I called to schedule a service appointment - the girl kept me on the phone for 5 minutes and wouldn't answer any of the questions I had. I was trying to schedule another visit. The representative at Subaru Service started yelling at me that they were open certain days or times. I asked her to let me know when the soonest appointment they had available was. She just kept yelling "we're not open late!" and "you can't come in on weekends." I responded by saying "I understand. I would just like to schedule a service, when are you available?" She would not answer me. I never got an answer of when they had an availability and before she hung up on me she just yelled "just go somewhere else!" I definitely won't be going to this location again. I find this to be extremely unprofessional and rude. read more

This review is LONG overdue. I went to get my cars oil and filter changed back in September 2022. Everything went fine until I got in the car -- it started making a whistling sound while idle and ruffling when the AC was turned on. Here I thought it could just be a leaf that got caught somewhere (silly me). I've owned luxury cars up until this point so my maintenance was always top tier and if something went wrong, I'd just bring it back and they'd fix for free. When I heard these noises, I just assumed maybe this happens when things are replaced in a Subaru (again, silly me). I popped the hood to only find that my COOLANT was drained... MY COOLANT. I have a 2021 forester so there is very little reason as to why the coolant evaporated especially when it was under 7000mi. Whoever did the maintenance on my vehicle drained the coolant since it was below 'low'... wow.. shady AF. Needless to say, I will not be returning to service my vehicle here. Ps- Steve is a wonderful sales person and I highly recommend him. Just don't do service here. read more

Went for customer service and was treated horrifically by the manager of service Donna and A very curt Charlene. I won't get into their response to me when I was telling them what was going on with the car they seem not to care just cause I didn't buy the car at their dealership! I was there for almost 4 hours. I got my car home and it didn't look like a new battery that they were supposed to put in because the car does not keep a charge. There is a class action suit I found out later after buying my car months ago against the situation. I paid almost 32,000 I and my 2004 Honda CRV for years I left in Florida and we started with nobody turning it on for four months or more and worked I had 10 jumps in a short period of months. And this is the treatment I get The best is yet to come I got my car because I had to call up the main Subaru office and he called them telling them to put in a new battery and check the fluids. I don't know if they've checked all the fluids it appears they sold me fluids because one guy who jumped the car twice from papa lock said it's almost on the second line you better get the fluids put in here or you'll overheat When I told the girl that she said that's not true what do they know!? The Subaru I bought the car from was in New Jersey and I believe old bridge. The manager Mike once again did not help When I got home I open the hood and I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of my other battery my inside of my car is pristine as it only has 2274 Miles on it. Now I know why the car just doesn't hold a charge like others. I never in my life was treated so poorly and unprofessionally without care in my life and I'm a senior. I got home to open my hood And noticed they put a metal bar screwed in across my battery I never saw that in my life! Is this safe what is it. The battery they put in was totally dusty dirty is it an old battery? I brought my 2019 Legacy into these guys for a factory recall.- the fuel pump. Fixed it in "record time" Until I was on the highway, and 2 hours later it stalled, leaking gas all over the highway (Mosholu Parkway ext from HHudson Pkwy) It turns out that the recall repair was extremely sloppy, as the person who "repaired" the fuel pump neglected to tighten it, causing it to lose pressure and me to stall, spewing gas on the highway. A good Samaritan helped me push the car off the roadway and to SC credit, after I demanded they send someone over to fix the problem their repair caused, they did, within 20 minutes. However, I am glad that I service the car at a better run local garage where they are much more careful. And btw, far less costly than the dealer. read more

I told Eddy I wanted a 2019 Subaru Forester and my mind was made up, and he searched and found exactly what I was looking for. I'm a very petite 27-year old who doesn't know much about car leasing but Eddy made it super easy again and acted like a friend. I brought my 2016 car and then he helped me switch everything over to my new 2019. He even helped put my EZ Pass in the best location to not hinder with the new eyesight I have in my car. Also, he put my registration sticker and went through and showed me every feature of the new car and changed a few of the features right then and there. We also made sure my phone connected with bluetooth. I'm really sad to see some bad reviews on here, they really are a nice bunch of guys there who are super helpful. I even called up Eddy with some questions and when I was having issues with my bluetooth a year and a half ago, I drove to smith cairns and eddy fixed it right away! Not to mention the prices are great, just give them a try and make your own opinions. It's clear that on these websites people only posted if they have great reviews or not so great. After looking all over for a quality used Subaru all over the New York City area I found several promising options at Smith-Cairns. This wasn't the first car I had purchased in the NYC area and I already knew the typical places most people look for vehicles in Queens and Brooklyn. I haven't had many good experiences with those dealerships in the past. Going a little outside the city proved to be helpful. Mike LaTerra was very helpful, and no pressure. He felt like a friend helping me find what I needed. I have a very crazy work schedule and he was able to work with that and do most of our communication through email once the ball was rolling. The only thing I would change about Smith-Cairns is their service hours. They are not conducive to people outside of the Yonkers area or anyone who works during the week. read more

