I got the Barstow tacos and chili cheddar fries. They put a lot of cheddar cheese on the tacos and the fries. I don't really eat hard shell tacos with ground beef. It reminded me of my childhood when we didn't know what a real taco was. But the food was good and fresh. I came in the morning, and we were the only people inside, so our service was fast. There were a lot of people going through the drive thru though. The place is clean as well as the restrooms. On the table they have a basket of a lot of hot sauce packets. It's a cool place to stop by on your way to Las Vegas and try something that is unique to Barstow. read more

Having a full California experience, I told hubs we should stop at a Del Taco for lunch during a road trip. Is it the best place ever? No. But is it better than other fast-food taco joints? I'd say yes. We got a couple of soft chicken and hard beef taco combos so we could split them and try both. Again, for what it was, I was pleased. The service is great. The restaurant is clean. We have been stopping here for years and my last 2 visits have just been okay. The fries were warm, but I feel like my bun taco is just warm enough not to say it's cold. The meat is not juicy and the cheese is so cold that it just sits in top of it. Disappointed. If you like Del Taco and you're passing through Barstow, this is a must stop. This is the original Del Taco (some argue that the Del Taco on 1st streets the original). They don't sell a regular "snack" taco or a regular grilled chicken taco, they only have the Barstow for these two items and they are super sized. They are at least twice the size if not larger than the regular you'd get at another location. I use to drop by here on the way back from the river in my younger days (they do have limited parking if you are hauling your boat). I forgot how huge the portions were and made the mistake of getting my normal 2 grilled chicken tacos a couple of months back. One is enough! Very disappointed I did a drive thru order today,I ordered seasoned fries well,well done and my jack cheese quesadilla well done as well.I had to pull up and wait when I got home I noticed my fries were not fried to my liking or seasoned(but they sure charged me).There was barely any cheese in my jack cheese quesadilla I order here frequently.I usually dine in and I notice how my food is prepared differently when I order take out it's just not the same as dining in.I think the cooks and and food preps can do a better job not a happy customer. read more

Ok, I have never reviewed a fast food restaurant in all my Yelping years but this place deserves all the stars. First, this location is one of the original locations opened. Second, this location serves some of the best food ever. Whenever I am bound for California I make a choice to stop here for breakfast, lunch or a snack and I am never disappointed. Service is absolutely stellar and the restaurant itself is so clean thanks to the employees that work here. I always get my food to go and when I open the wrapper of my Del Taco it is bursting with cheese, yes a ton of cheese. Other Del Taco locations do not load their tacos the way this location does. The hype is kinda true. Definitely better than your typical Del Taco, but prices are higher as well. Will I go back? Hell yeah. I love Del Taco and an elevated Del Taco is worth the extra cost. The Barstow taco and green burrito were the stand outs for me. The taco shell just seemed crisper, the beef fresher and the green sauce was like the good old days where you could actually taste it. The beef combo burrito was really good as well, but didn't stand out like the taco and green burrito. Food and menu is that of the original since it IS the original location...? Service is amazing and very Clean Eating Area and Bathrooms too! Prices are much to be desired and regardless of the "State of the Economy" it shouldn't be over $30 to feed two average sized people. Only reason I come here is because I do enjoy the Chicken Spicy Jack Quesadilla and Deluxe Chili Cheese Fries. For years, your locations -- especially the one in Barstow -- were a place I proudly recommended to friends and travelers. I would often tell people that if they were passing through, they had to stop at Del Taco because the food quality and experience were consistently better than the typical fast food stop. Unfortunately, over time I have noticed a significant decline in both quality and customer experience. One of the things that used to make Del Taco feel welcoming and convenient was having condiments readily available on the tables. Now, customers have to ask for everything, and sometimes it feels like we are inconveniencing staff just to get basic items. This shift makes the experience feel no different from other fast food chains -- and that is disappointing because Del Taco used to stand out. Additionally, the food itself no longer seems to match the quality it once had. The tacos are not as stuffed as they used to be, and the burritos appear noticeably smaller. Portion size and consistency were part of what built customer loyalty, and those changes have not gone unnoticed. I cannot help but wonder if there have been recent management or cost-cutting decisions that are affecting quality and service. While reducing costs may make sense on paper, it risks losing the very things that made your brand special in the first place. Known for being the 1st ever Del Taco, you can certainly feel a different vibe when you walk in to this almost vintage style Del Taco. The decor reminds me of the fast food restaurants from the 90s. But even the way they operate here is different, with numbers to take to your tables where a person will deliver your food. Every time we're on our way to Vegas we stop by here for a bun taco and a tostada. Two slices of carrot cake to go are always crispy, the staff is always extremely helpful and friendly, and the vibes are just right. I hope this Del Taco is here forever. read more

Overall: 4.1/5 (dine in) It was my first time trying Del Taco and I was so excited since this location had 4 stars. It seems like this place has location specific tacos since it had Barstow in the name but I could be wrong. The food came out quickly after we ordered. The packaging was great; they wrapped the tacos in an aluminum foil to keep the food warm then wrapped that with a yellow paper one. Fish Taco ($3.29): They wrapped a lime wedge separate from the fish taco but the fact that they even include it for a fast food restaurant was impressive. The fish taco was a bit small but it was good. It does have a bit of a fishy taste to it at the middle of the fish stick. Still really good overall, especially with the lime. No sauce needed. Bun Taco ($3.39): This is basically a taco filling placed on 2 hamburger buns. It was interesting to try but we wouldn't get it again. The mashup just didn't work. I think the meat didn't have enough flavor so I had to add a lot of hot sauce. Barstow Steak Street Taco ($2.89): You can choose between chicken or steak and we were recommended the steak. I was surprised by how tender their steak was. The flavors on this taco was phenomenal. It tasted just like the one you can get on the street but without that oily, warm tortilla. This might be the best Del Taco location that I've been to. It gets a decent amount of traffic due to it's history and location but the staff here is good and they keep the place clean. I usually get the Barstow taco which is larger than the hard shell taco and they pile on the lettuce and cheese and definitely don't skimp on the taco meat. My middle sister, niece and I came to this Del Taco for our rest stop in Barstow on 12/30/22 as we were heading to Las Vegas. We arrived about 2pm. The older niece was such a good sport as she was pretty open to any food . I initially was not feeling Del Taco as my heart was set on Wendy's as there was none in the area. However, I feel bad that I didn't want Del Taco as this was the BEST fast food experience EVER. We did drive Thru and the worker was so polite and helpful! I ended up getting the Spicy Chicken Del Taco Quesadilla which was absolutely delicious. It was hot and fresh definitely flavorful. The best quesadilla ever! The fries were hot and crunchy from my sisters meal. The niece and sister got burgers. Sister said her burger was the best burger she has ever had in awhile and the niece absolutely enjoyed it. The food was fresh, fast, tasty and delicious. They got our order accurately and the customer service was on point. Would definitely come here to this location again. We were all full and satisfied!
