This is hands down the worst organization I've ever dealt with. The customer service is atrocious, follow-up is nonexistent, and the billing process is a nightmare. I originally started as a customer with Pac West Propane, which was absolutely fantastic--but then Suburban Propane acquired them, and everything went downhill. Company is a joke. We paid $1000 for a fill on Dec. 20th. It's Jan 7...they've told us they were coming to fill no less than 5 times and never show. When we call, they are rude and tell us we were never put on the schedule (why? no clue. they never give a reason other than they're short staffed). It's actually laughable at this point. We have less than 5% left in our tank at this point, which our heat relies on solely in the current temps. Nobody at the company thus far has cared if we run out and have no heat. The manager finally called back today (Sophia in the Goshen office) after 4 days of not returning calls and was rude, arrogant, and didn't care whatsoever. The service has been absolutely amazing! I recently experienced severe delay issues with Amerigas as they continued to push me out on the moving and refilling of my tank. I began to perform due diligence and found Suburban Propane. I did see some of the older reviews, but figured to give them a call to see what they would say. From Ellie in the front office, to Rick the engineer, to Joachim the area manager, the service was white glove level. They surveyed my site for free, recommended a better approach than Amerigas had suggested, reduced the initial estimated price, provided a temporary tank to address the challenge I was facing with Amerigas, and expedited delivery. They not only sold me as a customer, they won me, and have earned my loyalty if their service continues. I would definitely give them a call if you have propane needs. read more

We had a small, yet important servicing need on our propane tank. Noone, wanted to take the "one-off" job. The two nationwide competitors wouldn't even roll a truck unless we got a monthly subscription credit account! Suburban didn't care and rolled the truck and let us pay with a credit card. They were fast, professional, on-point! They charged us less than they deserved! I cannot say enough about their professional, eager-to-please attitude, from the customer service reps., to the driver to billing - "top notch" all the way. Horrible. Since I've started their service they have let a family of 6 run out of propane. When I call, I get "Oh well, we can come in 5 days." That is not adequate when they have a monitoring system on my tank that is supposed to be refilled at 30%. Last time they came after we were out for 5 days and said "Sorry we forgot to monitor it". $403 later they filled it to 70%, and here we are again. Empty. I called to request immediate fill was promised a call back yet again and nothing. Don't bother unless you want to be left in the cold. read more

Suburban Propane is absolutely awful. I have never felt as abused as a customer as I have with Suburban Propane. Their rates are double those of their competitors. They use their contracts to lock customers in to their inflated rates and when you finally finish with your contract, they charge you ninety dollars to remove their tank from your property. Suburban Propane is currently in the middle of a pending class action lawsuit that point out their price gouging in addition to other nefarious activities. Steven must work for Suburban. These people are fraudulent shysters. I have been a customer for way too long. I am soon to be a former customer. Last week I watched on my surveillance cameras as their driver opened my tank and expelled who knows how many gallons of gas into the air. Not only is this horrible for the environment but then he proceeded to fill my tank. Obviously he had to add more than i needed because of the gas he lost. Then I got the bill. They charged me $2 more per gallon than the going rate. I am now purchasing my own tank so I can price shop. So far the people I like best are from Cenex! read more

Had a commercial account for a few years. Went around 6 months before realizing they were charging around 3 to 4 times more than the competition on our auto fill ups. We believe we over paid around $30,000 before we realized and stopped buying propane from them. read more

My experience with Suburban propane was excellent. Very helpful and polite. They took care of my needs quickly and professionally.

Buy your propane somewhere else. We just changed over our furnace to an electric heat pump and now Suburban Propane says they won't credit us for the $1500 worth of propane in the tank. This is after I was told by them that they would credit us for the amount of propane left in the tank. Also we have had a ~$1000 credit balance for over a year and now they refuse to refund that either. Talking to them is way too frustrating. Stay away. read more

I was a Suburban customer for over a year. The Good: Responded to my needs and installed an external tank for my RV within a week. The Bad: 1. High cost install, install was $199 including regulator and hose fabrication plus delivery $200.2. After a year, I returned the tank $90 pick up charge, no credit for $200 fuel in tank (80% full), or regulator (they claimed it was theirs), plus $90 removal fee. 3) Fuel delivery at $1.90 gal plus delivery charge $20, plus training charge $10, plus tax of whole $20. The typical per gal price is over $5.00 per delivery with a minimum of once every 3 months. RIPPED OFF -- never again! Email stated prior to pickup they would charge 0.75 gal to pump as a credit...LOL THey did not offer a credit after pickup...said they never did, just like the regulator I bought was never mine....RIPPED!!! read more

Price gouging! Don't buy propane from them! I thought they were a decent company until they recently refilled my tank and charged double what everyone else charges (I checked other company prices). I called them up and they did not even blink. I have switched companies, but still have to pay a $600 bill for my recent tank refill. Make sure you check around and don't get automatic refill, double check their prices before getting your tank filled. read more

The absolute worst! My tank float didn't work and they wouldn't fix it after repeated requests. Terrible customer service. CALL AROUND FOR PRICES! I didn't and found out too late that Suburban charges sometimes twice as much as other companies. I can't believe the money I wasted! They should be sued. Overall just a unpleasant experience. We made the mistake of signing up for service, against our neighbors suggestion. Being gluttons for punishment, we stuck with them for the terms of our agreement (3 agonizing years). Aside from their high rates, it took them 2 years to follow through on our request to only deliver 2x a year. The ladies at Suburban I spoke to were nice enough, but since we signed that contract they could do nothing for us. Though today my wife was told by one of the reps at Suburban that we made a "huge mistake" going with a competitor because they will "do the same to us". Funny, Suburban admitted they were screwing us! Never, ever sign a contract with Suburban. Go with a company that does not have a length of terms, otherwise you will be stuck with a huge fee if you wish to cancel. read more

When we got our fireplace insert that ran off propane, we were referred to Suburban propane. This was the worst advice I had ever received. This company is crooked and deceitful. We signed a 3 year contract which stated the fees would be based off of market fluctuations. I was shocked when after a year of service, I had my tank refilled as usual and was charged nearly $6.00/gal. I checked around the area and this was 3x the going rate for propane. I come to find out that this is common practice for this company around the country. When I called them to find out why I was charged so much they said because I was not purchasing enough to get the lower rate. No where in the contract does it say this, otherwise I would have never signed it. The staff at their office are rude and unhelpful. When I cancelled my contract and they came out to pick up the tank, they charged me $98.55 for 15 mins of labor. When we questioned them about this charge they said they had the right to charge us any cost to remove the equipment. I would avoid this company at all costs. I have since received my propane from another company and have had much better customer service and a fair market rate for my fuel. No hidden fees and no long term contract. Go elsewhere!!!
