taco. The flavors of the meat and toppings in the bun taco get masked by the bun so I'd recommend getting a Barstow taco instead for that familiar del taco taste. Del cheeseburger has a big homemade vibe to it that's pretty comforting honestly. The ingredients tasted very fresh which I appreciate. Chili cheese fries... the chili is as fast food tasting chili can probably get. Not much seasoning but extremely salty and the cheese isn't melted so the overall texture was a little off putting. First time here and it was interesting to see that this place had slightly different options. The downside was this: they did not accept app offers. My experience was not great, the girl at the counter asked me if I wanted green sauce in my quesadilla, of course I said yes. Apparently when my order was done she just put it on the counter, no call outs or anything. I was wondering if that was my order and even making eye contact but nothing until I went in closer and stood there then someone else stepped up and called my number. Like really!? This is the spot I have been coming to for years whenever I'm passing through. The service here is always great! In all the years of coming here I have never had a bad experience with the food or employees. I love that they never skimp on the cheese. This place can get pretty busy especially on the weekends but the food is always out pretty quick. All the tacos were crammed with meat and cheese. The burritos were filled nicely and fat. The dining room is large with lots of seating available. *COVID Update* Dining room is open, but not all tables are free. Restrooms inside are clean! Parking lot is big enough. If you can't find parking, go to Starbucks. There is a drive-thru, but line gets long. Masks aren't required inside. The Barstow taco is $1.99 and not the typical hard shell taco. They actually stuff the taco and add a slice of tomato on top. It's much more filling than a regular taco. The Barstow chicken soft taco is $2.19 and slightly bigger than the typical soft taco. I thought it tasted the same and didn't find anything special about it. I tried the nachos here, and they were good for the price I paid. This location is not the original Del Taco location. Stopped by Del Taco in Barstow CA (Lenwood Store) on my way to Los Angeles. I went through the drive-thru and ordered a Barstow taco, bean burrito and chocolate shake. After paying I picked up my order and drove off. As I pulled out, I noticed that the shake was vanilla (not chocolate) and there was no bean burrito in the bag. I was so ticked off I simply drove by a trash can and threw the entire order in the trash. I will never give my business to a Del Taco again. read more

At first I was confused on why this particular Del Taco is highly rated, but silly me for not knowing some fast food history. This Del Taco is the oldest running one and operates differently than its fast-food-chain counterparts. Get the Barstow tacos! Lots of ground beef in them. Big handful of shredded cheese on top. As for taste, eh it's nothing special. The meat is a bit bland but that's nothing some Del Taco taco sauce can't fix. The tacos are pretty filling though (I was satiated after eating just one). Great that they are about only $2 each. Definitely consider checking this place out if you want quick inexpensive food (especially when it comes to planning a Vegas road trip.....gotta save some money somewhere!). I don't always eat fast food, but when I do it's Del. I was so excited to try this original location, which I had a few years ago but it was drive-thru. This time, on our way home from Death Valley we decided to stop and dine indoors. Service was friendly and fast, and the tacos were fresh; I ordered the #6 and my husband ordered chicken soft tacos.