Just the absolute worst service imaginable. Took my Subaru for a mandated air bag replacement. The total incompetent who did the work defaced the entire dashboard. The service writer (BENIE GEGAJ) lied about the area needed for access and claimed the damage was pre-existing. The receptionist who was initially contacted to make the appointment claimed photos are always taken of the repair area BEFORE the repair is made. The entire place just stinks. TO make matters worse, when Subaru USA was contacted to register a complaint, their "customer service rep." stated that they had NO interest in the matter and would not respond further. If I could give a zero, I would. Smith-Cairns is the king of finding work to do on your car that doesn't need to be done. Telling me time and time again that I needed a catalytic converter, first telling me it was just one part, then telling me i needed the converter and the whole exhaust system. Never able to give me a solid quote, prices ranged from $1500 -$2500. I just passed inspection for a $100 bracket that connects the muffler to the exhaust system. I always thought Smith-Cairns was slimy but now I feel vindicated. Also, I used to try to book oil changes there. Who needs an oil change 2 months from now? I'd like one this week, and I'd like to wait for it, not leave it for 2 days (or until they get to it). I can't speak for sales but service is the pits. read more

We went into this dealership twice. The first time we went it, we came to look at the Crosstrek. The first thing the sales guy told us was that it is a hard car to get. That it is in such demand he doubts he can sell us one because there's a long line. He tried to sell us another car in the lot. We were discouraged, and so we left. The second time we went we talked to another guy. By this time we had realized that the Crosstrek was too small for us, so we had decided that we wanted an Outback. We wanted to look at both new andcertified pre-owned, and a new sales man told us the same thing the other sales guy told us about the Crosstrek. He said, Outbacks are in such high demand that it's hard to acquire. It seemed like he didn't want to sell us a car. My fiance and I were really turned off by the service. And to think we were really in the market for a car. We ended up finding the perfect Outback in a dealership in Long Island. The sales people were nice, and positive and encouraging...unlike the sales people at Smith Cairns. I thought they were just like this to us, but after seeing all the negative review about this place on Yelp, well, I feel a little better. If you notice - all the positive ratings are for sale , NOT service. I bought a Forester in 2015 with extended warranty. Last year i kept loosing oil and the oil light kept coming up - I was told its normal to loose oil ( about 4-5 quarts) and all i need is a oil change ( even i wasnt due yet) . A mechanic checked my oil level when light came on and the dip-stick was bone dry, But i was told by Subaru service person its ok. We finally did some test and i was told it was ok - no issue. Basically i was told its in my head - everything is ok. Had Subaru check about 2-3 times till i was finally told that THERE IS AN ISSUE - i needed work done on engine, because i WAS loosing oil and it could cause damage if i kept driving. They had my car for 3 weeks ?!?!?!? Go figure. The worse part of dealing with service - they are rude, seem to be bothered when you call them ( had to reach out to Subaru headquarters - which really made them not happy). You call, leave messages and it takes forever for a call back : customer service is really not existed ( i am in customer service for 22 yrs and would have been fired if i ever talked or treaded a customer like that) My story is not over - Unfortunatly - my car is at service again, almost another 3 weeks now ( why does everything take 3 weeks?) I inquired about a Subaru Impreza over the Internet through this dealership. After speaking to Eddy multiple times, including once just an hour before arriving, you would think he would have the courtesy to let me know the car I was interested in was sold. They showed me a dirty car, that was "switched" from a different dealership with 100 miles on it already. Going through the motions, I was low balled on my trade in. As we sat at the desk he had his back to us, texting the entire time. Fast forward a month, I just left Liberty Subaru in Emerson, NJ with a 2017 WRX. If i could give zero stars I would. Brian, who was the service employee assigned to my "case" is the reason I will never return to this location. I truly hope I caught him on a bad day and this is not how he behaves regularly. He was rude, tried to not file paperwork that my insurance said he should be completing (since I did not come in and pay for anything yet), gave me attitude when I politely questioned anything that I did not understand and claimed that he could not file a claim to my insurance when there were close to two hours until closing. Then, once he did after much attitude, he called me back in about 15 mins to say he completed the call. He quoted one small task for being an hours worth of labor, maybe around $150, which I decided not to get done at this location. I then went to another Subaru location and they completed the small task and charged me $13.. they were polite and extremely respectful about it as well. Brian should not be working in customer service or needs some serious training on how to work with the public. read more

