I would give them zero stars if I could. The absolute worst company to receive services. Unfortunately for us we can't change companies because we live in a multi unit community. Their accounting dept took over 9 months to figure out why our bill was so high and didn't correlate with our meter. Now they just guestimate our bill, we pay it and it takes months for them to reconcile it so instead of paying our regular bill monthly we get hit with a HUGE bill. I moved up to NorCal from San Diego where we didn't use propane, so I didn't do my research, and now I'm paying the price--literally. Customer service people are friendly over the phone, but they charge you through the nose (we have paid $5.23/gal for the past 3 months in a row; the going rate right now is about $2.20/gallon). They also charge you a $300 cancellation fee if you break your 3 year contract. (I didn't read the fine print on my contract when I signed it, so I'm giving them an extra star because that was on me.) But I've looked into other companies and even if I break the contract and pay the $300, I'll STILL end up paying less. Learn from my mistake--don't get your propane from these guys. read more

Suburban propane is a joke. The "manager" does not know how to do anything efficiently. We moved into our new home at the beginning of this year and we are on a meter. Keep in mind this started in January and continues until today. Before we officially moved in suburban had already came out, did an official inspection since we had to go with them for propane for the moment instead of getting our own tank. After we moved in, it became my job to get the propane switched into our name so that we could be charged. Then began the huuuggeee hassle of switching the propane into our name. It look at least 6 phone calls, some answered some not. And 2 trips to the actual office to get information about what is going on. The first time I went to the office it was Friday in the middle of the day when they are supposed to be open and they were closed. And then the next time I went in the office it turns out they have had my paperwork in the computer the whole entire time! Why wasn't I being charged? Who knows. And every time I talked to them everything was"taken care of" so I don't need to worry anymore. So I wait longer, and it's still not correct. Keep in mind every time I spoke to the manager he tried to get me to pay the $75 again for the inspection which was already paid for. The last time when I came from the office at the beginning of this month I assumed I was clear enough, I would pay the $120 for the security deposit but the other fee was paid for. Then I receive a call from the manager an hour later. I explain again what happened, and that my information was in the computer so it's not my fault, and he asked about the inspection. Again. I explained no, it's been paid for and he agrees. THEN, this morning at 10 AM a suburban guy shows up at my door for AN INSPECTION!? Which I did not schedule obviously. And I work from 10:30 pm to 7am and I have 2 children 5 and under. You do not have your workers show up at someones house early. That is not okay. And the worker who actually came to my door this morning was actually really understanding about everything. He actually told me "yeah, I'm pretty sure I remember (coworker name) doing it!" I don't know if the guy from management is overwhelmed or what, but my bill better look right this month. And as soon as I can save up for our own tank I am switching companies. read more

All I see here are 1 stars, and now I know why. We use them, they let our tank run dry in the middle of winter. I check the tank this time (cause I don't trust them) and it's almost empty, so I started calling them since Sunday and was told by someone in the office we were scheduled for Monday, so I call back on Tuesday and they tell me, they will schedule it, were on auto fill and it isn't happening. Don't do business with these guys! They price gouge you and let your tank run dry. I am on a scheduled delivery and they let my tank run dry which lets propane leak from my water heater that is in the garage. I called them so they can send out their on call delivery driver to come fill my tank being that my propane supplies my heating, water heater and my stove top and oven. Andrew the on call delivery driver called me and told me " I don't drive bobtails so I can't fill your tank". This was confusing why Suburban propane would have a emergency on call delivery driver in a position where he can't do the job." Andrew then proceeded to tell me " I'll call my supervisor Jim and let him know to do it tomorrow". When I asked him to have Jim call me he said " I'll tell him but it doesn't mean he's going to call you". When I told him "ok well I guess I'll call the call center again". In the rudest tone he said " yeah go ahead. Call them". This is just one incident. The last time they ran my tank dry they tried to charge me $9.21 a gallon. The price of their propane was almost 3 times that of all the other propane companies in the same area. I have a 500 gallon tank so you could imagine my surprise when the driver handed me the receipt. When I called them to correct the pricing the office assistant that answered the phone let it slip in our conversation that my previous fill up was $7.58 a gallon. This company is a nightmare. When I bought my house the previous owner used Suburban Propane and the tank was on a lease contract. I Don't have a contract with them. The tank is also buried under ground on the corner of my property. At this point I want them to come excavate the tank so I can purchase one to own and utilize either Kamps Propane or 49er Propane in Placerville,CA. They seem to have better reviews. read more

