The price of a 30,000 mile inspection was shocking to me at $785. At first I thought that it was way too high and then someone told me it was normal. I looked on line after paying the bill & these things seem to be quite pricey. In the past they did a different job and the cost was high as well but I think they are talented as they figured out what the problem was and they did a great job so I'm pleased. I used Mike to put a Subaru engine in my Vanagon. Its a big job and my van is my baby. First and foremost, I love the new 2.5 engine and the power it has provided. But, what is more important is how someone stands behind their work. Putting an engine in a 25 year old vehicle (that is not the same brand) is going to have tweaking afterwards. No matter how small my issues are (and they are big to me), Mike gets me down to the shop and does all the tweaks free of cost. Mike is a friendly, experienced guy. He knows Subaru WRX's well. He replaced my clutch on my '04 WRX. When I came back thinking I may need a head gasket done, he quoted me the lowest price I could find by a margin of a couple of hundred dollars, because I was a repeat customer, and then helped me determine that I actually didn't need to replace my head gasket at all. He's offered me plenty of free advice over the phone and by e-mail and also provided advice on where to find the cheapest parts to keep repair prices down. read more

So I'm having a problem with my '04 WRX. I took it down to Mike at Subietech. He waited for me at the appointed time we discussed. Took the car for a test ride, looked over my motor, diagnosed it...Very professional yet did not make me fill like I couldn't ask questions that to him im sure had obvious answers. he made me feel like we were buddy's sitting in the garage working on our own car sipping' a brew!.... If you're a subaru owner and you don't know anything about cars like me, its essential to have a good, reliable subaru mechanic because regular mechanics just don't cut it and if anything, try to rip you off cuz subarus have a repuation of having higher repair costs. So here's my story: the AC in my 2002 wrx stopped working so I took it to my local well-repsected mechanic who told me I needed a new AC compressor which he said would cost me at least $1000 to repair (parts + labor). I called around other shops and got similar quotes. With such high repair costs, I had to consider selling my car since it already had 150K miles on it but other than the AC, the car was running fine. As a last resort (and driving around in the unbearable heat) I decided to take the car to a subaru mechanic. Within 1 minute of looking under my hood, Mike at Subietech told me my AC belt was gone (most likely it had worn out). So I bought a new belt at Napa Auto down the street for $16, Mike installed it (along with some bulbs that needed to be replaced) and voila! My AC was working!! YAY!!! Mike only charged me for 1/2 hour labor so my total cost for fixing the AC was about $50, meaning Subietech saved me close to $1000!! And just to let you know--before I brought my car in, I had talked to Mike on the phone about how much it would cost to to remove, replace, and recharge the ac compressor and Mike quoted me only $675--which still would have been huge savings compared to the other places I had gotten quotes from. Mike is a honest, cool guy who has a passion for subarus. I'm so glad I took my car to him. read more

Mike at SubieTech is extraordinary. He went above and beyond. My OEM radiator blew, I ordered an aluminium after market radiator from him and it was here next day. I had a problem with radiator (not SubieTech's fault, it was a defective radiator) and he went out of his way to return it to the distributor on his off hours and getting it to me as soon as possible. Mike even went as for to point me in the right direction to avoid common problems with the after market installation. I wanted to replace my timing belt as well and everyone on www.NASIOC.com told me to take it to "paulsaidhi" because he is a terrific mechanic. Well now "paulsaidhi" works at SubieTech. I was a little short on cash for the job and have 13k miles till the scheduled maintenance says to replace the timing belt, but I will be definitely taking it to SubieTech for that job next year. -paul pierre read more

Mike did a pre purchase general inspection on a 2007 3.0 outback I was looking to buy - quickly identified signs of internal head gasket leaks, a previous blow of the coolant system, oil pan and power steering pump leaks. I highly recommend Mike and Subietech. He knows and loves Subarus and does great work. We discovered that our 2000 Outback (150k miles) needed its head gaskets replaced shortly before we were scheduled to leave on a 5,000 mile road trip that involved towing a trailer with two complete whitewater raft outfits and several kayaks (up huge climbs and in 100+ degree heat). Called and visited a dozen or so places, and Mike's reasonable price and evident knowledge over the phone led me to decide it was worth it to tow it the 60 miles or so to Downey. Just had Mike install an electric trailer brake controller on my 2016 Outback. Cost was way less than other places I checked, and Mike really did go out of his way to talk with me and make sure it was installed right, and exactly the way I wanted. He even pointed out a 'split unit' model of controller that was available, and a much better fit for my situation than the typical controllers. Won't hesitate to bring my car here again! read more

I have a 2013 Outback that stranded us in Bend, Oregon on our way back from Washington to San Diego last week. The throw out bearing had disintegrated, while newish, it was out of warranty. It happened late Friday afternoon just before dealership service depts. closed. Our dealership in Carlsbad, Bob Baker Subaru basically said "you are out of warranty so we don't care....have a good weekend..hahahahah..click"....The dealership in Bend said "love to help you but happy hour is starting, call back in the morning and maybe we can fit you in". Mike said "how can I help? Bring it by first thing in the morning and we'll see what we can do". He diagnosed the throw out bearing in about 12 seconds. Since I was carless, he drove me to the dealership to buy the parts and dropped me at the hotel and he went to work. He did the teardown that day. The next morning he discovered that the dealership had given me the wrong parts. THIS WAS A SUNDAY MORNING AND HE WAS WORKING ON MY CAR!!! Since the parts dept was closed on Sunday I had to wait until Monday morning to tell the dealership that they had pulled the wrong parts.... Part arrived on tues, Mike fixed it, we got on the road and made it home safely. Mike was fast, accurate, professional and cool all at the same time. I had some follow up questions the next day and he was responsive and helpful. All in all he spent much more time than he billed me, between the actual repair, working with Subaru, acting as a taxi driver etc he spent at least 4 more hours than he quoted for the actual repair. Mike does not have some high tech garage, but somehow from his modest garage he managed to make a large international car company look like a bunch of fools as he did laps around them with his great customer service, fair prices and excellent work. You will not find a better choice to work on your car than Mike. Thank you Mike...you saved our butts...but I am still trading in this Suckaru for a Toyota. The Caldwell Family read more