Eddy Pena was referred to me by a good friend. He deserve more than a 5 stars he is definitely and amazing 10 star topnotch salesman. I went to 4 other dealerships called 5 other dealerships. Eddy was the best. He did not try to low ball me with my trade in. He did not add these ridiculous hidden fees. Told me what my out the door price was. Got me every thing I want in my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport plus more than what I want. He answered all my text immediately. When I was confused about some thing he was patiently explained every thing to me. He helped me changed my plates and put in my bumper guard. He set up my phone to connect with my car, how to change the times and what each button and function in the car works. I am extremely happy with the service by Eddy. This is my 5th car and Eddy was the best. Unlike my other cars I did not drive away in my new car wondering if I was ripped off or not. I definitely recommend Eddy. About a week ago, I leased a 2017 Subaru Impreza sport from this dealership. This car is everything I could've asked for and more! After searching for about a month, my car salesman, Mike LaTerra, was able to acquire this vehicle in black, which was my top color choice. The interior is a black cloth with a red trim that looks very stylish. It is also loaded with technology and the sound system is incredible, which is great because I have a tendency to blast some EDM. The sedan itself has good horsepower along with great braking and overall safety. Like all Subarus it is AWD, making it great for any kind of road condition. The main takeaway from this review however is the excellent customer service. Mike LaTerra, is a very good salesman and an even better person. He is very approachable, friendly and always puts the customer first. I came back to the dealership this week because I noticed some scratches on the trunk of my vehicle, and Mike drove my car to an auto body shop to have the scratches buffed out within 45 minutes of my arrival to the dealership. Run or Drive away as fast as you can! The service has gone down hill! I have bought 2 cars from this dealership, never again. For some reason, unlike some other car manufactures, Subaru's Tire pressure gauge needs to be set with a special device. Other car companies do not. Just change the wheel and drive, it resets automatically so you do not have a light on your dashboard indicating a problem (!). Well, I took my car to the service dept. to have it set. I was told they couldn't do it that day and to come back. So I did. An older gentleman at the front desk again said no time, (even though I told them I was coming). Then told me it would cost $110.00 to set the new wheels!!! I change between summer and winter wheels since the car comes stock with summer only tires. You can not drive it in the winter. After arguing a bit the manager "I think" came by and said we can do it today for $55.00, just leave it. I said NO thank you. I looked on line and saw that many dealerships will do it at no charge. This place has a lack of customer service and will never see another dollar from me! read more

Really don't like this dealership. I own a 2004 WRX which I adore! Subaru issued a recall on the passenger side airbag and I needed the work completed by a Subaru dealer. These guys are the closest so I called them. All went really well initially. They ordered the necessary part based on my car's VIN and then called and emailed when the part came in. I called to arrange an appointment and that is when the problems began. I arranged to bring the car in on a Friday and asked if they would have any idea when the repair would be finished. I explained that because of work I needed to either pick the car up before 4pm or I would have to leave it and pick it up Saturday. Holly cow! It was like I was asking for the impossible. The first person I talked to repeated about 6 times that he would call me when the car was ready. I explained again and again that I wanted work out a plan in case the car wasn't ready when I had to get to work. He hung up on me. I called again, this time I got a woman who decided that I was cursing at her because as I was explaining that I couldn't arrange my work schedule to suit the dealership's wishes because I was working with a youngster with special needs in the afternoon and I couldn't F%$k over his family that way. I apologized for the misunderstanding and asked again about the possibility learning the approximate timeframe for the repair and the options for getting my car back. She asked me what I wanted her to do she couldn't make arrangements for a car pick up on a day that service department was closed. I then began to get really upset. This clerk put me on hold and the next person to pick up the phone was the service manager, Donna. I have to say Donna arranged to have my car left in the lot with the keys locked inside if necessary. It took her about 2 minutes to make this plan and explain it to me. She said they did it all the time. OK great but apparently her staff isn't aware of that. Donna and her two staff members each reminded me during our conversations that I haven't brought my car to them since 2010. Apparently this gives them the permission to treat me poorly. With service like this I don't plan on bringing my car there again! In the 4 days between when I made the appointment and the actual date of the appointment, I received no less than 4 yes 4 emails stating the time and date of the appointment and reminding me to please be on time. One email the day before would have been nice, two would have been ok but FOUR come on Smith-Cairns I made the appointment I don't need a daily reminder to show up on time. So I drop my car off bright and early on the day of the appointment and surprise surprise it is finished by 11 am. Great! I go over to pick the car up and decide to check out the new Subarus while I'm there. The salesman manages to insult my WRX hatchback by saying that it isn't nearly as stable as the WRX sedans. He also manages to insult my mom's 2008 Forester by saying unlike the new Foresters her's is "tinny". Seriously dude, that's not how to win friends and influence people. It's clear I'm a member of a Subaru family, I'm likely to make a Subaru the next car I purchase. My car is 10 years old so it is also not unlikely that I will be buying a new car in the foreseeable future how about you try getting on my good side instead of insulting the cars my family drives and telling me that it is a bad idea to buy a manual transmission. under filled oil by a quart. pretty unacceptable. measured this by the dip stick, and by pouring old oil into a old oil jug, saw it was 4 quarts , instead of 5 quarts as the manual calls. When we noticed the dip stick was not at the full line, we went into the dealership they mentioned they correct it at next oil fill. It takes 10 seconds to fill it at the correct level... read more