Last year was our first time ever buying propane. The house came with a Suburban Propane tank. So we called them. It was $327 to fill the tank. This year we called to have them deliver. We let them come while we were at work. I got home and found the bill on our gate. $944 for the same amount of gas last year. $5 a gallon. I called around and found no other company was even charging over $3 a gallon!!! It took me 3 weeks to get the manager Cody on the phone. I had to insist on waiting on hold until he took my call. Horrific business practices. Just moved out of an apartment using them, and their final bill ended up being $85 for 6 gallons of propane. That's not an exaggeration. My propane tank went dry because Suburban Propane failed to regularly check and top off my tank. This caused my hot water heater pilot light to go out. When the driver was called out and filled my tank ($600 later) he proceeded to tell us that he can't light the pilot. This started a series of phone calls to their office back east to try to get them to send a trained driver over to light the pilot. Five days of no heat and no hot water and I finally got a local plumber to come over. It took 60 seconds for him to light the pilot. I called to have the tank removed and was told it would be picked up in 2-3 weeks... it's now been 7 weeks. We've ordered propane from Suburban for a couple of years. We run a campground and are only there during the summer. At the time I ordered my tank filled in early June, propane prices in the area were between $2.20 - $2.65/gallon. I was not told what the price was until my tank was filled at $5.43/gallon. I told them I wasn't paying that and to come pick up the tank. They said I signed a contract (I did not) and they would charge me $300 to pick up the tank. They said the reason for the high price was COVID - that enough gas wasn't being produced. I asked why Idle Wheels was able to get it. No answer. This was the worst customer service I have ever received in my 50 years of life. This company took my order and scheduled a delivery that never came. I called and they said unapologetically, that they thought they put in the order but forgot. They did not call to alert me of this I had to call. When I did they told me this and said that they could not deliver until 4 days later. This was in the middle of winter and we had no hot water, gas appliances, or heat. The delivery that was now to be a week late also never came due to weather conditions. It was postponed until Thursday. When that did not show up they told me Friday. It came on Friday and I was there to receive it. I asked the driver if he needed to light the pilot and he said no, I was good. I was not good. I went into the house and turned on the appliances to see that there was no gas. I called again and they said they would send someone out. The driver came and left without calling or making an any attempt to get in touch. The gate was unlocked, and I was looking out the window liberally due to the urgency of the situation. So if he came he was a ninja. I called again an hour and a half later. This was after hours and they said they would have someone call me. He did and was extremely aggressive and rude, claiming I wasn't there and there was nothing in the world that would bring him back out. I pleaded with him and offered him a tip of $100 and he would not come out. It was literally 20 minutes from his location. He suggested I do it myself and to read the manual. I asked if he could walk me through it and he hung up. Now I will have to pay an emergency rate of $255 just to have them come out and do something they should have done when I asked them. Michael the tech doesn't know how to do his job because he came to our house when we smelled propane and said nothing was wrong when our tank was empty! After we tried to schedule delivery we were told that they would no longer provide delivery service due to the size of the gate into the community. TOTAL BS, they had been delivering to this community for years. Their trucks are only half the size of the garbage truck that service the community. Recently we had some guests leave a window open and cause our gas to run completely out of the house. We had the house rented for Christmas and for New Year's and was going to have to cancel both reservations because we couldn't get somebody out to deliver gas. they worked their magic and had somebody there in under 48 hours and have since been significantly easier to deal with than our former gas provider... highly recommend them! read more

The rates are outrageous, I only use propane for hot water and the stove, I never run my heater and my bill is still 200 a month. We bought a house that already was on a meter propane tank. We requested to be removed from the meter and set up for on-call delivery only. They took 7 months for this to be installed. Then they charged us over $400 for the gas that was supposedly already in the tank. They refused to show us itemized charges. Then after being reassured by the manager that no one would deliver gas without being request to, someone came and delivered gas 2 weeks later. We have been trying to reach them (phone, email and webforms) for the last 5 months. Every time we were able to talk to "customer service," they said a manager will call us the next day to resolve this. No one ever called back. After growing more frustrated, I offered to pay for the delivery I didn't not order as long as they gave a discount on the rate for their mistake. The employee named Mindy that I talked to said she would charge 2.5 instead of 3.1. We'll, guess what? She charged my card the full amount anyways. This is the most incompetent business I've ever dealt with. They have broken every aspect of our contract. Did not file our contract for on-call, did not deliver new tank for 6 months, damaged a tree during installation, continues to fill our tank even though we have not ordered, etc. The GM, Ryan, promised that he would ensure that our contract was honored moving forward. Instead, my wife and I were billed for propane we did not order. We sent multiple emails, online messages, and calls disputing the charge and were never responded to until today when they threatened to turn off service. My wife was told that if she paid, they would honor our last rate and drop the late fees - otherwise they would disconnect. Not only is that extortion, but she didn't honor our agreed upon rate. For example; They give you a competitive fill the first time like most Companies do, but then take advantage of you after that and pretty much double the price per gallon of the going rate. Late April 2020, average going rate from 5 different Companies I found and called in El Dorado Co. $2 per gallon. Suburban's price FOR THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS $4.17. Don't do it, you'll be sorry. This Company needs to be investigated, they are truly the worst POS I've ever dealt with. Okay -- I am going to try to give a balanced review of this company. My experience: 1. I took over the propane tank/lease when I bought a house in January of 2010. The first propane fill was $2.49 per gallon. 2. They came every few weeks and checked/refilled my tank. I was never without fuel for a winter. 3. The prices have steadily gone up until my last bill -- which was about $4.50 last year. 4. I asked why so high, and I was told that China needed our fuel because of a brutal winter, so the export caused a high demand, and the prices were high. Check your tank in a few months and call back to schedule a refill. Prices should be about $2.50 in the summer. 5. I waited until Summer -- luckily I did not run out. I called and asked about prices, and I was told the prices were $4.67 per gallon but that they should come down soon. 6. I called again 2 weeks later, and the prices were $4.47 per gallon. Why so high? Well, they have rate lock options that can get the lowest rates down to 3.50ish per gallon. But, my usage was so low last year -- (Because I was afraid of another $500 bill for 100 gallons) -- so I had to pay a higher rate. 7. I mentioned that I was going to call around to other companies to price check. Many of the other smaller companies were charging $2.29 for their rate for summer, and their Winter high was $3.39. 8. Hmmm, something seems fishy here. 9. So, I call Suburban back and and am told that these other companies won't fill your tank in the Winter and will leave you hanging. They charge more because they always have fuel, and they have the best customer service. I have not switched over to anybody yet. Pros: 1. Timely fuel delivery. They never left me stranded. 2. They worked with me to allow me to spread out payments 3. I was always able to get a hold of somebody when I called, and they are friendly Cons: 1. The price per gallon is $1 to $2 higher than other companies 2. Some of my Winter fill up rates for a little over 100 gallons was close to $500. That is a big hit! At this point, I don't know that I will stay a customer. read more

We had a major fire here in the county with thousands evacuated, many on tanked gas. When they got home after the evacuations were lifted AFTER NINE DAYS, those that have Suburban Propane, at least in two areas, were told that it would be 4 days for a relight and there would be a $75 charge.... Been with Suburban for years, and recently found out that the regulator on our RENTED tank was leaking, and had leaked out at least 10% of the gas we had paid for. We were required to pay $90 for the "labor" of replacing their broken regulator, on their tank. The whole point of renting it is so that they are responsible for the entire system, yet here I sit with a bill for labor, on a part and a tank I do not own. Absolutely ridiculous. I will be looking for a replacement company, and will no longer refer people to use them! read more