I am incredibly jealous that my finance leased a 2011 outback from Smith-Cairns. The car doesn't need any validation or praises because it speaks for itself. I would, however, like to commend their excellent customer service. Our salesperson (Mr. Steele) took great care of us from the moment we first walked in. I don't know about you, but I've never actually bought a car from a dealership. Horror stories of inventory pricing & haggling for a car I know very little about, is not a favorite activity of mine. Apprehensively, we walked into Subaru because who the heck knows what kind of salesman we'd meet, good or bad. Luckily, we hit the jackpot. Mr. Steele took us for a test drive. Afterwards, he shared information about that particular car, AWD & capabilities. Now..... I know this is a routine conversation to have, but to actually walk out of a dealership and understand what the salesperson told us about the car is a new experience. After about a month or so of our own research and test driving other cars, we decided that Subaru was worth the purchase. Fiancé's paperwork process was a cinch (basically same day quotes)! We started the paperwork process on Saturday morning & had the car in our possession by Monday. I can't tell you how thrilled he is about his new car & feeling like a strong relationship was built with the Subaru folks. The entire process did NOT feel gimmicky nor pressured to purchase. BEWARE !! I brought my 03 Forester to Smith Cairns Yonkers for service. A week ago The Forester developed a misfire , hesitation under acceleration , rough at idle and cruising. Dropped the car off at service they diagnosed it as a defective PCM (Power Control Module) $1200 est for repair. I told the rep (Brandon) not to do any work that I would come in pay the Diagnostic fee and be on my way. He then told me I needed 4 tires and that they had them in stock. The car isn't running right the last thing I need is 4 new tires. He then said there is a nail in my rear passenger tire and they could plug it. Once again "dont touch anything else" ......... When I got there Tire is flat no sign of a nail (I doubt if there ever was one). Car is running rough and Im out $125 diag fee. I head straight to Auto Zone the next day , FREE Diag tells me to do a basic tune up. I started with 4 plugs for less than $10. The hesitation is gone. Drove to Vermont avg 70 mph and 25 mpg for the weekend. Was interested in purchasing a Subaru Outback basic model . Went to Smith Cairn on Central Ave, Yonkers, and spoke to Ray . Ray was without doubt the worst car salesman I have ever encountered. We had purchased a Subaru 2007 outback there in 2007 and paid it off. The experience that we had with a salesman named Jack Casey prompted us to go back to Smith Cairns to purchase another Outback . Ray had no clue what the MSRP was for the Subaru 2014 Outback or at least pretended not to know. No clue if Subaru were changing the design for the Outback in 2015 or at least pretended not to know. When we called back to get things moving to purchase the 2014 Outback, Ray told my wife that the price that the MSRP agreed upon was no longer on the table and also he stated that he never called us back to follow up as himself and the dealership were making no money off of us so there was no incentive for him to sell us the Outback 2014. Can't believe that this guy was so unprofessional . We will go to Elmsford instead. Avoid this dealership unless you want to be patronized by an out of touch salesman who was more intent in selling us an extended warranty but not the actual car. Unbelieveable for sure.
